Garden pinball house?

They did have a space sooner, however didnt expect the concrete to arrive as soon as it did. Word of warning - It sets fast (60-90 mins), so you have limited time to get it all in there - Advise lots of people and start tamping the far side whilst people are still dumping/barrowing concrete... within an hour you could stand on one side and only sink around an inch!

Good things come to those who wait..... ! When a month comes round it'll be up in a day or so though I would imagine. Have spoke to those guys a couple of times and got a better price out of them too the second time round..... Still waiting on other quotes though too before deciding.

Includes delivery and erection... :D May as well get the pros to do it rather than half kill myself and make a mess of it... :D

It's around 20' square - apparently a pool table etc. However he contravenes planning since it's within a meter of the boarder.... ;)

Yeah anything above 15sq metres has to be at least 1m away from boundary unless built from non combustible material.

I would think that around the country there must be 10's probably 100's of thousands of sheds that contravene planning and building regs so just imagine the panic if there was a back garden crackdown by the govt  - Now is the time to get into demolishing and re-building sheds business :)

Look forward to seeing it up and full of pinball machines.
Also hoping to look forward to the invite for the grand opening.

This one has gone quiet... anyone had any movement?? All this nice weather... @JMP ??

Also - one question - Interior Lighting - what do people suggest??
Mine is all sorted I have now made room to fit another pin this will be number 12, with 2 arcade machines, plus all the glass can be removed, I used 2 twin strip lights in mine which are great, plus fitted a solar extractor fan a few weeks back and it keeps the shed a nice temp

"solar Extractor fan" sounds interesting - i was looking to put a Vent Axia in, however this has my attention now - any links?

On the twin strip lights front - just standard florescent??

Good to hear you have lots of room now :D

Ever seen those coke can solar heaters:

Apparently making smaller versions of the one in the pic, digging a hole and burying them can provide cheap air cooling too. Never tried it myself but I do love the cheapo approach.

My lights are twin t8 standard white, with plastic covers ill take a pic, brought the units new from ebay plus the tubes, the extractor was also on ebay ill find the link in a second its designed for boats/caravans looks a bit like a boat porthole

Well I've got a fully cleared space and shallow dig-out with power cable to it..... and nowt much else at moment. Have decided on an outbuilding and all held up by builders now. Had verbal quote that I've accepted for foundation, concrete walls, UPVC DG doors/windows and profile metal roof but I'm looking at at least two months before they can start. Not good for my patience but at least giving me some time to scrape funds together.

I've got another cheap project pin incoming so think I'll be stacking them soon (with the two loaners) for the wait. :(

@Paul, are you not at cabin build stage now? Must be soon if not.

Could do with some serious cooling in my pin-shack! Get's rather hot it here (I use it all day as a home office). I really must finish replacing the 50mm foam insulation on the ceiling with a load of 100m Celotex I was given. Much, much better at reflecting the heat. But some fool has filled all the available space with pinball machines, video games and a pachinko, and has just agreed to buy his third pinball machine. Not sure where it's all going to go as it's only big enough for 3 machines!

Think shed extension/lean to is required :D

Lots of planning going on with mine or if the truth be told I can't make my bloody mind up, no smiley for Arghh so here it is AARRGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH.

A week and the wait is killing me :( Have spend the last few days planning everything... As there's nothing else i can do :( SWA installed, base done, room planned.. even down to the wall coverings... Pfft.. SOOO impatient...

I really must finish replacing the 50mm foam insulation on the ceiling with a load of 100m Celotex I was given.

I think i have enough now... Picked up a few bits here, a few bits there over the last few months... costs bugger all if you pick up leftovers from other peoples jobs..

Oh and make sure @Nedreud you're leaving an airgap behind the celotex... :D

Have also just decided that to keep general running costs down, rather than using a pair of Vent Axia fans, I'm going to Solar feed a couple of fans. Already have the solar panel - Just need a controller a CHEAP leisure battery, and a couple of fans... Mounted at the Apex - sorted :) No bills for cooling in the summer, keeps the ambient temps down, and because of the airflow keeps condensation away....

Two vent axia fans plus electricity for them roll in around £138 for 2 years... This will pay for itself in a year easily :) Plus i can feed other Low voltage stuff If i fancy... (12v)

If anyone's interested i'll put some plans on here later.. It's all @Rus121 's fault... :D

Ok it is nearly all systems go - mini digger should be arriving onsite early next week so @lukewells if @JMP won't let you play with his digger you can come and play with mine ;)

Location sorted but just need to sort out exact size, could be external 6 x 4m or 5.5 x 3.5m depending on what I can squeeze in so the question is guys what are the minimum internal measurements to get the max number of machines in as I might be able to squeeze a few more cms if it means squeezing an extra machine in? I reckon that I could get 7 in a line along the longest length plus then maybe 1 in each of the other two corners, placed at 90 degrees/lengthways to the other row? Or I can maybe get 4 sideways at each end of building, along shortest length, and then would still have space in middle for some more pins or arcade machine or two.

If I get the internal right then I can work out what thickness insulation I can use. i.e. build it around the pins rather than having too little or wasted space of say half a pin.

16ft x 10ft (4.87m x 3.05m) = 7 pins... maybe 8 at a push with not much room...

The thickness of the insulation will really be governed by the depth of the vertical struts. Mine are 3x2, therefore meaning that i have a 3 inch depth - 2 inches insulation and then a 1 inch Air gap behind which is required to stop moisture issues (and is useful for cable runs!!) :)...

Sorry should have said that I'm going to have it block built as will be close to a boundary and exceeds the 15sq m allowed by govt/planning, hence why I might be able to adjust sizes slightly

Two options on build, I either go for double block with cavity/insulation or single block with lathes and then insulation fixed to lathes, leaving a gap behind, and then possibly plywood finish.

Double block with cavity too expensive so looks like option two.

I'm going for single block Steve with PVC cladding or timber on outside (for aesthetics) and air gap then timber frame/ply and insulation internally.

To get pins opposite, end to end, with space in the middle for two persons playing, I've calculated you need at least 4.2M internal width on the building. With 6.4m internal length (similar to you), you can get 8 in a row on the back wall and 3 each side of a central double entrance door with an adequate amount of space between machines.

16ft x 10ft is just within Regs.... ;)

Yes 16' x 12' will be approx 4.92 x 3.08M so within regs however looking around how many people really comply with them as quite a few on here are close to boundary and over 15sq m

So blocks it is and can then go up to 30sq m if I had the space.

I've had same thoughts Steve, in fact neighbour has already said they're not bothered about any of the guidelines, but always the risk we get new neighbours in future or fall out with the existing ones !

You should fit a lot more pins with a 4.2m width..... and you're already -4. ;)

It doesn't take much to upset neighbours so agree better to be safe than sorry however suspect that not everybody knows max sizes for outbuildings, distances from boundary, material, etc.

4.2 internal might just be pushing it too much as would then encroach too far over the garden and would incur the wrath of er indoors :)

Single block seems to be best option. I'm going for single block and then going to weatherproof outside with masonry paint with some strategically placed trellis/plants/pots and then on the inside put roofing battens/lath's spaced out vertically and then fix kinsgpan/celotex to the lath's and then face with sheets of ply.

Wow 14 in that space is amazing

You could always tell her the builders didn't follow your plans properly. :D

You sure just masonry paint on blockwork will keep the water out? They're porous.... Reckon cement render, PVC cladding or similar is needed really.
