The "How much is this table worth" thread....

In 2021 IJ4 sold for £2200 on here. During bubble £4k ish- now I’d say @JAG555 is about right bearing in mind the whole market is a bit flat. How many people want to sell for that is an entirely different question

And think that is the issue with the market, no one is willing to let the market decide.

I notice a few Dutch Auctions that don’t go all the way until a sale, which is then not a Dutch Auction at all. They are basically testing their lower limit.

I think Sam Stern games give the best value, when priced low enough.

You’re right on both counts there- can’t see many more genuine Dutch auctions going forward between now and Crimbo- also can’t look past a SAM era if @Ringtail is buying what I assume might be their first pin. Good theme, upgraded code I believe available and a nice ark toy if you’re like me and don’t really know what you’re doing half the time

Stuff is selling 10-15% less than it was at the start of this year. I've sold 3 machines in sept/oct and took a hit of 4k over the 3 (and 2 out of those 3 i picked up at pinfest so we're not talking ages ago in terms of depreciation!). Obviously it hurts but i'm realistic of the market. If others reflected current pricing we wouldn't have such a massive list of for sale machines. I want to buy more games and there are machines up for sale I want but pricing is unrealistic for me. If i'm taking a hit then i would hope the people i want to buy from will do likewise and it'll cancel out.

This exactly- i mentioned this in @cooldan ’s sleepy market thread- I could be in a position where I’ve sold my one game for market value but might not get much scope to buy many other titles unless some sellers wake up and smell the climate. When I worked in the car trade, buyers were obsessed with their part ex price when in reality the only thing that mattered was the cost to change

Completely agree! The market is being stalled by people not willing to accept the market is in a different place now.

It also works the other way, if everyone pays the current asking prices then the market will get moving again, and we'll be nearer NIB prices which might spur more sales. The market will naturally find its place.

I don’t think enough people see the value in some of Sterns more recent pro models and that’s hitting resale. Rush, Mando, Venom, Wick, TMNT- lukewarm demand unless they’re keenly priced. Can distro’s not get around cointaker being included in the supply chain? We used to pre register cars to hit a back end bonus from Nissan and Renault- could UK distros not be incentivised in a similar way to make new Pros and boost Sterns sales volumes?

No, that won’t happen now, as there has been a downward shift in the market. This has already happened, but some of here just haven’t realised it.

Much prefer the counter to that and bring NIB prices down to more parity to US prices plus shipping costs.

I think we'd all like that but it isn't going to happen. NIB prices have stayed steady for the last year, even come down a bit, but my prediction is with Spike 3 we'll see a price increase again.

What are the sales figures though? I bet NIB are also down.

You can still buy LEs for most games.

These aren't console games that fit on a shelf. People have limited space and if they cant sell to make room, they cant buy! They have nowhere to put them. We are at the point where if second hand stuff is not getting priced right in the uk, the NIB market is really gonna struggle purely due to lack of space from the people with money.

Very true. It seems there are lots of unmotivated sellers, they don't have to sell.

Unless you are desperate for the money/space then you can stick with what you have, or take a chance on selling low and buying low, or trade.

Exactly, if used prices were nearer NIB I think there'd be more NIB sales. The prices are going in the opposite direction.
This is looking at it backwards though. People are just not paying the silly prices now, so that will also stall NIB sales. You cannot say pay more for this secondhand game and then you won’t feel so ripped off when you buy NIB.

That will have to come at some point.

I’ve sold two games in the past two weeks, looking to buy another two - but it’s a buyers market. I’ve taken hits on purchase prices but that’s the hobby. Or is most right?

I feel that Stern LCD pros at £6.5k I think will sit there for a while. You can talk about NIB prices but realistically I always put it down to what I’m happy “having in a game” - personally, having £5k “exposure” per game sits better than £6.5k.

I have two premiums that are in my mind in the £6-8k mark… I think about them “on my books” a lot more than a £4K stern DMD for example.

Whats peoples thoughts on the price of Stern's Avatar? As much as I'd love the JJP one, the Stern one will be more affordable. I'm thinking 3k. How far away am I from grabbing one.....and would you buy one?

Yeah, £3k should get you one and no, I wouldn’t get one. I think it’s a terrible game. I assume you have not played it?

I assume you've seen the one up for £4k, maybe make an offer, but yours and the seller's valuations are quite far apart.

I think it’s a good game and the amp suit is fun- judging by older selling prices, it was always slightly cheaper and less sought after than similar ages Sterns so I’d hope £3k today for a good one, if not less depending on condition

No, not played it. Just getting carried away with looking at the JJP one and thinking of giving the Stern one a go as that will be significantly cheaper. Terrible game? Glad I asked. Thanks.

Yeah, just my opinion, but I didn’t like it when I played it and I like the theme.

The JJP Avatar looks amazing!
