Clearly Pinball Info doesn't support UK Pinball Businesses

Well this is a sad end to the thread. Personally I'm strongly of the conviction that Tilt/Kirk has done about as much for the UK community as anyone else out there, and as he's pointed out it's not like dedicating that much room to pins is printing cash or anything especially after the events of the last 15 months.

The sheer fact that there's somewhere so publicly accessible to play the new machines when they land over here has contributed massively to the discussion on the forum over the past few years - lot's of posts beginning 'I finally got to play this at Tilt today' and I can attest to the fact that he's always been up for adding a few credits and playing some games with members too. Then there's the fact that I've heard him recommending this site to people who have discovered (or rediscovered) pinball by chance when visiting. He's a great ambassador for the pinball scene over here.

Have to say that I think the above is a much bigger contribution than a £10 donation could ever begin to cover and it's a real shame it's ended up this way.

Very true but there's a very long list of other Pinheads who have also contributed so much.

That doesn’t mean he shouldn’t have to contribute just like everyone else. He’s made plenty of money off the back of this forum he’s just a tight **** who’s got on his high horse

It's a subtle thing. Sites like this don't generate any profit, they're pure costs - labours of love. The bills don't get paid through increased traffic - if anything that just increases costs!

Hence why it makes sense to me the donation requirement is on anything that you can stand to make money off of.

Need to turn my own name yellow soon, actually - covid completely deleted all access I had to pinball, so I've been absolutely Not Here lately. Hopefully that's the bulk of that all done with for good now...

...can't resist an open goal just left like that...
Sure they weren't yours? Ideal time for a bit of private discovery and experimentation, whilst all the doors are closed, after all.

Well, one positive thing from his thread is its reminded me my subscription has expired! oops, so i will renew shortly. As most people say for us uk businesses its just a business expense and i normally set it at £20 default to try and help out.

I do feel for any uk business right now with all the hassle , extra paperwork, delays, reduction of parts access /supply and red tape from brexit compounding the horrible covid situation so hang in there mate (@Tilt_Birmingham). Things will work out

A few (friendly) comments about the subscription form my end that i have mentioned before.

1) Add a reminder for us hectic/not enough hours in the day pinball businesses when the subscription is about to expire so we can easily renew/ or make it a years PayPal auto renew thing where the user sets the level
2) I wish there was a reward for posting and helping people from a technical level
3) I wish there was a way to pay more 'subscription fees' in one year to cover other years if for example the unexpected happens.

Finally, peace and love to all pinheads on here :)

Has anyone ever discussed the idea of a Patreon account?

Could have:

Tier 1:
A basic tier (£10 a year) to post wanted/for sale ads

Tier 2:
A monthly subscription provding monthly benefits which suppliers in the UK Pinball industry get a share of the funds as well as Paul to maintain the site.
- This could provide benefits such as Free shipping (up to a certain value)
- Pin related merch (Key Chains etc)
- Invites to tournaments etc
- Any other benefits companies such as Pinball Bazaar, Pinball Heaven, Pinball Mania etc can come up with/agree to

Tier 3:
An annual subscription consisting of the same benefits as a monthly subscription, but a slighlty discounted price?

The suppliers who sign up to the Patreon model automatically gain 'Site supporter' access and can then freely advertise their wares.

Seems win/win to me. Would also avoid these issues in the future.

I realise it would take some setup and agreement with all parties involved but would provide a re-ocurring revenue stream. You can even setup stretch goals to say as long as X amount of people sign up to Tier2/3 we can then provide the following benefits.

Just a thought.

Hey Scott - that does sound over complex to me. Do not forget anyone can donate more if they wish.
My solution - just charge everyone.
Okay the site has a lot of members that dont contribute in any way - we would loose them off the numbers but I seriously see very few on here that do not have 'site supporter' on here.

Do Pinside charge for selling ? I am not active on that site as this one has enough drama of coronation street and eastenders put together.

Yeah pinside charge quite a lot to sell

I don't think this is a good solution. Most likely I wouldn't have joined the site if it was behind a paywall.

"The first dose is free" is a better model to attract people. Just my opinion.
Speaking as someone new to the forum, I wouldn’t have joined if immediately I had to pay, I had no idea what would be here. Although I havent sold anything here yet and only have a vpin atm I knew I was probably going to have several noob questions and after a few weeks lurking paid the £10 to support the site. I also selfishly thought people might be more inclined to answer any questions I had if they saw I had made a donation.

“First dose for free” works if people don’t sign up with a different email address every time they have a new question. Or use a vpn if ip’s are monitored.

Maybe a better idea would be view only for non supporters? I don’t know if it’s necessarily needed but then it’s clear, to post at all or dm anyone, make a donation. Just want to lurk and read other people posts? Can do that for free. Just an idea.

It felt like it wasn’t just about £10 but a perception that this forum made money and Paul was profiting. Kirk didn’t want to give Paul £10 due to a misconception of how much the donations make.
Paul often has to put in more to cover costs and future subs pays him back if they are available.

Either way, there are consequence when someone feels they are entitled to the service but do not want to pay for it.
Things are set up very simply here because this is not about being a profitable business. There are not paid staff to manage those process. We do take suggestions and improvements and talk about them but they have to fit the simple run it model.

Hey i’m late to the party. i missed all this.

I missed it all because i had my head in a pinball all day and all night.

Well actually that’s a bit of a lie. I had my head in a pinball all day and then my partners sons fiancée arrived with 3 of her nurse mates and proceeded to get very drunk in my hot tub, so i sat and watched. I must say 4 ICU nurses can’t half put away the booze. 5 bottles of prosecco, 1l of pimms, about 0.5l of gin and rum and a bottle of pink champagne.

In the spirit of giving all members of the pinball community something to focus on to get reunited, here’s a few pics of the evening:

I started to imagine this scenario playing out at Alan’s place?!
And this quickly became my favourite ever pinballinfo post!.............😍🤣
(Notice Alan had not put an ending to this tale of fantasy, or is it real...oh whatever.........need to get control over my imagination .........).........

Oh I know it doesn’t count for anything, but I love Paul and I love Kirk, but I don’t like his t-shirts........
Keef.
EDIT: crumbs! It was real.......😯

I really enjoy this site. I also like visiting Tilt, I'm probably what would be known as a 'non contributing member of the forum. I have no technical expertise, I don't own lots of machines that I take to events ( I don't even own one).
I'm just someone that loves playing pinball. I've bought some Tilt masks and a t shirt in the past, and also donate to this site (this post reminded me my previous donation had lapsed - now rectified). I haven't put up a sale post, but I'm happy to donate because I find this forum really helpful, informative etc.
Living in Cambridgeshire I rely on places like Tilt, Electric Circus etc to get my pinball fix, as there is nowhere near me with pins. Here's hoping this has all been a communication problem/mix up and things can go forward in a positive way, and all pinball related endeavours continue to flourish.

There are a few of us in Cambs ;) Pity Swavesey was cancelled as that would've been a good place to meet!

I own a chalet at the coast in Norfolk ( no I don’t let it out) and belong to the site chalet owners association. My annual fixed subs are £10 and for this I get two emails per year basically telling me nothing so a £10 donation to pin info for all the help/sales/dramas etc is in my opinion worth every penny.
