Woz

Keith Johnson has already said this game will be the deepest in history, hence the time taken to code it and link each mode to individual RGB LEDs and the 50-100 videos and animations on the LCD.

Which is perhaps THE SINGLE most stupid thing ever. I have looked at the rules and they are basically LOTR PLUS TSPP. Now LOTR can be completed I know a number of people who have done it - my guess worldwide is no more than 100. TSPP can be completed, I know a handful of people in the world have completed it.

So in essence what Keith is doing is ENTIRELY USELESS. I want to like WoZ but I took one look at the screenshots of the rules and decided that the game would be a flop. People have really turned against deep rules, clever rules is one thing, but deep rules that only a few people will see - is absolutely pointless. He should have concentrated on making a solid basic game with the possibility of adding to it, instead he has focused on what he normally does - insanely deep rules with no thought for the average player.

He explained the board situation. Basically they have a few boards professionally made which are in the early machines and have worked without issue. Phil's machine for example. To get a few more machines out on location they had some more boards made locally and they have not been very reliable. It's the little LED boards under the PF btw, not the important ones that run the software.

I read that as "he had some boards made properly but they cost too much, he got some done cheaply, they broke too soon. He's struggling to find someone to make cheap boards that will work for a while".

That really scares me 2 years into the project

The average player isn't paying £6500 for WOZ. Die hard pinball fans who will own this game for years are. It's not 1994

I just think thats how they do business in the states. Its like the unwritten rule of mastering the art of slagging off your competitors without getting sued for it. Jack seems to be well versed in this.

Really want to play woz, and i really feel for those that have waited so long. I hope that none of the same BS happens with predator (although i am prepared for a long wait).

Yet Gary Stern hasn't slagged off JJP once, he in fact is documented as wishing him luck at the start of his venture.

'You read it as' haha.

I've read every post you have put in this thread from day one as negative for some reason. $1000 per board set isn't exactly peanuts

He also threatened any vendor that worked for JJP that he would pull his contracts with them. Positively gentleman like

Only because they won't be able to sell them I guess, you need to stop falling for the hype and look at reality. Jack has been economical with the truth on a number of occasions, he has started a pre-order AND TAKEN PAYMENT for another game that doesn't exist. Just because he's been in the business for years does not preclude him from failing. If he hadn't promised so much he wouldn't have under delivered but he did and he has. Personally, I don't think I will buy a JJP game - having met him, I don't like him or his attitude.

None of the above means I want him to fail or am against him in any way but I am perhaps seeing things more clearly. I haven't judged the game at all, it's **** as it is but that doesn't mean it wont be good. I try to explain it to people that it's like playing a game with a broken DMD - it's utterly pointless because you are just batting the ball around. U

ntil the game is delivered, those who have seen it/played it can only judge the layout and build quality. I personally wasn't blown away by it but it was ok and I think the hype on build quality had me expecting more, bendy legs, chipped cabinet and loose lockdown bar didn't fill me with enthusiasm though.

I didn't say he was a gentleman, I just said he hasn't bitched in public therefore he's been professional. I guess any businessman would do the same with regards to contracts, it's called protecting your interests.

And there's the crux of it. No one knows yet what the game is going to be like.

People aren't being forced to hand over money for the hobbit, they can wait til its out if they like.

Likewise, Metallica LE just sold out on the strength of a picture. No one knows the rules, how it plays, how it sounds. Yet if you want one you have to buy it within 24hours of it being announced

Indeed and the more people who understand that, the better

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if people want the LE then they DO have to hand over money?

Yes the LE sold out based on it looking amazing and probably the fact Lyman is on rules I don't think anyone has to pay for it up front (maybe a securing despoit with distributor?) and you know that when they say it will ship on X Date, it will likely be close. That being said it may well be crap!

Paying money up front or otherwise you still have to hand over cash before you get to play it?

JJP LEs are the same game however. No missing toys, no missing rules, no missing LEDs.

Customer loyalty certainly deserves a good-will gesture....... no matter how small.

First production game to be delivered today apparently! I hope so as I guessed today in the 'first game delivered' competition on the Woz forum :D

Yes saw six in the pin news picture so at least that's 6 happy people only a few thou to go!

Is there an ETA on software completion? I'm hoping that by the time UK games ship there may be a decent level of code so that the game can be assessed for what it is rather than what it might be as the code in the game so far isn't much.

Well my guess was yesterday, the next guess is in 8 days time. There was a game delivered to Seattle pinball museum yesterday but apparently that doesn't count, the first customers game is getting delivered today which means I lose as Its a few hours over my guess!?

Swizz!

I think they're telling you porkies Jonathan. This vid was published by JJP yesterday and I'm presuming that trailer does not just contain a single pin :-)

Hi Jon,

given you follow all things WOZ have the shipped games actually got finished code in them? Tried looking at the the stuff on Pinside and lost the will to live after page 2. Do you know what changes have been made? I'm assuming that all the switches, multiball etc now work fully. Any other major differences between the "real" machines and the ones doing the rounds in the UK?

How far down the shipping list are you? Got to be itching to get your hands on it now. :thumb:

Is this an initial slow period of building and checking or are they now in full production mode?

Jonathan? i don't understand the answer, is the game coded and full of rules or not? like you, i'm desperate for this to be a great game. so far (from playing it in London in March and in Farnborough in April) it looks like ******** though, if i'm honest - the rules are *still* incomplete, and things keep breaking on it, like the shooter spring for example. is there a skill shot in it now? is there anything that happens after breaking through the castle gate on top left pf?

this video looks to me like the same as all the other videos. why is there no commentary or captions if it is supposed to show something off? how come the sound completely stops when something is being shunted around on the pf?

i blame the code guy for the debacle that WOZ has become. he had so much time to make it perfect when the parts were all ready, what has he been doing? sitting at home ****ing?

It wasn't an answer, it was just a video?

It's just some guy playing his machine, why would there be captions?

there were at least 3 questions directly addressed to you in the post above yours

nobody is asking you to represent the game or to explain away things or to make excuses or to take credit or blame for it, we all just know that you have one coming and are enthousiastic about it, as we all would be in your shoes.
