In this case, if we can trust the sellers description, they have done some work on the machine and are now selling it at a price that includes their profit/pay for the work they did. I am all for highlighting when something is fishy or damaging our hobby but I think bringing shopping a machine and selling it on is a fair game. Given the hours he spent, plus any part prices, it sounds like a low day rate in my book.
If we know someone is a shamster, or they just wipe it over with a dirty rag, then lets call them on it but otherwise lets give a straight up reason for calling out someone or this forum could become just as damaging to our hobby (and newbies) as anything else.

So he's cleaned the playfield, put some new star posts and rubber on and that's a £400 a day job? Infact I would think it's a £400 a (I've finished early at about 2pm) job.

I was thinking about that..... maybe a group buy from the states? Almost all the screws/bolts are standard and much cheaper by the 1000.

I could only imagine the nightmare trying to find a good all round package that everyone would be happy with but yeah that's a great idea.

Nothing to rare in that box of screws.

It's just a shame that pinball machines got broke up to make up a box of screws.

R.I.P. Billy/Williams games that once gave so much pleasure.

It's a sad story.

Which ones are a b*tch to find??

Anything listed here???.... http://www.pinrestore.com/Hardware.html

I don't mind another pinrestore order - they were great to deal with last time :)

I can find them all, just not at a good enough price.

Someone's on crack... With PF wear, boards replaced/missing/re-supplied/not fitted etc sounds like a bag of nails to me...

Everyman and his dog seems to think that ALL TaFs are worth a fortune. I recently went to see the worst condition TaF in the UK for a friend (in Redcar). His words;

"Well they go for 5-6 grand on ebay so I tell you what, just give me £4000 for this one to make it a fair deal"

I didn't utter a single response to him other than a very loud laugh. One which I continued as I turned around (still laughing) and left his home. The slam of the door behind me said it all. A good day.

Amazing. I must remember that trick next time I need to flog something that doesn't work. Remove faulty component and then just say in the write-up that it's been repaired but you didn't have time to fit it back in but the it's okay as it still works without it! To me, that just tells me they didn't really care much about the machine and therefore the rest of the general care and maintenance is going to be just as well done, i.e., not at all.

Reducing the write-up to a list of issues:
  • Cabinet damage
  • Scratched playfield glass
  • Jammed/rusted leg levellers
  • Faulty SWAMP
  • Faulty and worn THING
  • Kick-out hole wear to CHAIR and SWAMP (Cliffy's required)
  • Faulty BOOKCASE
  • Broken "rear playfield moulding"
  • Worn MANSION area (why else would he have a decal set?)
  • Missing (faulty?) tilt mech
  • Unclear payment instructions (is PayPal accepted) and contradictory statement about delivery
  • Broken plastic top glass channel
  • Sh*tty leg bolts
I'm not guru on TAF prices but that is a lengthy and significant list of problem that ain't gonna be cheap to fix, especially considering the asking price.

Sadly, some poor sap will end up mugging himself...

Need to see Phil Dixon.

Yeah, I caught his message on the yahoo group. Certainly a VERY interesting prospect. These currently overpriced add-ons will be in all pinheads thoughts when they can be brought down to a mere £75.

The guy selling that knackered Addams Family must be related to the bloke who kept trying to hawk his knackered DESW at the £2800 mark. I mean even in minty condition he'd get nowhere near that but he made a point of listing all the stuff which was busted on it.

I guess we have to credit him at least for being honest about how knackered it was.

Theres just too many TaFs in the world to keep demanding the sky high prices for them imo.
