Dungeons & Dragons by Stern

Just had couple hours at the EAG

Happily surprised how good D&D is, shots really well with some decent shots and seems like code is going to be good

I only played the pro as the premium was embarrassing and shouldn’t have been on the floor on code that does lift the dragons head in a ball search

I didn’t see one person get to play a full game on in 4 hours 🤣

What was the art like? It’s been so dark when I have seen any pictures of it, so hopefully it’s better in the flesh?

Yep, happened to me too.

Code the damn ball search already, Stern… Hop to it!

My review of the pin with photos from the EAG is on the EAG thread (https://www.pinballinfo.com/communi...xt-week-anyone-going.60891/page-2#post-586953).

Anyone pre-ordered yet? Feels like there is so much positivity surrounding this game I'm swept up in the excitement.

I always told myself I'd never do NIB, but I have some money and space aside for my next game 👀

I’m very tempted but the Pro’s won’t reach the UK until March I’ve been told so not a rush for me to order just yet.

Very good to know, thanks for that.

I'm building an extension for my pin room in my house which should be complete in April. I think if no other game from my 'most wanted' list happens to come up for sale between now and then and it continues to be well received, I think I may have to.

I'm actually really tempted but my rule is that I have to play before buying.

I am a little concerned that I don't know D&D but we'll see if knowing role play games is that important.

I doubt you need to know D&D. The general ideas of quests, characters who level up, dungeon delving, and fighting monsters/dragons have seeped well into the wider culture by now.

If you’re familiar with any RPG-esque video games, such as Baldur’s Gate 3 or World of Warcraft, you’re more than ready to go. Minecraft is also heavily D&D inspired if you have kids who play.

Failing that, and if you feel you’re totally in a cultural ghetto, you could try the recent D&D film ‘Honor Among Thieves’. Silly, but a good laugh, and it contains an owlbear.

I completely understand the theme and I’ve played D&D precisely twice ever. We have a friend who is really into DMing (designing and running regular D&D meet-ups) and he keeps trying to get us to join one of his groups. Otherwise, the only RPG I’ve played is Fiasco, which has no resemblance to D&D whatsoever, and is more like smutty improv crime comedy (or, at least, it was when I played).

I play a lot of video games, and love traditional RPG/JRPGs. Matt Mercer is actually a really big pull for me alone, I'm a fan of a lot of his work (Leon Kennedy in the new RE4 remake, Vincent in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth to name a few)

I hadn't experienced any D&D before, but I've started watching critical role after the reveal and have been enjoying it.

I've fully gone down the rabbit hole. I realise through this I consume far too much pinball related media... I've watched almost every gameplay reveal with crappy cam footage, every interview, I refresh this forum probably 4-5 times an hour, even through work days. I thought about creating a thread to see if others are the same as I but I'm too scared of the answer!

Thanks Vee . . . I am most definitely in the cultural ghetto 😂😂

But I'm assuming I don't need an encyclopedic knowledge of Warcraft to direct a wizard through a map so I'm definitely open to the idea.

Getting Uncanny X-Men next week so that might muddy the waters further but we'll see.

I'm certainly open minded about D&D

You won't need any knowledge, the dungeon will be like maze on the old school computers. Hit a target rather than the arrow keys.

There be some "in jokes" I'm assuming, like the cube which for me doesn't mean anything to me, but that won't affect anything

If you ever read the books when you where a kid where you choose you options by flicking to the page, that about the sum of d and D and the dice game yahtzee

Secret of Mana on the SNES got me into RPG’s. Got a number or rare import games too that I saved up my hard earned cash for when I was a teenager. However I still buy the occasional rpg but it’s just not the same. You really need huge amounts of time to play these games. One of the reasons why I like pinball now.

Still trying to complete the full set of green spine first editions. Almost as pricey as pinball!
I think i had the second editions (Orange). Long gone though... i should look to pick myself up another set, though if you pick the originals they are a little on the expensive side!!

For those that

What’s left of my FF books bought back in the day , including my 1982 Warlock bought in the little bookshop near my parents house. I had lots more but think a lot got lent out , lost or swapped for other stuff in the 80s.

I should read this forums content more often ;)
Yes, the premium at EAG had an issue with the dragon head blocking balls then were then not released during a ball search.
BUT, it was a nice looking machine, interesting layout with some nice shots. For what I like, it was more attractive than John Wicks which was next to it.
Pro and premium look very close. The actual game play will be very similar. I can live without a dragon complicating my ball return.

Takes me back, I brought Seiken Densetsu 2 back from my trip to Japan along with a Japanese Super Famicom to play it on (in Japanese!)

It will be interesting to see how much they go into D&D character progression making a real difference to the game, such as more HP = longer ball save, or if it's just for mode scoring and Insider Connected.

Enjoyed playing D&D at EAG today. Rules very early and do need some tweaking on MB but shot layout with upper flipper very good.

Had a good game at the end but had to leave for train before I could enter score at end of game and frustratingly didn't seem to have been recorded on IC

I am guessing it won’t be connected until they sort the scoring balancing and the code is a bit further along.

I don’t think I would be in the market for a NIB even though I had many happy weekends spent playing D&D before girls and alcohol became more important. I suspect there could be some bargains to be had on this in a couple of years time….

Define a ‘bargain’ in this hobby 😂

That’s weird and a shame then. In Neil’s video Dwight did say the scoring was all out of whack and the scoring unbalanced.

Did you find that?
I’ve seen gameplay videos where people seem to be scoring in huge chunks, 200m+ at a time without seemingly hitting any big super or suchlike, and a four player game where three of them broke 2 billion. I initially thought they’d just rebased the scoring away from the standard Stern “billion is great” of late and more towards the mid 90s B/W “billion is okay”, but given Dwight’s comments perhaps it is just broken for now.
