The price of pinball in 2022

Just had 5 minutes peace so decided to skim eBay , what a joke , hook listed for 5k a space invaders arcade / in a ****ty cab 3.9 honestly this is just **** and it’s turning into a joke. I feel sorry for the sellers imagine being that much of a prick to ask those prices , ducking gouging left right n Center , honest this hobby is rotting in front of our eyes

After all the hassle you had with Family Guy I'm just pleased that you're happy.

Play your machines, swap them around a bit/trade-up where necessary and enjoy yourself.
Cheers mate, we're very happy with our 3 pin lineup. Regardless of the forums opinion, as someone who's had a tumour the size of a cricket ball removed from their head and has 2 more still growing there I'm smiling with my uncool unfashionable pins ;)

It's pretty poor on da-Bay, definitely. It's despiration days anything close to worth being having is pounced on as there's nothing else. I'm going to propose a tax on pinball ownership! They'll be flooding on!

I don't see prices going down any time soon, the same goes for the classic car market. As with everything there is usually a 30 year mark when prices soar, hence what I assume why 90s B/W machines are on an all time high that with the fact they are considered the golden age by most (also lockdown boredom and people wanting to spend money). You can see the likes and trends with classic car prices, currently 90s Japanese cars are through the roof, 30 years on, the Gran Turismo generation have more money and want to rekindle their youth; I know as I nearly picked up an R33 GTR for sub 15k back in 2019 and now they're around 45k.

I've been meaning to get into the hobby for a while even at the age of nearly 22, but with sitting by the sidelines since around 2005 (thanks dad @carl lawrence ) but I would really need big pockets to spend what is essentially a used car price on a big toy Granted I can't talk much since dumping money into a 1979 MK2 Escort and 1994 Eunos Roadster . Still on the hunt for a Swords of Fury and a Medieval Madness though and seeing the prices rise since 2010+, the latter you can no longer pick up under £5000 if I tried and I have considered going on a European roadtrip. I bet there might be a deal out there on some beat up players machine though, the dream will continue.

Instead these days going to a barcade/arcade club/tilt/chief coffee and picking up a jamma arcade candy cab seems much more viable to my young eyes but thats just me. So for me unless some deal comes across thats too good not to refuse I'm pretty much out

On a side note I'll just blame wez as the reason the pinball prices are rising and its all @carl lawrence fault for selling him Last Action Hero, but at least we still have his £650 Diner from 2012

There was sone great bargains at TPF I’ve bought 2 games just need to get them home!

Some of the UKVac lot have regular shared containers coming over from the US
CoinOpKing has containers. I was told import costs were about £300 per machine plus 20% of the value of the game.

This means that the dollar price is about the same price landed (excluding delivery door-to-door at either end).

So, a $5,000 Black Hole would be £5,000.

I’ll airfreight it probably cost as much as the machines but I’m lazy/inpatient.

What's the power situation? Do you have to put a transformer in?

Maybe with the Gottlieb machine, which I think actually has two fitted. One of which I heard isn't suitable for the u.k. But the Stern game can be altered to operate on u.k. voltage, by changing the connections and jumper linkages to its existing transformer. Also important is to change the varistor connected across the mains filter. One rated for u.s. voltage would explode if connected to the higher voltage in the u.k.

We need a graph to see the price increases over time me thinks. I bet it's above inflation.

It's a bit scary to watch if I'm honest. *HidesbehindsofaEmoji*

Still no sign of it slowing down. The average looking (from the available pictures) Tommy yesterday for £5000 sold within the hour with others lined up. In 2016 a shopped one was £1600.

Older games are too much for me now, I don’t feel your getting value for money any more also feel we are in a little bubble that will pop if we go into a recession so don’t want to be pay high then have to sell low if fancy a change. Newer games do feel to be better value at the moment. I ain’t paying 5k for a Tommy rather spend another 1.5k and get a new lcd stern.

Also like @CHRIS B PINBALLS has said the prices we are seeing as on here does not 100% reflect the whole market, much better deals are being made off the forum between collectors.

In my head I honestly had my very nice Tommy at 3500 in today’s market.
I have no clue anymore 😂

Just a snapshot. I have had 3 Fish Tales. I paid …..

2004 - 375
2012 - 600
2019 - 1800

2022 …..prices 3000 -3500
I paid £1300 for my FT in about 2010 from EBay.

Paid £850 for Jackbot in 2008 ish, again EBay.

Dr Who was £500 in 1999/2000 Ebay along with 2 x Vectors £200 for both and a Xenon £200, guy in Portsmouth had a warehouse full of machines.

Only really started my collection 4 years ago and the price was high enough then!

I remember when TAF was hitting the £2k mark years ago on eBay and thinking WTF😂

Easiest way to do this is to plot the values of TAF on a scattergraph over time.

Indeed, I will start that thread

Unfortunately it's going to break the hobby. Certainly in the way I've always enjoyed it. I hope the ar5e completely falls out of it but it doesn't look likely. Guess a recession could change things
It’s changed massively - money does that to things.
I’m now trying to accept that , the days of plentiful easy come easy go cheap games and projects has passed, just enjoy pinball still in whatever way I can 😃

Should never have sold Popeye … I swear to god it all went haywire after that 😁

@huggers all the stories above show the prices have been rising since the market hit rock bottom when pins stopped being popular in pubs at the end of the 90’s.

Sentimental items rarely suffer across the market in a recession. Sure, the prices don’t rise but an item enjoyed isn’t suddenly worthless to the owner. The ones being offload out of necessity, are picked up by those who are less effected.

And if the bottom ever did fall out, then most of us just won’t be selling, because by then I suspect that the country would be in a depression and the ££ had no value. By this point we would be trading kidneys for food.
