Who Fancies a New MM?

err. Sweden's in the EU so they will still charge VAT. If you are a VAT rated company in the UK then you don't pay. Sadly normal people have to pay the Swedish VAT.

Now, Norway is outside the EU so no VAT there but you pay import duty unless you can get a pinball machine through customs stuck up your jumper.....

Doh! Oh yeah, I'm thinking of customs charges haha

I 'think' in dollars when I'm buying anything from the US, and a $1000 deposit should equate to £625. At a £1000 that is $1600. The total cost to US buyers is $6500 - about £4000 at today's rate. Instead we are paying £6500 - nearly $10,400! I know there is shipping and vat and import duty etc. but I can't justify over $10,000 just for the buzz of opening a cardboard box. I'll freshen mine up with some new bits and save my money for the 'Walking Dead' pin.;)

Steve, just to follow up and correct a typo and clarify a few points. The USA price is $8000 not $6500. That's £5k. USA buyers pay local tax too it's just never mentioned. Probably because it's only 5% I think! So add our 20% vat and we're at £6k without any freight....

I asked for £1k deposit for the reason stated on my email to customers on Monday. Out of the total we receive we pay 20% vat. Out of £1k that's £166.67 so leaving us £833.33. The $1000 PPS deposit was £625 leaving £208.33. I then bought $150k towards the balance on a currency "forward" to ensure we all knew what price we were paying in sterling. (I already had another currency forward in place for the balance). Currency forwards required a minimum 5% deposit.....

The PPS warranty is irrelevant here because my Pinball Heaven warranty is 12 months,

Hopefully that clears up a few points!

I know how frustrating it is seeing the dollar price as x and the UK price as y.... Everytime I sell a new pin you can see the person making the most on the transaction is George Osbourne!!!

I think I have two games spare (LE) at this time...

Sorry Phil, I never for one minute wanted to suggest you were setting the price. I know that PH prices are very competitive and I know the increase is down to import duties, vat etc.

I felt I could justify the cost when it was a limited run of 1000 machines, but when they announced more I stepped back.

Welcome to the forum by the way, and don't be a stranger as we all would welcome your input!

Thanks. I don't look very often at forums but I saw this thread and wanted to make sure everyone knew where I was coming from...

No worries Steve, things like that don't bother me...we all have second thoughts about things, especially when the original plan changes!

I wired PPS the deposit before I even had it from my customers. There will be no Australian incident here!

Yeh,

Nice to see you here Phil :) Welcome :)

woah, it's the Philster from Pheaven!

don't worry dude, every single person in the pinhead community trusts you as you've shown time and again what a good guy you are, always sponsoring events and loaning new pins for free as well as providing great service on your PH website. you are good people and i know that if i had the cash, i would happily trust you to handle my US import of a new pin. maybe one day they will charge us the same as they charge the Yanks, but for now the bastards still wanna rinse us

So ....the one big board is basically the playfield lamp board, then there are 3 seperate smaller driver boards for the solenoids , and the CPU in the backbox ? How I see it.

I'm guessing with modern tech the vibration isn't gonna be an issue. You would like to think if there were any doubts they wouldn't be doing it that way.

Loads of electronic survive in much harsher environments than pinball machines.

I guess time will tell.

Way too much negativity towards this release!
Nearly 20 years have passed since the original. It makes perfect sense to update the technology for the remake, surely?

Totally agree with this. It will be fine, I'm sure. They are charging a lot of money for this game. I don't believe they will produce something that doesn't last more than 5 minutes. That would be nothing but trouble for them. They know what they are doing. They are sitting on a potential goldmine with possible additional re-makes of other games in the future. Our American friends are going nuts for these things.
They will not mess it up. The finished article with be awesome.

What happens if an led blows?

Technically they should last much longer than incandescents, maybe by a factor of 10-50x. But you'll have to get your soldering iron out for replacement.

I guess it's much more faff, much less often.

I'm guessing there less wire that way?

A lot less wire (reduces cost), less weight (reduces cost of shipping), less time to put together (reduces costs of overheads), very easy to produce automated surface mount pcb for a fraction of the cost.... possibly less to go wrong too thanks to a lack of wires...

You have to wonder though, why hasn't Stern done this yet? Old Garry Stern is always looking for ways to maximise profit...

Easy, American jobs for the workforce. They are still very patriotic over there and Stern don't want to be seen to be laying everyone off...
