New members - say hello right here : )

Hi, new today.

I've just picked up my first pinball machine and have roughly 3769 questions...

I'm competent with a soldering iron and a digimeter so I'm guessing to be half way there!

Look forward to hounding you all in the Tech Question section.

P.S I bought a Bally Spy Hunter game. It mostly works!

Cheers,

Aaron.

Hello Aaron and welcome to the group.
Ask as many questions as you want, you have done the right thing by grouping them together in your thread and people will answer them. It is fixable, one way or another and should be up and fully playing before long. ;)

Spy Hunter - one of the first Pins I ever played in about 1984? It's weird - the off-set flippers & the way it sends the ball down the left drain!

Welcome Aaron, where about are you located?
Ill answer my own question having realised its in your info. Chester
Lots of pin heads around here mate if you fancy playing a few games.

Hello everybody Damo here just recently decided that I will be getting my first pinball in the very near future played for years and a recent trip to a friends has convinced me I need my own!

Damo666, Welcome to the madness and great choice for a first pin. It will keep you coming back for more hurt and pain , its a brutal machine. But also one of the classics.

HI All

Im Jim From Worcester, just picked up a Bally Saturn 2, 3 days ago turned it on, 90% working except the coin door ( no locks and no coin mech ) & a fair few lamps inop but other then that everything else works sweet.

Been a long time wanting a Proper pin, playing it on the tablet just aint quite right in my eyes.... and i finally have one!!!!

Nice - don't see those around much. Its a conversion of the more commonly seen Spy Hunter, a game I like a lot.

Hi GrizZ, this is where you are wrong..... and so was I ....it is based on a 1978 Dolly Parton Cab serial no EDP 4401, we took the side cover off and found the white pink and blue decals under it.....

unfortunately some donkey has painted badly the edges in black and wrecked it. chrome legs ( sure SH were black ) and the back board does not match the glass, no tilt, game over lamps or even the holes or loom....Strange....and the lcd's are all out of alignment and dont match the glass properly. It was great for the first 3 days..... lol

As far as i'm aware they did use the playfield parts etc off the spyhunter game and just swap them them over apart from the plastic top parts and the bumper, thats why most spyhunters have yellow targets and mine has red.... i think my play field is a 100% replacement, as couldnt swap from dolly to saturn easily and i also found i have no chips in u1 - u6 but an expansion board at the top pluging into the top of the board

the cab has original dolly decals and the stapled manufacturers ticket by the coin tray with serial 1501 on it...

I'm not saying i'm right, just what i have read... and thats not lot as i cant find anything on the Saturn 2 game...

Ahhh OK , I was thinking it was a complete machine just with a retheming of Spy Hunter . So it actually came as a conversion kit originally... new playfield and plastics, translite, side art ?? which you drop into a cab.

EDIT ...just found this which explains it all :)

Nice find !!! i didnt see that 1.....

the sides are made of metal with the Saturn 2 graphics on it that just clip on... which is a great idea really,

Thanks dude

Yep, remember there wasn't any clear coating back then so a game with a trashed playfield (down to the whitewood underneath the playfield graphics) back then was a good candidate for a conversion - new pf, new roms (possibly the odd pcb), new bg and tacked on cabinet sides. It probably equated to half the cost of a new game at the time.
