Energy prices - gone nuts.

I remembered I was supposed to change my Economy 7 to standard variable at the end of last month. Logged in to do it today (British Gas) and they aren't giving the option of changing tariffs. Logged into Compare the Market and they aren't comparing energy tariffs or dealing with them at all currently. Oh ****!
Or keep it, get any off grid storage you can and charge up battery off-peak.

Setting aside the ferocious cost of kerosene, there will now be a raft of thefts of the damned stuff.

I think we have all had a pretty good run, but that is over. Was talking to my 90 year old relatives about it.

They grew up with the luftwaffe, so saw things get better decade after decade. But most of us are looking down the other end of the telescope unfortunately.

Winter is coming.

Silver lining ? Maybe pinballs will.get cheaper

Always amuses me that the people who seem to hope more than anyone else that pinballs get cheaper are .....people who own loads of pinballs !
Seriously , any of us into this hobby are lucky to be wealthy enough to ride this out . There will be millions who simply won't be able to make ends meet and that's very worrying indeed

If it carries on like this I'll be ditching a pin.
They are profiteering and quite frankly taking the pi55.
Heating now on for 1hr a day.
Cutting up and burning pallets in the log burner.
Elderly relatives getting really concerned.
There'll be trouble if this isn't got under control

There are worse things to do right now than buying a used solid fuel stove from ebay.

They are low cost. Stone age tech. The ones with doors on are very efficient. I have not looked for a while but folk tell me that coal has barely moved in price for years

I think I may pop down to Asda tomorrow and empty the coal pallet at £4 for a 10kg bag

Yeah I have some trunks that I didn't get around to chopping up. They probably won't be dry enough this year anyway. I'm now a lot more tempted to offer to dispose a huge tree that came down in the storm a couple of doors away... but that's a big job!C31515E9-E698-4A47-946D-15920D82DB34.jpeg

Hire a log splitter. Not that big a job really if you are happy using a chainsaw

I've got a couple of chainsaws but that tree is actually a lot bigger than it looks in the pic. Even my big Stihl would need a longer bar on it I reckon. What worries me is it pinching the bar as it goes past the halfway mark and how the tree is going to drop. I've never cut up anything close to that width.

I always start by just tidying it up, take off the weight I can easily see like those big branches. Then I stare at the main trunk for a bit until a safe plan forms. Easier to see with the large branches out the way.

The Ruskies have been playing the long game on this one. Working with the eco types to ensure dependence on Russian gas ...

"Russia 'secretly working with environmentalists to oppose fracking' | Environment | The Guardian" https://amp.theguardian.com/environ...ing-with-environmentalists-to-oppose-fracking
That is a good example of the Russian Dezinformatsiya machine. They don't care if the Eco's are right, or the other side is, they care about an outcome, it might be simple like we buy their gas but that is likely only one part of a larger series of negotiations. I never assume their intended outcome is the the one I can see, as their long game hasn't played out yet.

The other half of the tree is in the next garden and all of that is unusable evergreen and needs taking to the tip which puts me off. I would love the trunk but it's one of those things where the amount of hassle, danger and effort doesn't seem to make it worthwhile.

And we are a long way away from bonfire night to get rid of the rubbish

I have the A55 going right past the end of my garden so can't really risk sending a smokescreen of damp evergreen over it. Not that the neighbours don't

A month ago I was resigned to the prospect of shelling out around £6K this year on energy (not including fuel for the log burner and chimney sweeping etc)..... and now with the Russia thing I guess that could easily be £10K or more!?!

To be honest I'm worried about food prices more than anything. With all of these factors combined I'm going to either need to stop splurging money like a maniac on whatever takes my fancy, or work harder on my revenue streams. I definitely feel bad for people who don't have the spending power of the average forum member. I think things could get pretty bad. I read something a while ago about a return to serfdom, and honestly that doesn't seem that far fetched.

Thats why you can cut from the bottom up.... especially on large items like that... Just a little care needed on Kickback... Cut 1/3rd of the way through from the top, then cut up from the bottom around 3-4" offset (1" for a small one).. you are right tho.. may need a longer bar...

Here you go. All heating problems solved, just pick up a Space Jam. (Our newer members are probably going to be horrified🤣)
That was so much fun 😁That’s how the Slam team rolled 😂 I think @Matt Adams cracked a rib in the process !
