Pinball Partay

Still his is teeny lol, the alien head is bigger than the queen which makes no sense

Don't get me wrong it's gonna be an awesome pin. I just wouldn't of gone with the tiny queen

I'm a bit miffed that I didn't get to see the games list until after I'd packed my choice of games and after Andy H had picked up my machines. I'd have sent my AC DC instead of Spiderman of which there were two others there.

Just got home with a Luton full of machines, completely knackered. Had a great weekend, appreciate the comments about machines locked away in the tourney area, thats why I didn't allow mine to go there. Great to chat to some people from here although as usual there were plenty from here that were there but I didnt meet ( no one knows who anyone is! )

Got my first pinball trophy, well shield really, not for playing unfortunatley but for best post 1999 machine, TSPP. Could have sold that 10 times over :). It was nice to get positive comments for the Avatar too, quite a few realising what an underated machine it is.

Enjoyed the tournament play, 5th in my group so just missed out, and qualified 10th place in classics although quickly bombed out this morning. First time I've enjoyed tournament play without feeling really tense, even if i didn't get very far, damn that Andy Foster! :D

so who owned the nib walking dead and the oz ? as i saw they were there all weekend but not used till sunday?

Impossible to say wether it will be a good game, only showed toys/cabinet/virtual machine video but expectations are high and theme couldn't be more desirable, what they showed was very nice but obviously you have to play it to know if its good or not.

I just got home too after a fine weekend, made more sociable and enjoyable by sharing the van and room with Jon @J C Rox whose life story I know now and vice versa. I just have nothing negative to say about the whole weekend. I think Andy probably made a loss on the event due to generous van hire + petrol + free entry combined with probably lower footfall than I've seen previously at UKPP.

Congrats to @johnwhitfield and @skweek and @yellowreggae and Nick Hamill (is he on here?) for winning the team comp on Friday, and to John again for qualifying for the finals. Stormy @mufcmufc had his arms full of trophies as usual, as did Candy Floster, and cups also for @Kate Morris and hubby Richard and @mike K.

My show faves were @kevlar's Avatar and Mike K's Goldeneye. I enjoyed watching Cayle George playing Jackbot.

Alien looks like a potential winner based on the limited info so far - and I hope Andy doesn't leak details of it drip by drip, like Jersey Jack does to his detriment, but instead keeps his cards close to his chest and releases a nearly-finished-but-for software updates game like Stern does. He has really put his balls on the line by actually setting up a real pinball factory shipping real pinball machines from the UK (30 Full Throttles shipped so far, more in production) but I don't think he needs to push his tagline too much about wanting to be the best pinball company, he's already the 3rd biggest in the world.

Bring on the next show, Replay aka NLP in Manchester October 10-11, in 7 weekends' time.

Hi, Big fan of Goldeneye and have one myself. You have states this was one of your Favs from the show, Can i ask why your fav, did it haves mods etc, cheers. Mike

Hey Mike, I used to have one too :)

No, no mods that I saw, it was just that it was set up just right, was clean and polished, well lit, all the shots were sweet, flippers strong ...... and that I had a great 2.5B game on it, nearly even got Q's pen completed, a real rarity!

Thank to all for a great weekend. As mentioned, slightly disappointed at some of the missing games I thought would be there and some of the ones I really wanted to play were only in the tournament but still a lot of fun.
Alien preview was nice but still think he should bring out the 'Alien' game with multiball bursting out of the chest etc and then bringing out 'Aliens' a year later with all the features of that movie rather than tie to two movies into one game.
Anyhow, highlight = beating Cayle George in my first game. low point = being kicked out of the open playoffs as I was on the factory tour and couldn't hear my name being called.
Met a new bunch of great guys, have some strange memories of a dodgy welsh nightclub and looking forward to the next one.

I had a great time, met lots of new people and caught up with the regulars. There were a few games I really wanted to play but tied up in tournaments like most people here (Banzai Run and other rarer stuff) but overall I had a really good time. It was my first time lending games out for the show and they held up well despite the constant play, every time I glanced over I saw people at them which was really nice to see! Here is hoping for another show next year

Who owns the Family guy and the operation thunder? I'm sure the legs got mixed up on those! I had to kneel down to play family guy and borrow a step ladder to play operation thunder :D

I had a great time this weekend and would like to thank all those Involved in making it happen!

In my opinion, the location is not ideal for our premier pinball event In the UK. Whilst those of us that wanted to go made the trip, plenty did not and I can't help feel that the lower attendance was partly down to location.

The venue itself was very spacious with a moderate temperature and on the whole I felt the team organising did a great job. Access was good, toilets were decent for most of the weekend and plenty of seating which I know many were grateful for.

The dinner was the best I have had at a UK pinball party, the selection was good, food tasty and no-one can complain they didn't get enough as you just went back up again.

As the space was so large, I think it made the number of machines seem fewer than when at Daventry just because they didn't have to be crammed in. There were machines that failed or didn't have credits all the time, but that's the nature of this hobby. If you see a fault, report it to someone, however this wasn't advertised and is maybe something to consider in future.

There were a large percentage of the machines used in the comps which at times was a frustration ( and I'm a competitor myself) but would guess that the percentage of people there to compete was larger than that of the machines used. Ideally I think comp machines should be sourced outside of the official machine list to avoid people being disappointed when they arrive and all machines advertised are open to the public. I would also like to see tournament areas separated in some way as people being asked to finish a game as they are on a comp machines sucks, as does asking them to do so. However the number of machines used could perhaps be reduced or rotated In future.

At the 'what do we do in future vote' I opted for a central hotel location like before at Daventry, not because Andy and his team didn't deliver (I felt they did an excellent job) but more because I missed it all being under one roof, not driving off to separate hotels afterwards. I missed the late night drinks (as I was driving), the nip back to the room, the facilities (pool etc) it is much easier to convince your wife to bring the family to a centrally located hotel with facilities than it is to Merthur and a factory! I would like to see more families and youngsters attending and pinball being promoted as much as possible.

Back on a positive note, the space was fantastic and I look forward to more events there in future.

The op thunder was mine and it had the wrong legs fitted!

Matt, good and fair write up. I too probably could have convinced the wife and kids to come if at Daventry and like you say, all under one roof. Andy and the team did indeed do great job but he also said that both sides of the factory will be in full use next year so probably can't be held there again anyway. Well done all.
