Pinball Partay

Better venue than Daventry?
Good question that, and a few of us were discussing this very topic - swings and roundabouts I think-

Daventry had the benefit of comfy rooms on site, but it got crowded. Daventry was more central for more people, but got too hot and had an overpriced bar. And the city centre in Daventry is a lot bigger if you wanted to go exploring or fancied a restaurant. This place has a pinball factory on site, but it's not plugged in yet - looking forward to the tour at 5pm

but got too hot and had an overpriced bar.

Blatantly going to be much cooler in a factory with all that space and air flow. I'd like to know what you were drinking @Daventry to think it was expensive? Beer was a fair price plus we got away with tinnys 3 years on trot.

My count was 34 machines for competition play only. 69 machines in general play (though maybe around 10 or so of those out of action, largely missing credits frustratingly)

Venue is basically a factory, but surely we all expected that? Can't compare it to Daventry hotel fairly.

On the tour he did suggest that this time next year he would hopefully be making better use of the factory space for production, so maybe back to Daventry? I do prefer the hotel luxury to this, interesting as it was to see.

And no one mentioned Alien yet? Ok, i will.... Astounding. Genuinely a wow moment when we walked on that secret room and saw the cabinet. Absolutely beautiful art, and really pops with the backlighting on the side panels.

Toys look really well modelled, and really really optimistic about the future of uk pinball company now

Nice one mate, sounds good

Aliens stuff was only divulged in the closed conference but I'm not at liberty to share

Errrr what? I'm guessing they didn't make you sign an NDA before going into the closed conference  I wasn't asking for photo's...just whether it looked cool or not.

Andy said it's fine to talk about it Rudy. Just no pictures lol

Andy negotiated with Fox to be able to show the licensed work to date, with a limited audience. Again, really good that this was done to the uk hobbyists first. Very appreciated

He showed the cabinet. Stunning, but I am a huge Alien fan (as Andy clearly is too). Flashing beacons on topper will be great in use

Toys were shown. Beautifully modelled transparent eggs, to go over pops, and lit on such a way that you can imagine a creature moving inside. Really well done and works much better than i thought it would when he first mentioned it at Pinburgh.

Alien queen also really nicely modelled. Custom mould, not just a rehashed toy.

Gameplay footage was still work in progress, but showed modes such as rescue jonesy, or working through the tunnels. Again, as a fan of the films, just beautifully captured the mood and atmosphere of the films

I liked the Alien stuff too - the whole colour scheme of the cabinet was basically black (or star scape) but with a ghostly green on the side for the alien head thing, or on the backglass for the egg thing.

We got to see a video of the video-pinball gameplay of Alien, which is a 4 flipper game with lots of ramps and a screen in the playfield. We saw videos showing a choice at the start between playing Alien or Aliens; we saw various versions of the egg-shape bumper-covers, and we saw a mother-alien model that will sit top and centre and ....... and we heard of some other toys like a xenomorph head thing which apparently opens its jaw and grabs the ball with a sticky-out inner mouth magnet bit, and a space jockey thing in the left outlane that may allow a way back into the game. The general feedback in the room was positive, so fingers crossed for a popular game at the end of the day when it gets released. I don't know when that will be, but I'm sure he will get plenty of interest.

Seeing the video emulation of the game made me wonder why / if manufacturers will one day release games digitally, as Pinball Arcade now does, but at the same time as, or before, the physical machine. If I was Gary Stern, I'd be looking at the economics of releasing the digital version at the same time, of TWD or WWE or Kiss or whatever. I'd figure that the 10,000 (or whatever) copies I'd sell at £3 each may not make me a lot of money, but would be seen by a crapload of people who would then be interested to see the real game if they encountered one. Most of these people could never afford a real £6K new game, so I don't believe (as Gary Flower said that Gary Stern told him, in answer to the same question) that it would reduce the number of games sold.

But that's just my opinion. Maybe operators don't want people playing who already learned the rules while playing on their phones sitting on the sofa. But we will never know if a pinball-arcade-type version, released in sync with a real full size game, would drive sales down or up until someone sticks their neck out and tries it.

Anyway. A few pics of this place:

There's plenty of money available from digital sales but they'll have to write their own engine or use something like Unity as base engine, it's a great idea and they should embrace it. I wouldn't ever purchase a "Future Pinball" build though due to that sucking harder than TPA.

I was joking btw everyone I'm not a total gormtard lol.

I'm not sure about the alien queen model tho abit to tiny and flimsy she's ment to be big and menacing after all. Apart from that the alien stuff looks awesome. Am I right he said something about considering be able to buy now pay later soon?.....

Alien cab / artwork looks really cool. So much better than Full Throttle visually. The eggs on top of the bumpers look fantastic with pulsing green LEDs "leaking" through the shell.

The models are well made. Custom jobs.

If this comes off as planned I'm sure it will be a massive hit for Andy and the gang,

Andy said they are on the 2nd whitewood stage

Some serious cash has been sunk into the factory in term of printing equipment etc.

Thanks to everyone who brought machines here for the weekend:clap:

Ive taken the executive decision to not partay today and just go home. There's only 3 machines left I wanted to go on but have been hogged the last 2 days can't see that changing today so I'm offski. Nice to meet some new faces and peeps ive met b4 have a good day guys and gals.

Ps who owns the White water with colour dmd? Lovely looking machine and plays real nice

OK You should have stayed for today Rudi. Less people here today, so able to play most machines without queuing. The Walking Dead that was sitting in it's box all Friday and Saturday has been set up and plays really nicely. Kudos to whoever owns it for allowing the game to be played.

I was gonna pop in for a couple hours today but I got abit bored yesterday. Plus ive got sleep apnea so don't like to drive to late

Personally I think this is more of the size the alien queen should be
