The eBay Auctions / Facebook / Gumtree / Shpock 2024 thread

Considering bidding on this but felt there was going to be more than meets the eye having read the description and studied the pics... having said that it's a relatively cheap price with half an hour to go... and my finger is hovering near the bid button. I'm not too worried about cosmetic defects at the right price.

decent price to whever got it at £1200

Cyclone always been a hard sell in UK. Americans love it though
Games with poor themes will really struggle in a market downturn

Pretty sure thats where the lock for the backglass is supposed to be, looks like its been wrenched out in the past.

That's correct, though Williams' placement of the backbox lock was heading towards the 'new' location of a metal plate above the centre of the backglass/translite, which came in with Whirlwind. Though anyone with the right size tamper-resistant Tx screwdriver/bit could remove it. Unless, like the one at work, one of the screws was done up too tight, and simply rotated the T-nut in the wooden batten at the top of the glass.

The older location used a large plate on the back of the lock, with an L-shaped slot in it. Moving the key/plate had a linkage rod placed in the slot move the locking pin above the glass. The new handier location saved on all that.

If you think the TZ price is bad (which it is) wait till you see the Indiana Jones the seller has up. He even claims it has the manufacturers warranty...........some warranty after 30 odd years !
The warranty mention is the new AI based description crap, just means seller didn't bother to check what it has put.

Capt fantastic is a good survivor too

There are other high production games quite rare in the UK though such as Bobby orr and evel knieval

The yellow flippers on it look like Williams ones, I'm not sure about the upper flipper.

Even the uncensored 'no star' backglass mentioned (and pictured) isn't justification for that price.

OMG! I wish people would stop using AI to write descriptions. Honestly, writing an advert is not that hard. Just include important details. What is it? Was it professionally serviced? Are there faults?

AIs just write a load of flowery waffle. "Experience the excitement of playing pinball with this X pinball machine. This thrilling pinball machine by world-class pinball manufacturers, Williams, is a stunning collector's piece that will excitingly grace your home for years to come." I mean, f**k it, what did I learn from that?

Could be just my cynical nature but anything written with AI on ebay suggests that the seller is probably a scammer with no knowledge of what they are pretending to sell. Likewise sellers that don't answer the particular question you may ask. Puts me right off the machine. One recent seller said in his ad that the ball sometimes gets stuck and when I asked where, the reply was it just gets stuck....

Having just listed a board game on eBay, it now asks you explicitly if you want AI to write your description

Speaking as the person who received an AI-written application from a prospective babysitter, charitably, it could just be someone who isn't confident with their writing ability. Not realising that nothing they write could be worse!

Yes it’s eBay offering to populate the description with its ai generated text. What a stupid feature.
@Paul site suggestion. AI pinball info post replies?

"Without a doubt the best feature to be added to eBay in the last 100 years, the AI description feature makes the buying and selling of pinball machines online so much easier and efficient"

Next they'll add an AI image generator to save you having to take pictures of the item you're selling 😆

From some of the prices on there, seems some AI pricing suggestions too. I never thought I would get to an age where technology stopped being exciting to me, but if AI really is the future, I'm out.

This AI content...if you haven't earned it, learned it or made it, it has no real value surely?

It is possible, I had contemplated it. Then thought the risk of it coming out with a "fix" that sets their machine and then their house on fire... well.. that wouldnt sit well on my conscience...

Question to AI....should I buy another pinball machine?

Reply......
That sounds exciting! Do you have a specific machine in mind? It might help to consider how much space you have, your budget, and how often you play your current machines. If you’re really into pinball and have the room for it, another one could be a great addition!

So AI has said its a great addition! That'll do me :D I'll blame ChatGPT for my next purchase 🥳
