The eBay Auctions / Facebook / Gumtree / Shpock 2024 thread

Sorry, I think my point was that - if you're buying from an operator - the pin will probably have a problem and a Spike 2 may not be as easy or cheap to fix as a Bally Williams. You don't want to pay £4995+VAT and then have to fork out for a node board on top! The Spike 2 pins at Funland get dodgy flippers, node boards and (for the Prems) mechs.

I agree that Spike 2s HUO are rock solid :) But I thought they were outside the budget of the OP...
Ah didn't realise what there budget was.

Depends what price you get it at from an operator, in this instance £6k is high, now £5k great price, although it's most likely to be dirty, which is time consuming to clean (properly) and possibly other issues, maybe not easy to find out by checking the menu and running some tests 😄

Looking at the photo of that JP2 it appears to be the one from Skegness Pier, I think a few pinheads played on it during our Butlins trip.

Not sure how well they were maintained but the Rush there had the start button stuck in so you could only start a single player game from the lockdown bar button,

I would say 90% of the stuff available right now is still overpriced for the current market. As for this avatar’s price I was offered one about 5 months back for 2750 and I don’t think the market has gone up since then

Stuff on the forum is moving. There aren’t pages of unsold pins available now.

Obviously, I’ve no idea if the sellers are taking big dives on offers, but there’s definitely movement again.

Can confirm it’s the one from Skegness, it held up surprisingly well tbf considering nothing really done to maintain. Flippers were weak towards the end but main problem was the rotating Jeep was busted or at-least not working how it should have been

Yep, I sold a really nice Avatar with extras about 2 years ago for about that eBay price, not surprised it didn’t sell.
Should have kept that one😏

I no doubt bought one of my first machines for too much last year… but hoping with the market now dropped, it should kinda even itself out when I finally find a Starship Troopers and maybe just maybe don’t have to pay 3.5k+ for it! 😅

I definitely would not be paying for more than 3k, even on the better Sega's.

Forum is full of unsold games at the moment.

You can grab some good deals on eBay/FB if you're willing to haggle.

Hmmm. Not so sure. A quick look and there are a bunch of TV games and high end stuff but not a great deal of lower priced pins. Stuff seems to be selling , but just taking longer . And yeah there are some over priced titkes. Always has been , always will.
I think we got used to pins being snapped up in minutes sometimes the last couple years . It’s now more like the pre madness days when it could take weeks to sell a pin .
I remember years ago selling a Pinbot for £250 - took about a month to sell :D

I’ve changed my mind on Avatar- used to think it was meh but it’s a fun game once you start learning the rules and battle the amp suit
I’m yet to be converted; it’s probably my second least favourite game of the 28 currently at Special When Lit (only beaten by Rocky!)

Agree its 💩💩💩 out of 💩💩💩💩💩
I've played it alot, when it came out, it was the only playable game near me and a couple of times at pinball republic, just to double check it was still 💩

Don't think I agree filter by for Sale and there's a good chunk up there.

My wanted ad hit zero PM's and I ended up grabbing something off eBay.

It's a brutal game and you've really got to know the rules to help. Mode stacking is a must for a decent score.

The one at pinball republic plays harder than the one at Special When Lit - it doesn't have the pop bumper deflection spring (early model) and I upped the ball save time on the one at SWL so if it does go SDTM from the pops, you get a ball save (ball saves normally time out whilst the ball is in the pops).

Yes, but sometimes people forget to change the ad to ‘sold’. The mods had a spate of clearing out the dead For Sale threads - I forget how long ago.

There aren’t an unusual number of ads for sensibly-priced pins listed in the last couple of months. There are several ads where the seller is evidently not budging on price and doesn’t need to sell - so, they hope someone turns up.

Avatar? I enjoy playing the one at PBR because it doesn’t feel (unless I’m missing something) that there are any subtle strategic choices. You just have to backhand the two multiball starts, ideally stacking them, and you either manage to pull that off… or, in my case, usually don’t.

Obviously, for a home environment, that’s the biggest diss I can give the machine. My 80s pins have more interesting scoring decisions.

All I know is my wanted AD hit 2 responses, that was it.

Games listed have been up for months and no I don't think it's that they forgot to change it.

Meanwhile eBay is getting a lot of games listed and again going unbidded/sold!

I’ve never had any success with Wanted ads. People sell usually pins because they have to - either for home improvements/vehicle repairs, or because they want a new pin.

Sometimes people sell because they’re bored, but that’s not been the case for as long as I’ve been in the hobby.

As such, I usually get 1-2 responses to any Wanted ad, and they’re usually of the form “I have a lovely Stranger Things Pro. Lovely original condition, no mods. You can have it for £10k, if you want”. I’ve spoken to others who have the exact same experience.

If you want a specific pin, the best tactic seems to be to wait, or put up a Wanted ad as a ‘flag’ to let other forum users know you’re looking for a specific pin. I’ve had a LOT of success with people knowing I want a pin from my Wanted ad and then pointing me to sales on Facebook Marketplace/Gumtree, etc.

I've had better luck in the past on wanted Ads, it's how I got my CV and if I remember right my ToM.

Market on the forum from my perspective is stale with many games listed but nothing of interest that I'd be after.

Meanwhile on eBay I just grabbed a JD.

I suspect the down turn in prices has put people off selling.

I will be doing this again in the "big summer clean-up" i do every year... Basically "expire" anything for sale over 3 months old thats had no activity in a month.... along with pruning users that have registered however havent actually posted anything... :)

That'll probably be the time to best time to confirm what's *actually* for sale :)

I'd assume anyone waiting for a bite in the For Sale section will repost/reactivate their ad.

The Spike 2 pins at Funland get dodgy flippers, node boards and (for the Prems) mechs.

To be fair they get next to no maintenance at all. The only maintenance they get is by me (before a comp so it's just to keep them running) and recently @Nick who's managed to convince them to let him fix the games.
Lots of operators do maintain their games just Funland is an odd one, which is odd considering it's Electrocoin.

Maybe because they are overpriced. ??

Yeah, I think it was @moose who got sick of the old adverts and prompted a clean-up 😆
