Stern Ghostbusters

I know it's early code but I thought it looked surprisingly.... meh. Time will tell I guess but I am officially off the hype train for now.

I'd say there will be an upgrade from the dmd.

Surely at this stage it's cheaper to have a lcd or led screen in there

Watched the dead flip stream. Looked good to me, though a little disappointing the ramp feeds to the right all the time on the pro from either entry. Also not sure about magnetic slings on the higher up models. Magnets are way too random for that kind of thing and i should know having programmed many. Maybe there's some new super duper pwm stuff in the spike system or something

Considering it was the proto they were playing I thought it looked great. I do think they ought to have a more polished presentation and player especially as this was the first viewing.

at a fireside chat at expo 2004 a Stern person revealed that DE and Williams were offered the dot matrix tech at the same time (around 1988) but both companys were wary of the cost increase. Gary asked if there was a cheaper option which is why DE used the smaller display until LW3. the cost saving per machine to have that crappy little display was $18!

Here is video of Keith Elwin scoring 2 billion with 21 Super Jackpots in a row! Game looks much better than the stream video. This is going to be a massive seller for Stern.

Is it a wide body?
And I'm confused (like most probably) with the magnetic slings- why on the video do they look like they pop the rubber band like a normal sling?

Standard size pin, just crammed slot in.
This is the PRO version. The PREM & LE have the new "magnaslings"

Oh yeah- forgot they squeezed an extra Lane in Metallica too!
I like the look of the game, really dislike the backglass!
Not sure about bashing slimer, I'd have preferred to be smacking on the marshmallow man or even a fridge to open up and release Zool, but they've use did in a good way with it 'sliming' the playfield!
Overall looks like a good game!

The second video released of the pro shows a better angle and how slimed interacts with the game. The Playfield looks a lot more vibrant as well.
Quite looking forward to this

My interest has completely gone for this.

Light show is really lacklustre on the pro, and premium and LE both lack rgb LEDs and will presumably ape the pro's illumination. If it's still dmd, they could at least have made an effort with lighting.

Looked like very little variation in shots and their order on the dead flip show. Modes and dmd animations were very sparse so close to launch, too.

Loved the sound effects, but again they seemed really limited.

Whilst they went to town with art, the rest is looking pretty vapid and as if there's a huge amount of corners and costs cut still.

If it got a bunch of code and I was paying US prices I'd probably pick up a Pro towards the end of the year. UK / EU no thanks, especially when other companies are pushing the envelope.

I'd really like to play one asap, but I think it's another case where Stern have massively screwed up on one of the best licenses out there. They did the same thing with The Walking Dead.

Cabinet art on all models for Ghostbusters is ugly as hell. Rubbish backglasses too.

Other than that, the novelty of it being Ghostbusters is probably enough to make it a success.

I've warmed to TWD esp with latest code. I'm hoping operators like the look of GB as it could do well on site

I had the misfortune to play a TWD with very early code in November - an LE at an arcade in Hunstanton (was on the way to seeing family). It was dire. Beyond bad. Everything sucked. Can't believe they actually launched it like that. Can't believe the arcade hadn't updated code either.

I haven't played one with up to date code, but it does look like a good title now - up there with metallica and star trek ... different obviously with the bash targets and crossbow on prem / le.

I don't think GB will be in that bad a state, but code and sound effects seem much, much thinner than GoT when it was shown 6 weeks before first units ship. There aren't as many shots to hit as any of the titles i just mentioned so they will only be able to do so much, what ever they do with code.
