Pinball sale dishonesty or laziness?

I was going to say I thought the R&B would be ok as I looked into this one and nearly bought it.
The guy seemed sound and had a really nice collection of machines.
His name was Matt and posts on many forums.

Think what made the scam a bit more plausible is that the seller did not go for a highly sought after title, who would think you would get scammed on a Rocky  , AFM, MM etc yes

That's a diff bloke your thinking of Matt Vince. Matts a sound chap got my machine from him. The scam one was from gumtree

R&B was from Matt Adams
Matt Vince has more hair and more belly
Matt Whitfield is shorter and wears glasses but beat his dad into 29th at John's recent meet.
none of them had anything to do with Rocky or Gumtree

I knew it was one of the good guys not the dodgy one

When I trade pins I always give the most honest description I can and a link to photobucket where I store shed loads of close up pics.even then I offer to take more pics as and when needed.

People still find bits depending on their knowledge ( and my lack of ) and sometimes they tell me it's better than the photos and descrition make it appear when it arrives.
I'm sure those that have traded with me before on here and the yahoo group will confirm the above.

I think 'condition' is always relative to the person buying / selling and as long as nothing has been obviously covered up it will remain this way.
I believe in a 'warts and all' description to avoid any unnecessary aggro personally and always offer visits before cash changes hands if required.

And the repairs start :-

Here is part 1 of the repair video.

If you think I was exaggerating about the condition of the machine, you need to see the video!

Until Luke had a look at the machine, I wasn't aware just how dangerous the electrical side of things were. As shown, both the DMD and sound have deteriorated since posting all the problems above. Dodgy ribbon cables we're hoping are to blame, so replacements have been ordered with a load of other stuff. When I've finished, it'll have been more expensive than that nice and shiney one that has just appeared on Ebay over the pennines from here.. Pure salt in the wound.

Thanks for taking the time to post the video - it's absolutely incredible to think someone sold a machine in that state.

Who have you upset John ? to end up with a dog of a machine like that.
The pinball kama has got to be extra good to you in every other machine you buy to make up for your past lot of machines.
Good to see the fixes have started.

John's started buying shiney new parts like ramps etc. With a very good clean up and all the electrical faults fixed it can be a very nice machine. It's a shame that some complete ass had to lie about the condition in the first place and put us though so much work just to get the thing playable properly.

I bought a Taxi in January (pinball machine, not a car!!!). It came about as the seller was selling a TMNT on eBay and I saw in the background of his pics a highspeed. I asked if he'd sell it which he said yes and was also selling a taxi which he was restoring, so I waited a couple of months for him to finish. Saw some pics and bought it. £900!!! Well over the odds but it had a new pinled display ramps and a replacement Marylin pf. When it arrived it was filthy, half the GI didn't work, flippers wouldn't even make the ramps the Gorbie ball gate didn't work, the bell still doesn't work, the cab is **** he resprayed the back box illiminous yellow. The list goes on.
There will always be people who say you deserve it for not going to collect in person. Maybe if I was paying 7k for a mm I might make the journey. But for me personally I do rely heavily on honesty from the seller. And in my case I really honestly do believe the seller thought this machine was mustard!!! We just have totally different ideas about what Is good!! He apologised but that was it.
I've got new cab decals and on the CPR pre order for a new pf, it will be nice one day but the worlds most expensive taxi!!

Live and learn hey!

I hope you get some resolve with your ToM mate.

Gaz
Where did you get the taxi decals from hope they weren't too dear

Mel

Christ what a dog of a machine. Not good at all!! On the flip side I really enjoyed the video! Very interesting.

Edit, just subscribed to your YouTube page, that's me sorted when my missus and her mate are watching britains got talent!!

Can you not get a full refund under sale of goods act??

Hi Mel. I got a good deal off a group member. He'd bought them for his refurb but sold the game. Might be needing some FH decals in the future though, can you get those?

Not sure tbh. I pushed for a return of the machine and full refund but got nowhere. In fact, I was surprised to get any money back, so when £350 was on the table, I took it to buy a chunk of spares, ramps etc. I could probably have taken it all further but really don't have the time or energy.

The whole thing annoys me that much I just want to get it to what it should have been in the first place; a nice looking and playing ToM. Once it's there, I'll be far happier and will just try and ingore the total expense this one has got to.

Cheers Daz. Big bad ToM has taken the last space though until I can sort a cabin or outbuilding.

Now, now..., how nice was/is my Scared Stiff, Black Rose and Tron (to be)? :D

Your now fully owned HS2 wasn't bad either ! ;)

Think it's fair to say that the seller’s rep is now in question and future customers will be less eager to jump in blind, fair play for going the whole restore hog to counter the experience, personally I find it almost impossible to bond with a machine if there was grief attached to it upon receipt.

It does damper the attraction, know what you mean there.... but got plans to go through everything now and add some bling to hopefully make me feel a lot better about it. :)

Some of the worst pins I have bought have turned out to be my best now.

Once you've gone through all the hassle, and you have put all the time in, and put all the right nice shiny new bits on the playfield, you feel a bond with the pin, and it becomes a lifetime keeper! :)
