JJP GNR Pinball

Fooflighter on Pinside has put washers around the playfield as he was a seeing pooling/ chipping on and ball guides that were biting into the playfield.

he has done quite a few!

all the areas that he has done, there have been no signs of any further wear after a considerable amount of play

Yup- before a game is played I will be going round and checking all that, as well as adding washers.

some have said that JJP have been adding longer posts from May builds onwards

I have actually chatted with Phil Palmer about the GnR posts and my findings. Things are being discussed at PH-HQ ref posts/washers etc.

When the ship arrives it also has to clear customs and then Hadfields will sort out delivery schedules.
That’s good to know- If you and PH come up with some sort of remedial pack to apply. I’m willing to not flip one ball until it’s applied to the playfield.
Is this something you reckon is in the pipeline pick?
Edit- I already have cliffys GnR pack with carbon fibre washers on order.... but unsure this will offer full protection - or should I say best effort , Durex vs Wilko branded lol...
Preventative measures, better than cure..... when there’s isn’t one.

At this point I’d pay good money for PH to check it over and install a remedial pack before delivery!

As for the Cliffy cf washers, I’ve got 10 but think I’d use those as a last resort, if damage was occurring.
They’re adhesive, for one thing.

Yeah, I’m happy to pay for a remedial pack.
I could install it myself after delivery.
There’s seems to be a lot of advice bowling around but what’s the best preventative measures to take?
Im really hoping the guys in the PH circle can conjure something up prior to rolling out the next shipment.
I guess it’s in all our interests given the lack of interest from JJP on the matter.

you never know - this batch could be fine - I seriously doubt it but it could be. The CE games are the ones that are at most risk I would say. But you have to go into this thinking you are going to have issues.

I see no evidence that changing the posts will make any difference based on the other damage areas and putting down washers isn't a solution either. The one thing that worries the hell out of me on this is the disc and the unprotected edge.

it would look so much better if you got rid of that bit of playmobil grey plastic stair case - although on the other hand you could add these to it and make it awesome! I suppose when its mounted on a game the staircase won't be noticeable but I'd probably remove it or paint it black.

although agree with Kev compared to most of stern's offerings its great value.

We are planning to do one without the sculpt - but it won't be much cheaper, allowing people to do just this :p. Probably not with Playmobile people though.

the sculpt is fine, just the grey plastic bit makes no sense to me. Its like there was a master plan to stick stuff on that but then it cost too much. I thought this was going for £250, for £750 that's almost Dave Bishop levels of crazy but hey I just got my LZ topper so I can hardly moan.

£750!?* 😂😂

*No disrespect to those who worked on it.

Admittedly, Europeans and Americans (and to a lesser extent Australians) seem to be finding the price point more palletable.

If you think its expensive, try and reverse engineer the BOM.

That's nuts, bolts, custom LED boards, wifi driver board, sculpt, someone to hand paint, labour to build, power supply wiring, board set wiring, T-Nuts, 3D prints, audio wiring, acrylic, acrylic machining, special bound black wood, routing, packaging, packaging material, printed instuctions, postage of all these things to a workshop to build. That's the bill of material per topper.

Then on top of that fixed development costs, sculptor design cost, artists costs, engineering costs, prototyping costs, software development.

Are the monitors along the stage just boxes or have they lights in them ?

great work on this 👍
They do indeed have addressable LEDs in them, there’s a lot of wiring router into the base and other places to make it look clean. If you look you can see the plate that covers that wiring.

There is 5 custom boards in this, plus 5 more addressable LED strips. The monitor ones create a depth that doesn’t come across in the video, the light subtly dances off of the stage (hence it in silver) and the sculpt.
