The eBay Auctions / Facebook / Gumtree / Shpock 2024 thread

a wonderful thing i learnt yesterday was about HMRC's super computer that monitors everyones financials.

Apparently it now monitors ebay, vimto, craigslist, payal and all sorts of other lovely things.

example: Ebay accounts with over £1700 of activity per year are flagged for tax collection purposes as its counted as trading and subject to tax even on second hand sales.

sounds lovely for selling high value items like pinball machines. tax on the money earned, taxed to buy the goods then taxed to sell them again second hand.

need to look into the exact details more but can the tax system get much worse in this country..

I believe Only if you sell the pin at a profit and in this market that's almost impossible, but I'm probably wrong, not something I've ever bothered about, I think it's aimed at the side hustle, which is basically people running a business, masquerading as selling personal goods privately

just a tad awkward if the pin was originally bought with cash that appeared from somewhere unknown.

ebays suddenly even less appealing than it already was.

Yeh it's a potential problem, it's partly why I don't go to England via Dublin when swapping pins. Nothing to do with avoidance, proving would take time

My guess this will be a non-event, 'cos a) there are too many legit reasons /exceptions for exceeding the threshold and b) HMRC are hopeless at investigating and gaining convictions - last year it was circa 200 people convicted, and that's for all tax related crimes in the entire population of 70 odd millioln people.

From what I have seen on YT, SJ makes good firewood 😁
as does Fire!

Sound like this cab was donor before hand to make a better a fully working SJ. Doesn’t have a pinside ranking which surprised me- maybe not many left

Wow that was 8 years ago we did that :D

For our younger viewers the full story is on this thread link posted below - in a nutshell cooldan had 2 SJ , he used any good stuff off this for the other , what was left was in rough condition . Nobody wanted to buy this at 500 quid all in so we decided to have fun . An op had cut holes in the playfield also iirc . Obvs boards etc removed before we torched it.

Good times in a very different pinball world

Pinside went mental

Just read that Pinside storm again, 8 years later.... 😄. Shouldn't we all be 'offended' and start a protest these days for the bad teeth comment. :hmm: 🤣
I liked "So just as to not upset you again I will be making a pizza later it will be topped with sweetcorn now I don't always use all of my tin so would you like me to wrap it up and ship it over to you in case you decide to make a pizza and might need sweetcorn ." pmsl 🤣

I guess hurricane is the most parted out game. No one wanted to pay more than 300 for them and it has a desirable board set. I never sold a working one. Waste of time trying.

Same went for that turd jurassic park 2. The snagger never worked and of course it was a deal breaker for potential buyers so 5 of them bit the dust . Parts saved 2 star wars trilogies down the line

SOME Americans really like the oursler fairground trilogy. Cyclone is desirable there. Different market l suppose.

Best amusement park game is funhouse by a mile. Then jolly park
