Your Dream Pinball Theme?

david lynch' s stuff- eraserhead, Twin peaks, The elephant man, blue velvet, mulholland Drive, etc. if you have never watched Eraserhead, then you haven't lived, died and lived to tell the tale. That guys mind is well warped.

DOOM

....or an updated and more interesting Flash Gordon

.........or a bit more niche; An ABC Warriors pinball machine with artwork by Simon Bisley. There's loads of stuff in the Rebellion owned 2000AD back catalogue that would make a nice pin.

Phantasm also seems a perfect theme for a pin with those flying balls.

WTF!!

A more interesting Flash Gordon?! It’s one of the best games ever!

Those older games without a DMD and fifty million modes just don't get the play time from people nowadays - goes triple if it's a mean sod of a game in terms of difficulty as well; no matter how good it is.

You just can't teach taste.

That would be excellent, but would be a hard sell nowadays I fear. In the context of today's society it's aged like spoiled milk - it would be as hard to route nowadays as a Playboy cabinet.
It would have to be done subtly... Which would be tough lol. There is still quite a large cult following for it

Dunno about that; those games are pretty busy at FlipOut.

'Subtle' and 'Rocky Horror'... not seeing it. If the game doesn't have a Sweet Transvestite mode with the full song, it'll be missing something. There's only so far Time Warp could carry it!

Fair - maybe more universally true would be to swap out 'play time' with 'pin-head appeal'.

In actual arcades it seems to be much more about arcade layout than anything. Had some very interesting conversations with people at Arcade Club, where they're working out the art form. They have some of the more obscure Japanese music games (utterly impenetrable amounts of written Japanese in those) where they will do absolutely gangbusters when set in certain physical locations in the arcade, but will never get a single play for a week when in others.

Pinball is going to be no different.

I would actually take this, and raise you one of the best films of all time....

He’ll yes, it’s a class film with some class lines:-

Mayor Carmine De Pasto : If you want this year's homecoming parade in my town, you have to pay for it.
Dean Vernon Wormer : Carmine, I don't think it's right that you should extort money from the college.
Mayor Carmine De Pasto : Look, these parades you throw are very expensive. You using my police, my sanitation people, and my Oldsmobiles free of charge. So, if you mention extortion again, I'll have your legs broken. 😂😂😃

Excuse me! Cheeky sods. I have non-DMD games. Well, one anyway (Champ '82) and my other games are notoriously hard (TWD, BSD). But anyway, back to Flash Gordon......there are so many awesome opportunities for a new updated machine! You've got to race against time to stop the wedding. I imagine a moving upper playfield based on the spiked fight platform. Wood Beast Skill Shot. Football Fight scene recreated with lit jackpot shots. And of course Brian Blessed and the Wingmen in there with that big battle in the sky. A healthy dose of Oberheim OB-X. There is so much more that could be done with that theme. The older machine may have it's positives but to say it doesn't deserve a more modern update is an insult to humanity.

Oh heck yes. I'm not sure the appeal is there for me these days without Lucy in the Sky. Diamonds etc. But I can see where you're coming from.

Sgt Bilko themed black and white EM with score reels but Phil Silvers call outs, also gratuitous portrayal of smoking Camels 🚬 (cigarette holder optional)

Ain't ever going to happen. I've worked on a lot of Bond video games. A certain elderly actress charges £2,000,000 for about a days worth of voice-over. So umm no.

Couldn’t they just avoid using her? SEGA managed to make Goldeneye with Audio from the movie. Pearce Brosnan, Judi Dench etc

One of those IS the elderly actress 😂 Clue...she isn't Irish. Or a man.
