Stern Ghostbusters

If you are a good player you can end up with Vibration White Finger.
I don't like shaker motors in the slightest. The last thing i want to come home to after a full days work with vibrating motors and compressors is a pinball machine that shakes.

Those slings just don't do it for me. Definitely prefer the kicker slings. Love it when they propel the ball from sling to sling. Just didn't do that in the video

Those slings are going to have to behave a lot better than that in real play or the game could become a joke.

I wasn't expecting the kicker slings to behave like that either. I take it you have both and the magnetic ones come on as a feature.. Don't think I'd like them on all the time..

No there are no normal slingshots, magnets only, hopefully they can do something better with the code or it could be a fun killer as it already looks to be a drain monster.

Trying not to get too concerned with that early video of the slings. Time will tell, I'm sure they'll sort it.

If I saw a video of the ecto goggles soon and it would looked awesome, that would help a lot.

It's difficult to not get concerned. They say that this is very early code for the magnetic slings, but Trudeau claims their design was completed years ago for another game that didn't go to production, and LEs ship in early May ... they wouldn't have made the decision to go with magnetic without doing a bunch of work on them. That they show them in this state makes me think this is broadly illustrative of how they will work ... if it was nothing like their intention they wouldn't show it.

Frankly, it looks bloody awful ... and this is coming from someone who really wishes that designers would take a leap in the dark and eliminate slingshots in some games, and do something innovative.

Or just buy a pro model instead
yep, i think this will help sales of the pro quite a bit. they look like a fun toy to sometimes play with, but if they continually ****ed with your ball, it would be like playing pinball continuously left-over-right-handed (like in one mode of TSPP) using banana flippers on an Orbitor1 playfield, the game would become a joke - everyone would want one go on it, then walk away to something they had a chance of possibly having some control over. if there was random magnet activity in pinball, it would turn immediately into a game of chance

Balls!! That looks pants :(
Was probably hoping for a bit much but from hearing about magnets on the slings I kinda had the notion that maybe the ball would hold still , like a ghost trapped in a stream and maybe then you had to hit the ball or cross them from one to another.. Probably hoping for too much but just making the ball do random crap is pointless... If the googles are like RFM and work as an active target that's gonna be great if it's just a display that's gonna blow , and the pro is in my albeit early and unfounded and untested view the one to go for .
Doesn't matter as it will all be forgetton about when the one after the next stern is announced , or the next one , or the next and so on and so :)

I have a pro coming shortly, very excited for this, but was also interested tech wise to see how this new Magna sling feature could work.

I expected them to show a normal reliable sling operation first with the magnet then other mode possibilities. If it's just randomness all the time, then that makes no sense to me. I would love to see code innovation here. More videos needed stern

Next one is supposedly Aerosmith with the colour lcd screen at last.

Stern clearly following the "if it aint broke...." approach to themes....

When it comes to slings however, **** knows what they we're thinking!

I wonder if premium owners can retro fit standard slings? Seriously, did no one at stern watch that video and go "Oh. Those look pants. Back to drawing board. Delete video before premium and LE buyers see it and sales plummet". I guess not. Think I'll continue my hunt for a Metallica instead....

I wouldn't be surprised if stern release upgrades for recent titles to use an lcd once they produce games with them. It would make sense that the graphics work can be rendered out at different formats.

Almost no chance I'd say. The game will be coded for magnetic slings, and standard Pro code wouldn't work because the layout and features are different. Also, I'd assume they have different node boards driving them.

Crap as they look, as crap as I expect they will ultimately be, Stern's a big enough company now that there would be too much egg on too many faces for them to scrap the magnetic slings and go with conventional ones. I suspect many at the company would rather a failure than a loss of face from back tracking.

I would be extremely surprised. Stern are only interested in margins that run into 4 figures, their system for future games won't work with existing pre-Spike stuff full stop, and from what some people have posted, Spike needs additional revisions to drive a colour LCD of any decent resolution.

I'm sure future vault editions may have colour LCDs ... but retrofit upgrades for currently produced or old titles? Highly unlikely.

I said recent tiles ie post spike. Sterns model is different to old days now as they embrace the collector market more and more. Why else would they make mods themselves and promote 3rd party mods for their games like mezel. Stern are interested like most of us business owners in making money wherever it is found. The days of 'stern only care about a game before it leaves the factory and operators were over long ago'

Is the topper still that thing that was posted a while ago that looked naff or have they updated it ?
Might just get myself one of these of ebay and add some lighting.
Its 24" tall and think it would work well.

All new Sterns won't come with toppers. But you will be able to buy from the Stern shop as a extra.

I think that is a smart move. I don't personally like toppers so at least you get a choice if you want one or not.

But is this still it or was this just a mock up as I dont like this one bit.

Nice video, machine looks like a lot of fun. I never noticed before but are there no inlane/outlane inserts for lane change which has been a staple of most stern machines for a while? I like the balls stuck in the shooter lane feature, modeled after Big buck hunter I would guess :p.
