Today I worked on.... trying to beat my son at Pinball, which failed as normal really but we had a fun day out.

Popped into Edinburgh today and a quick visit to Lane 7 where we had a game of Deadpool 😍 and the Walking Dread. actually lasted more than 5mins on WD.

WhatsApp Image 2023-03-25 at 18.19.08.jpeg

We then headed to the best place in Edinburgh, which is Mortal Kocktail. A great venue, great company and great food and a blast playing Pinball and some Arcades :)

I see the Avatar still has my high score, I wasn’t up there but sold it to them😂

Did some Shadow work today, it did reset on me a couple of times but after reseating some connectors it’s not done it again🤞
Nice improvement with the speakers, will take the sub level control out as on max it’s about right.
Added a decal to the ball lock magnet hold area which looks pretty good and hides the scuffs nicely.
Crispy connector changed, just need to get a colour screen so looking out for one.

Have a couple of drop targets on EBD that have never dropped by the controlled mpu, couple of cooked coils it turns out. Will need to check the transistors.
Have a set of new drop targets and thought I would change this lot while I was working on it with the unit hanging off of cable ties under the playfield🤯

I was crawling around under pins looking for horseshoe clips as they pinged off and getting the rod back through the drop target brackets was an absolute ball ache, luckily there wasn’t a hammer about😂

Got them back in 😮‍💨

If either of the two dropper coils was the three-terminal type, then the associated transistor also drives another solenoid; No.1 is paired with the outhole, I can't recall just now about No.2.

Update - looking back at a thread about EBD from '2 Huwman' reminds me that target No.2 is paired with the in-line target bank reset

The inline reset is ok and is target 2, it’s no.1 and 5 that are seized solid. Was looking at the diagram to work out which transistors but looking like 2 coils per transistor and couldn’t work out from the numbering so will just check them from this handy list.
Was bought like this and no sign of any smells so god knows when it happened.

Just finished putting all the other targets in which was so much easier, once I fit the new coils I can drop the playfield and get the meter out.

All targets fitted along with a few controlled target coils and all working, no board faults so somebody probably changed the board at some stage but left the burnt out coils🤷‍♂️
Just a couple of lamps out now and nice for all the targets to do what they are supposed to do, would be nice to have a new playfield but it’s good enough and plays well ✅

We had a casualty working on our AFM (see: https://www.pinballinfo.com/community/threads/health-warning-re-1990’s-bally-williams-playfield-ratchets.55744/), but it’s now back together with:

Glow-in-the-dark Titan rubbers;
Bill Ung saucer/extension mods;
Gozmod motherboard;
Plastic protectors by @Colywobbles;
Comet LEDs;
A CPR mirrored backglass (not pictured);
A custom VUK building (not quite stable yet, we’re working on it);
Dremelling and rebluing of a ramp (see: https://www.pinballinfo.com/community/threads/shininess-of-ramp-flaps-on-afm….55743/#post-510049).

Oh, and a good clean!

Still needs a backboard, side blades/art and redecalling of the cab, but that’ll have to wait. Huge thanks to my husband who literally has risked life and limb doing the bits that involved complex written instructions (he has five staples in his scalp) 🥰

LE didn’t have the helicopter. I put one on mine although it’s nuts that it was 6 years ago!

I’ve had these superb mini pinball translites sat on my desk for about two years. Got 10 different ones.

IMG_6300.jpeg

I designed and made the led panels in Nov 21 and again been sat gathering dust on my desk for 18months!

IMG_6295.jpeg

So i’ve just bought some nice black wood picture frames for them. Was shocked at the price of picture frames. £30 each!

IMG_6299.jpeg

Now it’s time to assemble. The leds need to be a couple of cm back from the translite, so needs a rear box making out of wood :

Controller is an esp32s module, and I’m going to try out WLED as the controller software.

Cleaned up the ramps for my wcs refurb. Now all 3 on the drying rack.

Bought a heatsink for a bridge rectifier that had been fitted topside and also bolted the other one to the metal plate as that was left unattached, added heatsink compound too.
Surprised it worked as the topside one was getting very hot. Heatsink does get hot but better than nothing on there!

Had to have a few games on some classics as well😎

Nice finish on that cab, black shows up everything!
Think you have got the knack of this restoration thing lol😎
Thanks mate. Yeah that’s the thing with black. I spend quite while on the prep work on cabinets otherwise any issues gets highlighted when you add the black top coat.

I actually used my new spray system for the first time on this one instead of rattle cans. It made a massive difference to he finish as did the new paint I used. And it took me half the time to paint it, which was a right result.

I sprayed cars years ago, using rattle cans is horrible. I hated using them on the cab I stencilled even with the fan nozzles but it came out great, used so many cans though.
Was only brushing spray dust off my fishing gear yesterday and I did that cab last year😂
Bet you had a big smile on your facing using that spray gun, no going back to cans now👍

Yeah I used to use rattle cans with fan nozzles, which imo is a must is you do use rattle cans. But like you said, I used to go through loads of them.
When I used the spray gun to do the primer, I couldn’t believe it. The finish was so much better. But that could be the paint, as I bought it neat, and then thinned it myself, which again is a lot cheaper. You have to spend abit more time cleaning up afterwards but 100% I won’t go back now.

I did spray once inside a couple of years ago and even though I put dust covers up, the dust went everywhere. I only do it outside now.
