UKCS

I thought it was meant to move around surely it should be up north or in the Midlands this year?
That was my intention when I was coordinator, and it did indeed move around, David Dutton's, SWL, EC, PBR.

However, I'm no longer coordinator. I'm sure it'll be a great event, but a shame it means a long journey and hotel stay for the same people again.

So where would you have had it?

Apart from Tilt and PBR who can comfortably host 64 people?

Other the UK Open... Tilt was the only place in the UK to host more the 50 people for a single event in the 2024

Are the positions judged by Ifpa ranking ?
It's based on a total of all of your UK based wpprs earned from this calendar year Tony

You can find the rankings here

The top 64 who want to/are able to attend will make up the field of players. Matt has sent out emails to some players, I'm guessing once he has had responses he will continue emailing people

I think why not, it adds something extra for nothing (well, a bit of admin and £1 per player) and for those who are more competitive at Medway they will be earning wppr's towards the UKCS. I would imagine it will only need about 20 total wppr's to qualify for the finals this year perhaps, but that's a complete guess

We have started having competitive pinball on Tuesday nights, and wondering if worth going the ifpa route in the future if it is popular

I agree with @roadshow16 - it can't hurt to grow the number of uk competitive players. They will get ifpa points and a uk/world ranking which some people really enjoy, and sometimes encourages them to play even more and try new events. You may end up creating the next @Taxiturn, @Lickashot or @DeadPin though - I will leave you and others to decide if this is a good thing or not ;)

Let me start by saying that I'm really glad people are excited by the format, it was something I was very keen to try when taking over the role. This in turn made PBR the only ready to go place due to the need for 48 games covering 3 different era's. I do intend to move the finals around and hopefully others will put themselves forward to host in future (even if the format has to change slightly). As for the date, I did my best but unfortunately I was never going to please everyone. The London & SE meet will be pushed back a week (this is at my house).

I have begun the process of contacting the highest ranked players and do expect to go way down the list to fill all 64 spaces. Once the standings are finalised this process will push on at a pace.

I hope that answers some of your questions

Matt

@Jackpot Maybe within the next 3 years I could be at a better standard to qualify for this tournament

You could make it next year Dean, rightly or not qualifying is as much about playing often and being at the right tournaments as it is about being good. If you turn up to the UK Open and Pinfest alone and come middle of the pack in all tournaments then you’d probably be there or thereabouts once they’ve gone down the list.

Then whatever other points you earn during the year just jump you up the queue, and if you make a couple of finals in decent-sized local tournaments you won’t be far off qualifying outright.

Maybe I can make that my 2025 pinball goal then 🤔

You might be surprised - I was when I saw I was ranked 98th. I hadn't consciously entered any UKCs comps, so suspect it's just Pinfest & the UK Open (20th & 83rd respectively from memory); don't know what weight they each carried, but there are several other events to add points.

All UK events count towards UKCS quali - but the UK Open (in particular) and Pinfest are the most telling because of the huge number of WPPRs available

It was different last year, there was only one included event per venue I think, seems to be more events counted this year.
That is correct. I chose to include all events this year as i wanted to encourage attendance at all events rather than a select few.

I have had feedback from some that like this and others that would prefer only certain events count.

I would be very grateful for people to share there thoughts/feedback for consideration of next years qualifying? My current thought is to add a minimum number of comps to gain entry (so as to avoid so many qualifying for only attending the UK Open).

I think all events should count as you will instantly alienate groups within the community

But I think maybe you need to attend 6 events to qualify

I do think it is unfair that foreign players are allowed to come the UKSC after qualifying from only UK Open...

They are only coming cause it will be a easier route to IFPA World Championship - I think the space should only be allowed to go to a UK player... I will probably not play in the UKCS if this is the case

I like all events counting - it’s not perfect as it favours those who have easy access to major tournament venues or the means to travel to them, but it’s better than having “two tiers” and avoids the inevitable politics around deciding which events count.

Would also be in favour of a (say) five event minimum, at that level that would include all of the British players currently in the top 100 of the standings (and a six event minimum as Kirk suggested would only exclude one UK person in that range). Reduces your admin, if anything.
