JJP Toy Story 4

So mechanically the LE is the same as the CE when it comes to the playfield features, just no topper or shooter?
Jack said there would never be playfield differences in levels of games, he broke that with GNR. He also said they would be family themes. I'd hardly call GNR Family.
They appear to be dumping CE orders on Pinside if anyone fancies picking one up. Personally I'll stick with my GZ Prem order....

I don't know who the target audience for *some* JJP pins is TBH. The Hobbit and Guns n' Roses, I understand, but 1971 Willy Wonka?!

Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory is one on my favourite films, and that’s the thing, we all favour different things, and in my opinion that’s a very good thing! What a world it would be if everyone liked the same things!

PS I really like my Wonka 😊

Another favourite film of mine is The Fly (1958), so maybe I’m very different!

Agreed Phil, I really liked that stance on their different models, hence why I'm very happy to own a Standard Dialed In. They actually went back on that with Wonka before GNR though didn't they? I've only played Wonka once, I'm sure there was some extra mech stripped out at the rear.

Yeah the Pinside meltdown is reaching critical

There's nothing wrong with liking 1971 Wonka, in the same way that I'd insta-buy a Warhammer 40k pinball machine :)

The issue is that companies go for target markets. JJP say they're designing for 'families' (i.e. to attract youngish kids who might be in an arcade at the seaside or similar), but - to be a family with kids aged between 6 and 15 - you typically need a female-bodied person under the age of 58. That means that, in 1971, a woman who had kids at 43 (pretty much the latest you can have kids naturally) who are now 15 - the earliest she could have been born is 1964. Hence, when Wonka was released, she'd be seven years old. Wizard of Oz is even older than that.

Thus, how many people are genuinely the target market for a family-friendly pinball machine based on a 1971 film? How many people with young kids are buying it for nostalgia for the original film? How many families with kids aged 8 and 10 are going to wander into Adventure Inside in Southend (for example) and go "Wow, it's Wonka from 1971, I must put £1 into that." I can see the argument for Toy Story 4 tho'. That is a modern-day film aimed at modern-day kids who might nag a pinball-loving parent into buying the pin (in the same way as my five year old nagged my mum and I into getting Godzilla).

I was saying I'm not the target as I don't have money for NIB.
I'd not be turned off by Wonka or WoZ because of the theme, they're timeless.

Toy Story was a family film, I wouldn't say it's just a kids film. The theme can work with anyone, look at most of the great Bally Williams games they aren't adult themed.

I do think they have got the theme a bit wrong and it comes across a bit childlike with those colours, Toy story has a different palate in my mind.

I've seen this a lot and never understood why - why can't they get the print to line up exactly with the holes? Surely with modern technology it is all automated and they should be able to line it up to <1mm tolerance?

the artwork is the most depressing part about this game

If we ignore that it’s Toy Story 4 instead of any of the others for a second, I’d say that the art is the second most depressing part.

The most depressing part is the giant screen taking up so much playfield real estate, and the fact that the best thing they could think to do with it is put a digital pinball game on it. Who the **** wants to play digital pinball whilst they’re literally standing in front of a real machine??

Just saying you gotta be brave to be spending any money on this. The artwork is terrible and wtf is up with that iPad in the top corner.

I definitely would be in the camp of 'wait to play it' before making a blind purchase on this.

I was born in 86 so I was nine when the original movie came out. I clearly remember seeing it for the first time at our local Odeon and I’ve been a big fan of the franchise ever since. Loved the sequel and really liked the third. Even my dad ranks the first two amongst his favourite films and he’s normally not one for ‘kid’ movies.

Given that the rumours we’ve been hearing for years were for a Toy Story machine I honestly thought I’d be putting an order in for one of these today, but Toy Story 4 just isn’t the same. I didn’t hate it, but I found it kind of forgettable. It isn’t classic Toy Story.

I’m not ruling it out entirely just yet, but the videos / gameplay are really going to have to be something special given the theme and the playfield design. Such a shame, it had so much potential.

So stern uses a screen the size of a second class stamp, on the jp home pin, which lets down an otherwise great game ( by all accounts)
And jjp puts a 10” screen on the playfield, for no reason whatsoever ( because they can )
Strange times indeed !

Looks 'good' if you have a daughter under 12!
Also I was hoping for a game based on Toy Story, not just TS4, missed a great opportunity for the claw machine in place of that 'iPad'.
I think this will be the first JJP I skip, shame as I do like a PL game.
