Who Fancies a New MM?

No interest here. Old games. 'Look to the future' to quote another old game.

Think i agree there. I am a huge MM fan, and even i'm backing out buying it for these reasons:

Already committed to Predator (must forge ahead with the new)
ColorDMD's don't work in the new ones. (with no support or deal between PPS and colordmd right now)
Cant do another Weetabix diet.
They're making boatloads of them now anyway so i can get one at some point down the line.
Not a fan of gold trim on pins, so waiting for an SE suits me fine.

You seen skitB's post today on pinside Russ?

I did. Not sure what to make of his words, but its a huge f*ckup either way you look at it. The UV layer not showing up when people shone their UV lights on it, and the subsequent excuse as to why that was the case doesn't fill me with a huge amount of confidence.

Kevin mentioned losing someone close to him recently so maybe that was the case all along? If it were me, I would probably drop everything too in that kind of scenario.

I have played about the same number of games on Metallica and MM and I prefer Metallica - bit of a shock as always preferred B/W games. But all the love for MM makes me think I must be missing out and not 'getting ' MM.

PPS website now states - available end of 2014.

What happened to Q2 they reckoned only 3 days ago?

Isn't the 2014 date for the SE versions? At least that's what seems to be suggested by Phils post on Facebook.

We are sold out of our allocation of Medieval Madness LE. Please email us to be on a reserve list, or of course you can have the standard at the end of 2014...

'Starting' to ship in Q2. Woz production is a good barometer of how long it's going to take all 1000 games to be made

As much as this remake sounds exciting, from an electronics point of view I have to make a horrid groan noise.

1) PCB's under the playfield really? So in the world of lead-free solder where solder joints are less reliable already, lets add in a huge concentration of vibration to really put those joints under stress.
2) A new CPU board? Who wants that? It would be so much nicer if they just replicated the WPC95 boardset so that people can continue to use their exising parts and repair chains and WPC95 boards can be easily swapped in/out as required.
3) From the limited pictures I can see, the are using small pitch smt IC's and maybe even some BGA, so this limits or removes in some cases the ability of collectors to repair their own games
4) Does it use custom IC's? Can we buy spares?
5) Who can repair these boards after the "huge" 90 day warranty (wow now that's confidence in your product!)?

Currently I have in stock about every single part I could need to fix any electronic problem on any electronic pinball machine from any system. Early Williams and Bally games are 30+ years old and I can still get any parts I need to fix them.

In 30 years time where are you going to get parts to fix your custom cpu board on your £7000 MM remake machine? Who will be able to fix them?

Don't care about any of the above? Well pony up your £7k and enjoy then, I will be on my way :)

Whatever you think about the MM remake I think we can all agree that right now is a fantastic time to be in the hobby. Another company making games is good news if you ask me. Personally, I think its pretty cool that a classic is being remade. Why not? Stern occasionally do re-runs of their games. I don't see this as a very different scenario. Exciting times. I really hope TBL is real too.

I know they will sell anyway but I think the price is too high. I would love an MM and if it had been 4.5k I probably would have caved and bought my first BNIB but 6.5?

Yup, considering most of the ground work is already down then it ain't cheap, no doubt someone somewhere is making the most of the titles reputation, on the flip side as was stated in the previous post, it's good for pinball and even better, there is a new manufacturer out there that will use the BW design spec for all their future machines, I just love that feel, it's like the difference between feeling jugs with or without gloves on

err. Sweden's in the EU so they will still charge VAT. If you are a VAT rated company in the UK then you don't pay. Sadly normal people have to pay the Swedish VAT.

Now, Norway is outside the EU so no VAT there but you pay import duty unless you can get a pinball machine through customs stuck up your jumper.....

I got tied up in the initial MM frenzy and put my name down within the first hour. As the weekend went on I started to wonder if this was a good idea, especially when it was announced that more production runs were planned after the 1000 'LE' units, due to high demand.

By Sunday night I had decided to pull out. I've got a nice MM and it was only the lure of the NIB that drew me in the first place. I 'think' in dollars when I'm buying anything from the US, and a $1000 deposit should equate to £625. At a £1000 that is $1600. The total cost to US buyers is $6500 - about £4000 at today's rate. Instead we are paying £6500 - nearly $10,400! I know there is shipping and vat and import duty etc. but I can't justify over $10,000 just for the buzz of opening a cardboard box. I'll freshen mine up with some new bits and save my money for the 'Walking Dead' pin.;)

Both surface mount and ball grid array components can be replaced just like any other. Its just another technique to learn (and buy equipment for)

I pulled out of the new MM too. Got all excited, then realised I need my head looking at for buying one. If it were original spec, then maybe, but not with the spec they are planning. Also, with Predator being bought, another new pin might get me in trouble.

Oh and Steve, you just know you're obsessed when you think about buying a NIB machine of one that you already own...LOL.

Oh there's no doubt about that Russ, pinball has taken over my life. If I'm not playing one, I'm fixing one or working all hours to pay for another one!

I thought it was $7995 for US buyers? Even so I do agree its a bit of a bummer we have to pay extra.

I've paid my deposit but I'm not totally committed on this, would be nice to know what kind of back up service you will get for pcb repairs.

Things might be a bit clearer closer to shipping. Phil will refund deposits at any time ( that's a deal PPS isn't giving, orders with them only have until Williams approval.)

Alot of new info here - from PPS

Stern cannot re-run the older games because the license's have run out, that and they would have to go back to the old boardset. that's why they run LotR LE with the whitestar stuff.
Stan.

True.
I emailed Stern ages ago re Iron Man re-run and they actually replied to say they no longer had license. And could they even get it again now that 2 more movies are out? Almost less IM's produced than MM LE! ( 1050 V 1000 ).

They're making standards to meet demands so yes but you will have wait longer than the LEs.

Loving that PPS Q&A on pin side. Looks like they're listening to the pinball community on this. This is great news, the power that forums are starting to have over manufacturers is awesome.

I'm not worried about pcb backup any more, the demand for this machine will mean where there's a technical problem, there will be solutions.
