Energy prices - gone nuts.

Bulb have set up a virtual queue - told me there would be a 2 minute wait. Didn't time it, but it certainly didn't take king til I could enter my readings.

Apparently E.On are now blaming Martin Lewis for crashing their website because he suggested with the price hike imminent people should get meter readings in ASAP.

One of Britain's biggest energy suppliers, EON, has blamed financial expert and money saving expert Martin Lewis for "bringing down Britain" and causing "unprecedented demand" on energy supplier websites.

I didnt look into wether or not they actually said this or the webpage reporting it ... ahem.. embellished.

EonNext have stuck up a message on the login page now letting people know they have until the 9th April to submit the meter reading for the 31st.

Its like the panic buying of petrol because one company ran out all over again.

I also understand why the system would go down, I wouldnt want to massively scale a meter reading system just for a single day
Agree there is nothing untoward here but still a little surprising that the large energy suppliers don't have more elastic set up to cope was a spike in demand it makes them look unprofessional IMO.

Probably no point spending all that $$$ on infrastructure for one day?

Based on my experience with Scottish Power over the last 15 months, even if I had spoken to someone who was helpful and understood the issue, it would take another 6 months for back office to process the change. They would reject it once and mess it up a few times.

Few of these are fast moving agile companies from what I can tell.

Checked my 'smart' meter.
Unit rate and standing charge not yet changed.
Anyone else?

Hello new rates :D Electric went up 8p and gas has doubled lol

That electric standing charge though! 50p a day if I don’t even use it!

Im glad I fixed with Eon until Oct, as rates are cheaper than those above, even though I'm paying double what I used to. Roll on paying 4 X come October.

I thought Octopus were supposed to be £50 under the price cap, the rate and standing charge for your electric are higher than what I'm paying at EonNext.

Oh great. Looks like I can't change suppliers at the moment even if I wanted to. Ho hum

I’ve never switched accounts. So what’s the best deal or should I stick at variable..?
