Clearly Pinball Info doesn't support UK Pinball Businesses

A controversial thread and yet @Neil McRae is not involved.........Wow!

My 10 cents (for what it’s worth) is that I cannot believe this thread is over £10. Apart from cars, boats and watches, I cannot think of many more expensive hobbies, so £10 a year to access this forum seems very fair.

Jay from Scorbit should be asked to chip into the site - https://www.pinballinfo.com/community/threads/scorbit-bulk-order.48976/page-8#post-407071. He had some pretty nice orders and should really put at least a tenner in.

Also - the guy who makes the WPC tester - https://www.pinballinfo.com/communi...d-tester-wpciri-tester-group-buy-closed.48862. He has had quite a few orders.

Both the above are seen as 'heroes' on here but they do this to make money. As I do when I buy, refurb/service and sell on a game. But I do not mind chucking in a few quid per machine (which I have not done for the last couple of games but will do that now!).

I do not think we should have a rule for one and not a rule for everyone.

I know this remark will get a lot of peoples back up - but I would be happier if everyone just pays £10 a year, it is either that or be flooded with advertising (like on facebook!).

Just my 2 cents.

They were group buys but I get what you're saying

Get it - however there's a difference....

WE wanted something and WE approached THEM in the hope to get a better rate.... they responded and WE (The users) got the benefit of that (all be it Via someone on this forum lining up and sorting out the logistics - which is very much appreciated to those that do!).
The WPC tester is a classic - the guy REALLY didnt want to make and ship them to us - it took a lot of convincing from @Calimori to persuade him to do so - he doesnt manufacture these on the same scales as scorbit... There's probably no more than a couple of dozen of these in existance!

In this case, someone came on here and wanted to sell - therefore they fall under the same banner as everyone wanting to "SELL" something. It's a downright insult to those people who have paid their money to just leave it be.

Interestingly, Had Kirk come to me and asked if he could do it, i would possibly have agreed (as i have done so in some special circumstances in the past). To assume and just do it - and then claim he didnt know the rules he signed up to is blatantly taking the ****, and putting two fingers up to those that have paid.

Yeah - but when the maker of both products chips in on here and generates more sales, I think they should be asked for a tiny donation. Like the guy who sold LOADS on pin2dmd's on here a few years ago pinballsp.

Hope you and the family are well Nick :)

I am not putting this as an argument Kirk vs Scorbit/WPCtester. I was using them as examples and in my mind they should put something in. That is my take on it. I am just putting my opinion across, which at the end of the day - is for the good of the group.

For the sake of £10 a year I really think EVERYONE should just pay that. Which I have said before.

Get a grip

Me posting my thread was far from putting two fingers up those who had paid... I did it without malice or ill will unlike your handling of it

Your getting rather aggressive when someone like @Pick Holder has made a genuine point

To be honest I'd rather donate £10 to charity then to you after this name a charity and its done and the Bank of Paul doesn't count

Thanks Kirk. Had enough of you spouting nonsence. Banned. Hope thats clear enough for you.

I know Phil well, and we do enjoy a good discussion (At least i hope he feels the same after that comment!) :D

Let apply some sense here. Group buys take a massive amount of effort and spread the benefits to whoever joins them.
If we then want to insist on a donation to be able to sell that would need to come from the group getting the benefits. Not the company or person who we buy from as why would they want to be involved in that?
To me, group buys are a benefit of being a member of a forum.

Actually it’s a really sad day @Neil McRae

The arcade collecting community split and nearly ate itself. It would be a crying shame if pinball went the same way.

I’ve met lifetime friends through pinball and people have been so incredibly generous to me in so many ways. Tragically, as a society, we’ve lost the ability to disagree.

Covid has pushed many of us to the very limits mentally and financially. This pressure can manifest in often unhelpful ways. Combine this with the tribalism from the referendum years and it’s a tinder box where we are all on edge and fall out over often insignificant matters.

I hope Paul and Kirk work things out at some point. I don’t think I’ve met either of you, but am grateful to you both for what you’ve done for the community.

Kirk is always the first to demand people getting banned. Ironic. It's like 10,000 spoons.

Same here - I have real friends in this hobby, some i have met, others i havent. all of whom i respect for what they have done, are doing, or just being generally awesome people.
Lots of us have strong beliefs.. however we learn to respect those that have those beliefs. None of it is lies, unfounded accusations, or dragging things up for the sake of it - we can all have (sometimes heated) discussions without thinking the others are "sticking the knife in".

Covid has has some awful consequences. I know people - some that i work with - who have lost multiple members of their family.... in fact i was chatting to a member of my team today who said he lost another relative last week... he has lost 3 people close to him to Covid now.
It's not just the immediate consequences though. It's the mental torment of being locked up for months on end. It's the not being able to see members of our family who we normally see Daily/Weekly.

However as we have seen over the last months here - there have been a number of times where things have boiled over. This is VERY unusual going back in forum history. As an admin we try to make allowances, however this is getting more and more difficult... how far do you let things go before they kick off again?

I wish things hadnt turned out the way they did.... however they did... and there's not much i can say about that. I'm FAR from anything special. Normal guy on a normal Salary, Working a Normal (Stressful) Job. As i have said many many times before, All i do is facilitate. It's the members of this place that offer invaluble support and advice - and that make it the place that it is.

I work not too far from Kirks Bar. All i can say is that i was planning to go there reguarly (weekly in fact!) after lockdown was clear... I wont be any more.

I was falling asleep 😴 after a hard day but this woke me up, thanks 🙏.
10 dollars??? Tighter than a nuns chuff... lol

Urgh. A bit sour for a businessowner to not acknowledge another businessowner's expenses.

Forums aren't the cheapest thing you can host online. Even if (somehow) you scrubbed all material costs and bandwidth costs off - let's say you're getting a free ride off of the spare band from a bigger project's line rental, and you dumpster dive all of the hardware and it all miraculously works perfectly... even then you still have an utterly thankless job administering it and keeping it useful by keeping out the spam and keeping behaviour in line, and that's not an optional job because the forum and community around it just flat-out dies if left to fester as a lawless wasteland.

This thread itself is a sound, sound demonstration of the 'thankless' part of that whole thing...

...and of course in reality, the material costs aren't free either.

It’s 2am and I can’t sleep, why can’t I sleep because the chemo I’m on is not working and I’m uncomfortable so I turn to this site for the latest news.
It’s the best £10 I’ve ever spent.
My mate used to say me “the only thing that scares me about dying is having a tenner in my pocket”
Always made me smile 😃

Sorry to hear that. Night or day there's usually some of us nutters here. Some more nuts than others mind you....

Keep well, Mr. Happypin.

Hey i’m late to the party. i missed all this.

I missed it all because i had my head in a pinball all day and all night.

Well actually that’s a bit of a lie. I had my head in a pinball all day and then my partners sons fiancée arrived with 3 of her nurse mates and proceeded to get very drunk in my hot tub, so i sat and watched. I must say 4 ICU nurses can’t half put away the booze. 5 bottles of prosecco, 1l of pimms, about 0.5l of gin and rum and a bottle of pink champagne.

In the spirit of giving all members of the pinball community something to focus on to get reunited, here’s a few pics of the evening:
