Ebay Auctions 2014

If you're prepared to wait I've had great success ordering stuff from China via eBay. You get the buyer protection stuff and a system you're familiar with. For example, I just ordered a self-assembly ESR Tester Kit for £8.99 delivered. It'll be here in about 3 weeks, maybe 1 week, maybe 4. And as it's well under £15 including postage no import duty or Royal Mail rip off fees. Shame they don't do more pinball spares out of Hong Kong...

This device can automatically test resistors, diodes, capacitors (with ESR value), transistors, thyristors, etc.

I find ebay great for little items..

Need some 1k resistors... 99p spent and 100 turn up.. etc.

In 100% seriousness, I would spend the extra 50p and buy them from CPC / Farnell / Rapid / RS to make sure you are getting a reputable brand. There is nothing more of a pain in the ass than cheap resistors failing with hairline cracks in PSU's and monitors

I was about to say - i just ordered 50 x 1k for 70p from CPC (Which is finally shipped after 3 days due to the flood in their warehouse!)...

Along with a load of other stuff... Free shipping for over a fiver, which is easily attained!! :D

I did baulk at the cost of turned DIL18 sockets now though!!! i remember when they were expensive at 24p each.. now 78p!!!

I did a contract in a UK resistor factory. The chinese crap can't be any worse, it's 19th century tech at best.

Thanks for the tip @Paul regarding free shipping on orders over £5 at CPC. Half a dozen bits and bobs easily comes to that. I often use Mouser UK but you need to break £50 for free shipping. Not that that ain't easy too ;)

Jesus, that's some serious wear on the scoops and around the inserts.

I'm a relative n00b when it comes to this stuff but even i'd spot that a mile off and be heading the opposite way. No chance i'd pay £1.5k for that.

That Whirlwind is an odd one. On first sight it looks good and you realise the cabinet has been heavily customised, which might not be to everyone's taste, but must have taken a reasonable amount of effort. It looks well done enough: powder coated legs, side rails, lockdown bar, shooter, coin door, hinges, and extra trim on the cabinet and backbox. But although it's not a total disaster the playfield is like it's been lifted from another less cared-for game: worn to the wood around the spinners, ramp drops and the vuk holes need some serious Cliffy love. It's dirty, the flippers are wonky and something about the compass inserts looks wrong.

"The machine is all working but the right ramp isn't raising" - not "all working" then!

i also snipe in the last 10 seconds. anyone who doesn't like this is missing the point (for buyers) - if you want it, you do what is necessary and legal and within your means to buy it. god i hate "win" in this situation.

ebay is missing a trick here, surely it would be in their best interest (and the seller's) to extend an auction by 30 seconds after the last bid. real auctions don't stop when the time runs out if there are two people bidding, the price just climbs until one gives up.

Also - scumbag seller alert! I don't need to tell you to stare clear when it is several hundred overpriced, but that is one of the worst pin traders on ebay

Ought to get in his tardis and come back in the year 3000, price will be about right by then

Did you buy that TZ off the Devon guy that everyone slags off?
How did that go?
Nope he bought if from me...It was advertised on here and Jammaplus but had nothing but time wasters regarding that.
I understand peoples opinion on the TOM pin a while back but I found him to be a really nice bloke with really good quality machines. So much so I was only happy enough to return home with his previously mentioned Avatar.

I know people may have different opinions of various sellers (Sarah, Happyslapper, Rockypins, Blackpool mob!) but I can only comment on MY experiences not other peoples stories.

Fair enough, I try to keep an open mind.

I was hoping you had a positive experience as he does seem to have a high turnover of quality machines. And the more info on a seller the better!
