The "Today I received" Thread

Three in today:
Harlem globetrotters (I missed it so much I’ve bought a second)
Night rider - always wanted one
Genie - my very first Gottlieb - what a beast

Will get them set up and see what needs doing. Genie got a wobbly rear leg- looks like a leg plate is missing!

Not quite today, but last week. 6 weeks without a Pinball machine, then 2 turn up. I wouldn't normally get 2 in at the same time but that's just how the timings worked out.

I missed out on a Star Wars about 18 months ago so I'm glad I've finally got one now.

I've got a few mods to install, mainly for Star Wars, but I've been a bit busy so have just been playing them rather than modding them. Should keep me entertained for many months and hopefully years.

Nice variety, if you get tired of a brutal machine with a screen you can switch to a brutal machine without one 😂

I haven't played either enough to know if they are brutal, or if I'm just crap at Pinball. No regrets buying either though.
I consider Star Wars to be a step up in difficulty from a lot of other Sterns of this era due to having to move the multipliers around and shooting that target bank to keep your multipliers going, dangerous shot. Watching somebody really good playing Star Wars is poetry in motion stuff.

I'm going to start off concentrating on modes, then will start adding the multiplier stuff as I get better and understand the rules more. It does add an interesting dynamic to the game, with the risk vs reward of moving them around and keeping the multiplier going, without losing the ball.

I know some people don't like it but mashing the centre button during Tie Fighter attack also makes the experience a bit different.

I just got my first 80s machine thanks to @steve brum , and I appreciate Martin's fast delivery.
I'm absolutely loving this theme! The incredible '80s sounds are giving me such a nostalgic rush. I'm looking forward to playing it more.

New toy yesterday.......

FlikFlak1.webpFlikFlak2.webp

Many thanks to @Gotdabug and Mrs Gotdabug - was great to meet up yesterday!!

Made in Germany circa 1972 by Aisch & Melchers KG, it seems all the parts are made by them (or rather, branded by them!), so replacements if needed could be near-impossible to come by!

Theres lots of old caps in there which are looking a bit ropey, so i think it;s best to wind this one up slowly on a Variac to try to avoid anything going pop!

With the days getting longer and the weather starting to improve it means I can start another project so I managed to snag 2 uncommon Gottliebs, one of which has arrived. TX Tx tx..

Game was playing albeit with some issues but the mpu was soldered directly to and had some acid damage in the past, @myPinballs sent me a new mpu which I put in last night and it's working flawlessly apart from the bottom display which I need to look at next.

Another game back from the dead!! lets see more pics :)

Regarding the display, unusual for these displays to fail. The glasses are usually ok, can send it here for me to see if i can fix it. Sometimes the driver chips fail.

I used to be big into collecting these electro-mechanical wall mount games (have about 12 of them)

I got a lot of them from a guy called Harry English in the Yorkshire area.

I went to see him about buying a Flik Flak (and a bowling game) but at the time I last saw him, he was not doing so good due to cancer treatment and I didn't feel like pushing him to do a deal and said I would come back another day when he was feeling better.

Sadly he didn't make it. He was a really nice guy.

I always did wonder what happened to his machines, given the rarity of this machine in the UK and the fact that there have been 2 on here, I do wonder if one of them was from his collection

Just put some leds in the inserts think I'll leave the GI as is.. @myPinballs I'll send you the display during the week if you wouldn't mind taking a look I know repro are available but maybe its fixable. What a game

The bottom display on TX may well be a connector issue, either on the MPU or the display as the connector pins can be very fragile after all these years. I would check the pins before sending it away for repair.

Ran out of light, but you get the gist!

There isn't really a good colour to do WH2O in. I've seen white, navy, yellow and orange and none really seemed to go well imo. I opted to match the blue of the waves on the cab art in the end.
