New members - say hello right here : )

Hi all

First post on here. I'm a noob but have loved pinball since I was a kid. Just bought one of my favourite machines, Whirlwind, which seems hell bent on bankrupting me. The bastard thing is about as reliable as a British Leyland car made on bull week!

Paid waaaaay to much for it (I think) and have since become best mates with Andy Netherwood who spends more time round my house than the kids. Still I love the piece of crap. Desperate to learn so basic skills so I can save me and the wife from eviction when I default on the mortgage. Perhaps we will live in the thing on the roadside if worst comes to worst.

Thanks all.

Do many people join leagues? I'm not that interested in the competitive bit, just like playing, but meeting people and picking up tips would be good. Forgot to mention in the first post, I live in Nuneaton which is near Cov-Leicester.

Now over to one of the other threads as I need a lift ramp for the pinball from hell

Don't know about other leagues but the Northern meets seem to be a 70:30 split between actual people competing and people just gassing and catching up with mates. Its seriously NOT competitive either - Not like the few pinball comps I've seen at shows anyway.

My first posting, so just a note to introduce myself. I’ve followed postings on the list for a while and been really impressed by how knowledgeable and helpful people are. I currently have 3 machines – Op Pop Pop (Bally EM) which I’ve owned for over 30 years; Trail Drive (Bally EM with backglass animation) which I bought non-working and brought back to working order as a way to learn about simple EM maintenance. I’ve now also acquired the Barracora that received some mild ridicule on this list when it appeared on eBay last year. We did have it working and with help from Andy I hope to get that going again very soon. I’ve particularly enjoyed recent stories of how people persuaded their loved ones to let them build a games room in the garden. I’ve been very lucky as my wife had a games room built for me by mistake (that’s another story). I’m near Matlock, Derbyshire and would be very pleased to make contact with any local collectors/players. Best wishes, John.

welcome John - if you click on the 'user map' up top, you'll see there's quite a few pinheads in your area which is always a good place to start

Welcome to the forum John  You're not too far away from me.
HI Ronsplooter, yes and you have a fantastic line up. If you ever have an 'open day' or event I'd love to try out your Fathom. I nearly bought the one in Derby that appeared and re-appeared on ebay last year.

Everybody loves some Fathom :D It's actually at my Dads at the moment in storage as it's going to get a full on restoration once the CPR playfields are released but I might be bringing it home for a bit as a space has opened up at my house. You're welcome to come over to play some games, shoot me a PM and we can arrange something

Hi everyone. Not a newb as such but have a new login. been around since the old days of the POA. Notable highs have been collecting all the 1981 bally's, winning best of show at the first UKPinball show and creating Forbidden Planet with JT as well as Full Throttle with Heighway.
Welcome Phil.

Surely buying my Shadow was also another high ? ;)

that shadow was bloody lovely. Best playfield I've ever seen. Looked great rerubbered in white. Right up till Stormy and I were putting it on a van for a show and ripped a chunk out the back! Went to France in the end.
It was nice wasn't it ?
Probably the most mint condition machine I have owned. Absolutely no Sanctum wear and a lovely cab.

Good to see you on here. Do you still have the Fathom ?

Hi all. My first post on a pinball forum. I have had a Williams Comet for 8 years sitting in bits in my garage. I brought it into the house last week and got it going for 1 night and now need help on it. I have restored and still own a few vintage jukeboxs & a couple of one arm bandits, but all the electronics in the Comet is making my head spin. I am in N London, Richard

Hi

My name's Stewart & I'm a pinball-aholic. Well, just getting back to it after 20 years. Don't own a pin yet, but performed so poorly in the comps at 8-bit flip that I feel I need one at home for practice :D Did manage to get my name on someone's Big Buck Hunter over the weekend, so I can play, just not consistently ;) I'll have to get rid of one of my arcade cabs to make room - wonder if I'll be able to persuade the committee at work that they want one for the chill-out room.

Fave machines - Centaur, Haarlem Globetrotters, 8 Ball Deluxe (told you I was just getting back into it)
