Woz

May 24!

Lighting and general build quality looks top notch. Code will be good eventually. Not sure about the flow and speed yet.

Don't know if Jon has already posted this link, but just seen this on pinside.

At first I thought the graphics on the LCD screen were far better than I'd originally seen, some nice touches with the way they've split the screen and mixed in original footage.

Still not keen on the graphics they've used for the multi-ball and ball lock though. Really reminds me of the dated graphics you see in bowling alleys. Perhaps this is what they were aiming at?

Nice to see it all coming together though far better than I thought it would be.

It's all relative. Compare the video footage to that on the latest Stern DMDs

JJP aren't going to be commissioning work to Hollywood movie companies to make the Special effects for a pinball machine, it's done by one man in his studio at the appropriate price point.

Hi Jon,

Not trying to knock your machine, and I know that videos can cost an absolute fortune. But given that the LCD screen is such a big feature of the game (compared to the existing DMDs) I just think this is one of the things that lets it down a bit as I was hoping to be blown away by it. I really like the crystal ball etc, the animation just doesn't seem to have had the same level of attention (although the video clips did look better than I expected) . At the end of the day if you and the other Woz buyers are happy then that's all that matters. I was impressed enough by the rest of the build to put my name down for their Hobbit table.

Cheers

John

You don't have to worry about upsetting me mate, you are entitled to your own opinion. I guess we will just have to see the finished product and see what it looks like. I didn't really have any expectations either way. My excitement is diluted somewhat by having so many updates along the way. I think the impact would have been much better if it was just unveiled as the finished product. That was never going to be able to happen with a 2 year wait though

Will be playing Woz 13th Jan. pinball heaven have 2 in a local pub for a bit of a launch party. Check out phils facebook page if you want to come.

now this i'm looking forward to, if i lived within 100 miles i'd be there too. make sure you give us a review, Mr Gary Bullwinkle. i know i'll be able to trust your judgement, as you're a normal pinhead like the rest of us, as i like all the games in your collection, and as you don't have any money or reputation invested in it being a success or a failure. i'm not saying Jonathan is biased, but ....... well, actually yes i am saying that, for understandable reasons he is desperate for it to be brilliant and to knock all the competition away.

i still reckon it looks beautiful, has more originality and toys (that crystal ball - wow) and better build quality than anything i've seen for ages, but am keen to see it played on a proper steep angle, and to see some shots made that aren't just up and back down, up and back down. plus i'm still hoping that Jack has taken on board some of the (very public) criticism of the game sounds, and done something about it. back when i was a waiting, expectant, deposit-paid future owner myself, i emailed Jack to suggest they dump all Glenda speech and make the whole thing chock full of Wicked Witch quotes, talk-back, humour, digs etc. no response unfortunately.

see if you can take some video mate?

Email from Phil

Hi, great news, we finally have 2 Wizard of Oz machines flying over from Jersey Jack Pinball ahead of the first European showing of this much talked about game at the London EAG Expo show 22-24th January (see us on stand 250).

We will be showing these 2 machines in a very informal, friendly gathering at our local pub The Cock & Bottle, Church Rd, Tarleton, PR4 6UP on Sunday 13th January 2013 from 1pm to 4pm.

Come have a game!

Hope your coming Jonathan, else were all going to get a go before ya.:scared:
Rus, I suggest dropping a phil an email to reserve a spec.

Only a three and a half hour drive from me (I think my wife would seriously consider divorce proceedings if I tried for this one.) Those who go, please let us know what you think. There's a lot riding on this highly anticipated game for JJP. I hope it knocks it out of the park!

Has she never enjoyed a nice mystery drive at the weekend with a pub lunch thrown in?

I'd planned on going to EAG on the 23rd so can't really justify another long trip a week earlier to see the same machine. If the London trip falls through for whatever reason ill definitely be there though.

The irony being the one person on here whos actually bought this machine is going to be the last one to get a go haha

Saw Phil this afternoon to pick up some parts and a JJP/PH flyer for WOZ. Playfield looks spectacular !

Appears pub can cater for a fair amount of people (sunday afternoon after all) but may be limiting numbers to avoid queuing issues.

Just spoken to my dad and he doesn't really want to make the 12hour round trip to EAG so we will both be there next Sunday :D

This is us. Say hello!
