Team TNA - The UK's Total Nuclear Annihilation Pinball Club

Also, i get some pretty violent airballs of the flippers that make me worry about the glass exploding - is that a concern?
I think I've seen a video of someone throwing a pinball at pinball glass and it doesn't break, though it's never nice when the ball hits the glass.

Avoid hitting the corners on anything as that can cause it to shatter.

welcome
Oh,

Has anyone waxed their TNA yet or is that a suicide mission?

Also, i get some pretty violent airballs of the flippers that make me worry about the glass exploding - is that a concern?
yes and no

Waxing is not that scary and the air balls are fine , just can turn down slingshots etc but it’s most likely it’s a newish game and some bedding in and titan rubbers should ease the situation

Pretty sure it came with perfect plays from the factory which are pretty much the same as titans. Check that the rubber is sitting right on the bat, maybe flip it over.

I wouldn't fit a playfield protector but it's worth putting mylar around the left scoop.

its documented on here about the mylar scoop situation. It's documented on here about everything except effkays issue as that's an anomaly

Didn’t mean to press 2 player but glad I did now

Oh, and note to owners that the troublesome left guide lane with the new longer screws will still work its way loose. I’m now reducing the top flipper power to 15

Thanks for the heads up on the lane guide. I will likely also lower the upper flipper power. How are these held together on other machines? Seems crazy that these are just screwed into the playfield and then inevitably come loose.

Also, great score!!

Many many thanks - Only taken me 15 months 😂

So i fitted my screws prob 12 months ago which isn’t that bad but looking long term i might see if i can source a nut and bolt system with pan head or update the head to torx as i will have lost some wood grip for sure now.
Had to bend back in the top left sling arm too but i can live with that as it doesn’t happen much

Hi Team TNA!

With support from Spooky (they’re really helpful) I’ve managed to diagnose the cause of the reset being the beacon topper. Just thought I’d post that here in case anyone else ever has the same problem. With the topper power disconnected, it no longer resets. I can’t say more than that at this stage, as I’m now awaiting the next steps from Spooky. I think they’re going to send me a new topper.

In other news, my weird feeling right flipper is now sticking on, so all the games testing to fix one issue and now I have another. Defo feels like it’s catching in the sleeve… Gonna dig back through this thread to find @SeikoKid ‘s updates on how to fix this issue, then maybe I will have a fully playable game! Fingers crossed!

Hey, great news and how strange the topper is the problem? it’s a simple motor and light bulb. maybe the lamp is shorting or the motor - perhaps try removing the lamp?

Regarding the flipper even after all my work which i had previously short term resolved on your game started to stick again. This time it was down to a filthy sleeve which i have cleaned and im ok again

Please check my posts as im sure i put everything down. Also on pinside
It’s down to the coil not being in line and the plunger is not 90 perfect to the coil - outing some thin 4mm washers under the front bracket sorts it out. It’s fiddly and i glued mine in place first

If i can find my photos i’ll send them over to you or make a short vid

I’m just checking the stops etc. Right flipper spring has snapped and I have a spare, so that’s ok. Cleaning the sleeves etc.

Left stop has this ring installed, like some sort of spacer - any idea why?

There isn’t one on the right.

well lookie here - my first guess would be its caused by the flipper

Also I have this issue with my right flipper - happened when it gets warm - like the last few days. I open the coin door and it slowly goes away but during a 4 player game it comes back

Bizarrely mine started to do that last night for the first time ever! Something to do with the heat maybe?

Update on the ruddy flippers. Decided to swap back to stock though installed Stern shaft clamps as can’t use the keyed ones and i’ve left in the metal bushes. I’ve still got the power setting on 20 - stock setting still too strong.
Given the fact that i’ve had a complete flipper assembly out of Spooky and it made no difference and then playing @Jmacs before he sold it in the league meet we had the same issue arise the problem was solved by fitting small washers under the front bracket allowing the plunger to slide in and out of the coil sleeve with no resistance ( which was happening from 1 side due to it not being as true as it needed to be )

Packing off the coil from the underside works for a bit but ultimately it’s the spacing of the bracelet that is the cure.

Eventually it started to happen on my left flipper and for several weeks now and a flip load of games we are golden

I think the Precision don’t gel well with titans on TNA , though i have the precision and titans on GZ for a long time now and absolutely no wear or issues at all

I think it’s just dynamics of TNA that wear out flipper rubbers quickly no matter what you use

I’d say the bush and shaft clamp as worthy upgrades. When you take off the stock pawl parts you can clearly see its like having a halfords bike compared to a Kona
some past posts here highliting the problem

Photo of my right flipper front mount lifter slightly using these washers . Levels out the coil and plunger so it doesn't get caught

Do you remember if the game would crash when you achieved meltdown and the topper was active ? Have to tried activating the topper in the service mode ?

Spring washer to limit coil vibration/movement. Pretty much all coil stops should have these 👍

Almost there with a left scoop playfield protector.

Once I got it nailed down in design I will have to test run it. But the wires come off my flipper solenoid and the vans in for wet belt repair . So Saturday / Sunday for physical testing

There is a huge market waiting to be exploited for this type of thing. Cliffy is backed up for nearly a year which is no use to anyone, the TPU protectors offer other options and solutions that he can't manufacture anyway.

Ninjacamp do a cover for the scoop which works really well. Some of their products clamp underneath the playfield using the vuk or scoop or utilise the posts which also help to keep them in place.

They look to have given up on exploring this market so I'd say it's game on for someone willing to have a go 👍

Noted
Regarding clamping it there is no other option bar the depth of the chute but it’s too extreme

The scoop mod i could make thinner and use that to clamp it all in but i’m drastically changing the mech and seems a bit silly

I’ve taped mine in, i got a few guys over tonight for a matchplay event so it will get hammered

I have been sitting with this for a while and @C&C is testing one out for me too, so it’s likely this will be the one ( for now 😂 )

Cliffys are amazing, metal against metal

But with the plastics you can manipulate and take different angles, The TpU absorbs impact and can stop rebounds etc
depends on how the user feels / wants

If all goes well tonight i’ll put it in my shop on pinside and let the Americans rip me a new one

Have a look at the Ninjacamp instuctions and you'll see how they did it. I believe Aniraf said that should they call it a day they'd make all the files open source, so that should be coming soon ( hopefully ).

Take a look at this thread :- https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/ninjacamp-mods/page/2

This shows how they approached things and some of the ways to anchor the protectors.

The VUK protector for Rush is an amazing design, this is something that would work so well on lots of games ( Pulp, Stranger Things sucer etc )

Thanks, it's a similar way I looked at it. But TNA has a gap between the scoop chute and the chamfer. It steps out. and then nothing to attached too. Im pretty happy wit this one for now. Pulp one is being fine tuned today but for the moment sticky tape is the solution

Which is what I have on the Pulp pawn shop protector but as ive said there isn't that ability on the TNA one

Having never seen one, is the metal hole protector fixed to the scoop by the four screws ?

Would removing it and making a full TPU protector that then opened up the hole size to the original dimensions and also secure it not be viable ?

Those are rivets. It's a complete unit. It's like a mine shaft, nothing but smooth metal . you can stack 3-4 balls in there at once
