For 750 I'd buy another one!

You guys are nuts. I am starting to think that none of you have actually played one. Ever.

View attachment 9466

I played it at a previous pinball show, twice at the PHOF and then twice at Retro Revival the other week, just to make sure... and I did not enjoy one minute of it ever. I can say I have properly given it a chance an I am never ever going to like Popeye, no matter how many more times I play it.

I guess it's good that we don't all like the same machines though eh? It means that the people that can tolerate Popeye get to have it cheap:rofl:

Brilliant condition TOM anyone...
To be fair the starting price is relatively low so you could argue it's been priced with condition in mind.

Of course what's more likely to happen is people will be forgiving of it's faults and i'll end up going for silly money.

It's the description that I'm lamenting not the price...

Different people like different tables, if we all liked the same it would be boring.

I totally agree with this and have said it many times in fact. I do not care for ToM but other people rate it as the best game ever. Different strokes for different folks and all that.
I don't care that people do not like Popeye. What bothers me is when people blindly slag games off that they have had two goes on once. Or worse still, have never even played! Really annoys me.. Grrrr.... See! :p

Some games take a while to click. In all honesty, if I had only ever played Popeye in the wild I probably wouldn't think much of it either. It took me 20 games to work out what the feck I was supposed to be doing! But now I know I can enjoy it.
This is the same reason I believe it flopped commercially. It is not great at telling you what you should be doing.

I've been told that people dislike TOM because it's "Boring in a collection."

Can someone explain this? I don't get it. (Then again I've never owned one in a collection so...)

Yes! This highlights my point about Popeye too!! ;)

I had ToM. Absolutely fecking loved it. Couldn't stop playing it. A month later I wanted to burn it! For me, the call outs got very, very annoying. And the game play became too easy.
Popeye is the opposite. Wasn't overally impressed at first. It took me ages to work out what to do. And when I did it is very difficult to achieve. Which keeps me coming back for more.

But that illustrates why ToM is a fantastic 'on site' pin and not not great in a small home collection. And Popeye is the total opposite. (IMO of course.) I used to love playing ToM on location but hated it at home. And I imagine Popeye would be horrible on location but is good at home.

Yup, have only ever played it on site and at shows, I enjoy it when I get to play it but I can see why it would get boring fast. Thanks for explaining it!

Saw these pics of TOM's first incarnation on Pinside yesterday. Would it have been better left like this? Love the way the artists screwed up DCs name

Really enjoyed TOM for the first few weeks when I had it. Never got to the hate stage but don't really miss it.

I would bid on the Popeye if it weren't so far away. The cab looks to have no red fade whatsoever which is really rare for this game.

I love the look of Clown but the gameplay is not for me sadly. If I had a lot more room I'd go for it. Just for the huge freaky clown face alone!

I really don't get some people. MM +MB on the bay "played 10 times in 10 years". WTF:confused: 10 plays?!?

OK, so he'll make a killing on it in terms of price appreciation but why would you collect machines but never play them? Is it the equivalent of mad old women who put knick knacks above the fire place. "well here's the back room, sorry it's rammed full of large pinball tables, there for looking at, not for playing".

Astute time to stick in on though. Finishes on a week on sunday and just a couple of junctions down from Daventry. Suspect he'll be the best part of 10k richer by the end of the month

Price is fairly reasonable but the description just gives you the impression the seller is an **** :tut:

Why do we need to know this:

"Note: this is a one off sale, if it does not sell it will go back in the house & one of my children can inherit it." :cuckoo::cuckoo:
