New members - say hello right here : )

Hello all. Just signed up today.

Recently managed to get some space and a couple of machines setup so enjoying playing again after several years break (I'm still not that great a player though!).

Currently have a NF, MSF, STTNG, BK2K and CV but not all setup alas.

Welcome to the forum Graham :)

Welcome, sounds like you need to build a pin cave for that nice collection you've got.

You'll find some nice examples in the forum.

Hi, my name is Tony and I've been at stage 1 (see stages of ownership thread) for many years now.

Used to play all the greats as a teenager, my first one was Harlem Globetrotters in the college rec room.

Then me and my best mate got into spending every Saturday in the arcades playing Black Knight, Flash Gordon, Terminator 2, Fun House, Addams Family, 8 ball deluxe, White Water, all the greats and a few others.

He bought a White Water but I didn't have space in my flat for a girlfriend and a pinball machine!

Anyway when he passed on all his stuff was sold and I regret to this day not buying that damn machine.

Now 30 years on I'm building a shed in my back garden and need to fill a pinball machine shaped space in my shed and my life!

My dream pinball would be a White Water, second fave would probably be Funhouse or Addams Family although at the moment I'd settle for anything that would get me playing!

It would be great to have one to play and one to restore, blimey that's two already! :)

Welcome Tony, I hope your building a BIG shed because your going to need it for this addiction!

Especially as your looking for 2 pins to start with. I'd recommend getting to pins with the same boards inside, this means when your learning to fix one you can test boards from a know working pin.

Thanks guys, the shed is a 16ft x 16ft self built job.

Thanks for the advise Cmor I suppose I'll have to do a bit of research on what machines have the same boards? or am I talking crap? I haven't I'm good with computers, a beginner with electronics and generally quite handy (I like to think!) so it will be an adventure!

I live in Worthing, I think the nearest meets are in London? Would be worth a trip though.

Mustn't get ahead of myself and buy a machine just yet, just started the shed and it's and evening and weekend job at the moment, may bring some pros in to get it done more quickly.

Welcome. This website will be your friend http://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/ and on the first page you can see the boardset groups in the first column. It depends on what you want out of the hobby but personally I enjoyed tinkering with a Bally Solid State first before getting a later Data East DMD machine (and wanting an Electro Mechanical next).

Thanks will do,

Going to a meet would be great, unfortunately really busy at the weekends atm training for 100Km (62 mile) walk in aid of Huntingtons Disease Society it's at the end of June so getting lots of long walks at the weekend, I should be fine if the knees hold out! Otherwise I would have signed up for the bash in Salisbury.

I'll keep an eye on the calendar to catch the next one somewhere nearish me.

YES! Get in! Definitely up for that!

Woohoo!

Are there any places to play in Worthing? The only one I know is in The Rose and Pose (Rose and Crown to nonlocals) which was a Simpsons machine last time I was in there.

you are well placed dude, one of the guys called out above will be along soon to answer, but you landed on your feet with location and timing, Matt's pin-shed is the best in the country that i'm aware of, about 25 beautiful machines in there in his back garden. see you there on 19th June, i've been to all of Matt's league meets for the last 6 years and they're always fantastic. wouldn't miss it for all the tea in China.

Welcome aboard soldier !

You are indeed in the promised land .....the glorious sunny South. Yep Will is in Worthing, I am just outside Brighton, Matt is Bognor way. And not forgetting @Rav near Chichester

Nothing else on site in Worthing as far as I know.

Brighton has a few more these days , and I know it is pretty much up to date - check the Pinformer list http://www.pinformer.co.uk/

Hopefully see you at Matts meet  Maybe we have met if you ever attended the South Coast Slam in Worthing (2010-2014 RIP) ??

Nope, never attended a pinball meet up before, dunno why I didn't think of it before.

Might have to pop out to play on The Simpsons tonight, get some practice in :)

If you don't mind travelling a bit we have a days pinball happening this Sunday at Special When Lit here in Salisbury. More information at:

Oops, just remember you said you couldn't make this Sunday earlier in the thread... D'oh

Hi all, I'm George from Knutsford in Cheshire.

I've never been into pinball much having spent my youth concentrating on arcade games. I'm 45 now so back then it was the golden age of Track and Field, Star Wars, R-Type, Marble Madness etc etc and I never really gave pinball much time, probably because I was crap.

Pal of mine has a Williams Indiana Jones so I'd had a go on his and quite liked the tinkering part of things having started building and repairing pcs in my 20s.

I've recently been spending a bit of time at Arcade Club in Bury, primarily to play the Star Wars cockpit they have there. That's when I started playing a few different pinball machines and I quickly realised that they are a lot deeper and, imho, have a lot more longevity in terms of game play than I remember, and certainly more than a classic arcade machine.

Anyway, I decided to get one to play and hopefully have a tinker with so I've bought a Hook from Chris which is coming next week. I'm sure I'll be asking lots of questions once it arrives, as I've been captivated by PeteB's restoration thread, so please be patient with me!

George

Welcome George, it's a steep learning curve but it's fun to learn to fix stuff. Start with bulbs and rubbers and switches, then in no time you'll be doing a flipper rebuild

My wife and kids love the hook film so I'm very tempted to get one. It looks a lot of fun but never actually played one

I quite like the theme / look of it. Never played it though, but would have one one day - seems good value too.

Welcome George, FYI theres a northern league meet in Ellesmere port in June, may be worth your time to meet other owners in the area.
