Dutch Pinball Exclusive

The more you look at it the more it fits on location in Dutch coffee shops / red light district. People have always tried to compare the story with acid / fly agarics.

There were many pins in the shops over there in the late 90s I have no idea about nowadays.

i used to work in The Netherlands for a few years coming and going. i was a pinhead at the time so i made a map. i think over 70% of my locations were coffeeshops, this would have been around 2015-16 i think

Sex sells… Can definitely tell this is a hobby with a high sausage count.

I saw the complaints about the artwork. But it kinda fits in with the general retro feel. Loads of pins from the 60s/70s/80s/90s have ladies posed alluringly on the backglass.

My problem is the theme doesn’t make much sense. There are two attractive, similarly dressed women as antagonist/protagonist. They could be sisters.

The whole idea was Alice was a curious little girl exploring a world that got curiousier and curiouser, and the various Queens were adult women. If Alice is a grown up with a sword, then the Queen should be a monster worth slaying. What’s the conflict, otherwise? Alice fell down the rabbit hole and got into a fight with the Queen of Hearts over whether a flamingo ate her bra? Certainly puts a different complexion over which ‘tart’ the Knave of Hearts stole…

It looks more like Snow White:

She has better knee socks, it is true, but my dress is pink and hers is blue!

As others have written, I would have hoped for an unlicensed American McGee’s Alice ripoff. Because you can’t get more 90s than an unlicensed version of a licensed theme.

I think it looks beautiful. The art, sculpts and overall direction is stunning,(ignoring all the boobies😄)

The plastic ramps remind me of other jpop games, even down to the metal end stops, ala WCS and TOM.

The callouts and music in the trailer aren't very good, reminds me of the sleepy music of Labyrinth.
Gameplay will be key, but I can't see that upper playfield being worth the space it's taking up. If it had proper flippers, even smaller ones maybe. But the magnets, that's a novelty we saw in TZ which only just works there, it soon wears off and you're not able to aim like you can with real flippers so it seems like a waste.

But the memberberries… :eek: It’s that *thing* that reminds you of that other *thing* that you once enjoyed…

Here in the grim darkness of present day 2024, it doesn’t *need* to be fun, or playable…

The idea isn’t to *play* this. It’s designed to sit in your pinroom, reminding you of how much fun you were having in the 90s, when you were young and single, life was free and easy, and you had hair and a motorbike. And, one day, you walked into your local arcade and there was a shiny new TZ…

If you’re actually having fun playing pins in 2024, you’re going to be like “why is half of the upper part of the playfield covered by a feature that was only fun on TZ because it was novel and much smaller, and part of an overall packed design.”

Playfield art is top notch, not much of a fan of the cab/backbox art. Would have preferred a more darker twist on Alice. No one seems to be talking about the call outs. Am I the only one who thinks the Mad Hatter voice delivery fell flat?

You compare Merlin for instance from MM with this and the game starts to sound like Super Hoops.

Just software that , as ant says they are aware and on with it ! No worse than xmens call-outs

The difference is that Elvira’s entire shtick was innuendo and yes, overt cleavage at almost all times. So if you have an Elvira-themed pin then you expect it to be like that (though I do think EHOH as a theme is somewhat out of step with the time it was released).

I don’t know who was looking for this from this theme, just a bit grubby and unnecessary IMO
 
Honestly if it wasn't for the fact I've already bought an X-Men premium and Labryinth. I'd of gone for this game. I really like JPOP games and this one would be a no brainer.

The limited run and small batch of games coming to the UK likely means I'll have to import from Europe, years down the line.

Yeah, in the 80's & 90's boobs in the mainstream media were non existent (your soaraway Sun, News of the World and Daily Sport)
Music and call outs a bit iffy? - When they actually ship them in 2026 this may have improved somewhat
