JJP Toy Story 4

I don't see an issue with the toys, it's been going on for years and makes sense financially.
Grogu was just off the shelf no?

That's Stern which makes it different. They set the standard and have the most stringent quality control.

Stern were so unimpressed with their factory made models of Hulk, Captain America & Ironman in AIQ that they threw all of them away and didn't include any toys in the machine whatsoever. Very considerate.

I can't believe that in G&R JJP used actual drumsticks (not chicken) instead of fabricating their own🤬

The very least they could have done was resurrect Michelangelo and employ him to hand-carve each one in the JJP factory.

Quite frankly if I buy TS4, lift up the playfield and don't find the real Tom Hanks living inside I'll kick-off big time.

Was really hoping I wasn't the only one...
Saw that too, but I’m currently invigilating A-levels so didn’t have a chance to find another one! Apologies for crimes against spelling and grammar, especially as it’s actually an English A-level!

Well, last time I was at The Pinball Office (Sunday) they had 4 JJP pins lined up beside other Stern and Bally/Williams, Spooky and American Pinball.
PS They should be ashamed because they dare to be different…

Hope you're not suggesting TPO is a run of the mill arcade Kris! 😉

If you get one, I'd be right there giving it a play, failing that ST, GZ, GB or R&M will suffice.......

Will be getting back soon regardless

Anyone ordered one yet?
No one’s owning up to it if they have I was on for ce but that was for toy story it certainly wasn’t for toy story 4 , oh is this the 4 th toy story pinball they’ve brought out ….NO ask me that again Mutha ******

Absolutely appalling from jjp and a total missed opportunity… I’d say I would of had one but that number 4 on the cabinet just does my cabbage in

No you wouldn't
I meant ‘for little kids who were new to pinball’. I was responding to the videos where they were talking about sparking an lifelong interest in pinball, being family-friendly, and all that jazz.

Of course I’m not a better pinball designer than Pat Lawlor. That goes without saying…

You know what little kids who are new to pinball do when they play (and by this, exclude children of pinball owning parents trying / forcing them to get them into the hobby).

They see a machine, they often having no idea how to start a game. Once they have managed that (and no doubt the game will now be on the maximum player count) they cannot fathom how to launch a ball. If they get this far then the flippers will be treated like a machine gun until the ball drains. Once the ball has drained they will walk away from the machine with player 2 next up and many balls remaining. Then someone will usually come by and power cycle the machine.

Go to any public show with pinball machines there that has been run and you will see this all day long.

To be fair that's not dissimilar to Spencer's playing style.

Punchy the clown. Simpsons Kooky Carnival. Where are they now?

One thing you will be able to rely on, the shots will be smooth as butter. Pat has had plenty of time to get the game dailed in. pardon the pun

This.

Genuinely, I don't think you need anywhere within a light year of the talent of Pat Lawlor to observe that small children in seaside arcades like games with moving cars and dinosaurs and to design, for example, a colourful "Monsters -vs- Monster Trucks" pin with a giant T-Rex mech in the middle of the playfield that ate balls to start multi-ball.

I'm sure it would be total crap, and hated by actual pinball players, but I'm also sure - if the graphic design, music and lighting were good - it would pick up lots of passing trade from little kids visiting the beach.

I'm not saying Pat Lawlor isn't an amazing pinball designer, or that I'm doubtless a crap pinball designer. I'm just saying that he didn't, in fact, have small new-to-pinball children in an arcade setting prominently in mind when he designed this... and, given the theme, it seems a wasted opportunity. As others have said, I think JJP are selling the *dream* of a family experience - not the reality, if that makes sense :)

Well I don't believe it was designed specifically for kids, probably misinterpreted. Family makes sense. Because as we know kids don't buy pinball machines.
I doubt many adults would buy a 10k pin about monster trucks and dinosaurs fighting.

Although I suppose that isn't too far from Godzilla

I remember this at Blackpool Play Expo and it caused me soooo much pain. Rows of machines idling with four players on 😆

Part of the reason I was so impressed with Cactus. Cgc clearly manufactured their toys to fit the game.

The Bat signal and the car on BM66 are both standard cheap toys available from anywhere and as for Mando..... 🤔

That being said I don't really care who made the bat signal or car because they look fine, the game is great and I stick other stuff in it anyway.

I couldn't give a sh1t whether the Little Bo Peep toy was made by JJP, Hasbro, Fisher Price or anyone else If the game is good.

you don’t care that they’ve cut the BOM by about 30% and increased the price by 25% ?

This game was not made for kids. Part of the reason it’s such a poor toy story implemention because Pat is not in the toy story generation - I bet that Eric or the other new guy they got would have done a much better job.

compare godzilla and JP that Keith absolutely got the theme.

toy story is like a pinball machine where they then poured out the theme on it rather than a game built that theme at the heart of it. Knowing Pat I suspect the shots are decent And the game plays ok but it’s like Star Wars in that it isn’t making feel like I’m in the middle of a Star Wars story or a toy story escapade.

Something that mando did superbly well.

Indeed - One Pinfest (Or may have been back when when it was the UKPP) I watched a few people (not just kids to be fair) start 4 player games, get confused and play multiple players without realising what was going on.

I explained the basics to a few people, showed them how a game with more than one player worked - it's easy when you know how it works, but not so obvious if you've just walked in off the street.
I always try to give the pointers to someone however old to ensure they actually have some fun and want to play more games, it's more fun when you understand what is going on to at least some extent.

Toy Story - was never going to my theme, would play it if I saw one in the wild, although that goes for pretty much any pin!
