JJP GNR Pinball

Has Mirco ever done any decent playfields? Colours wrong, text missing, clear coming away, clear cracking, clear soft, ghosting inserts, inserts low, and now ink not dry enough before the next process. All this over quite a few years and he is still in business WTF😂
JJP are doomed if they keep using them or anyone else.
Or... people will quickly forget about these issues and keep buying each new release regardless.

This will make zero difference - it’s also the process that mirco uses and how long the ink dries before he puts clear on. He’s pretty much a one man band so there is a lot of variability in the process this is how there is also variability in quality of the output.

But that was under glass, in storage..

This is how to mount a post on a playfield and completely remove the chance of damage/pooling. These are 2 posts on R&M which are sat in shallow routed holes in the playfield. One is the flooble crank, a solid post with no rubber on you hit to charge the magna save and light locks, the other is a post at the bottom of the left ramp. Both are sunk down into the playfield. As JJP/mirco seem incapable of making a good playfield clear since Dialed in maybe they need to be looking at alternative post mounting options like this.

but that playfield was CMYK screen printed and this problem doesn't happen with that.

The issue has started since manufactures moved to direct ink jet style printing of play fields. Which to some extent uses the same process, but each colour isn't given time to dry on its own. Thus each layer may not have fully set before the next layer goes on, then you get the clear going on to a ink that is super unlikely to have bonded with the wood underneath.

Go back to this and all these issues go away but it costs more - personally I'd pay $500 for a perfect playfield guarantee. I shouldn't have to but it reminds me of the early TFT days with dead pixels.

Cheers,

@Neil McRae - you are already paying a premium for a 'guaranteed playfield'

What should of been done is JJP should of put PF design back into photo shop. Then reprinted with no design round each post.
Then counter sink the posts slightly like spooky do (that is a good idea).

If it meant pausing production for 6 months then so be it.

I don't believe that actually fully solves this problem, it helps for sure but on that I'm concerned about how the playfield copes with wear. Sure I might never have a game that long but if I do I don't want to know 8 years from now that when I see wear that the whole thing starts to peel off. Hard to be certain I agree but on screen printing it works and lasts for 20+ years.

Listen to Kaneda - he notes that Ken Cromwell from JJP stated this problem had been solved. I like Ken he is a good guy but he’s clearly getting a bum steer from his company.

Chris rightly calls out the rest of the media who are too chicken**** to call out this problem and are more worried about upsetting the manufacturers than protecting customers.

HEP goes on to suggest split washers smaller than the post could be the way forward, for prevention. Interesting.

I posted an amusing photo on the JJP Fans Facebook page and their social media guy got upset and asked me to take it down. which I considered and as I did it they they deleted the whole thread!

Neil.

it was the photo of Eric and the blank playfield at the top of this thread with some choice words added about mirco! ;)

Been looking into washers for G&R
Found this company..

can make silicone washers in any size and also put a adhesive backing on them..

Thinking if I get washers that are same diameter as the metal washer under post. Sticking washer to Playfield and then screw metal washer and post in..

thoughts?

What is you objective with the washers?

yeah but the damage still occurs. Washers aren't a solution and if you look at where the issues are happening you'd have half the playfield as a washer.

What washers are JJP putting on?
Rubber? PETG? people that have applied Mylar then silicone washers are reporting no further damage

I've been on the fence about pulling out over this. There's talk of a class action lawsuit over on pinside because JJP are treating customers so badly. One guy in Europe is strongly suggesting his pin was one that had been returned in the States, repackaged and sent out as new to Europe. If nothing else I might delay my purchase longer and see if JJP/mirco make/are forced to make any changes.

Perhaps the people on the line should know how to work the torque setting on their tools as some of the factory installed washers are bucking and doing the damage in the first place!

IMO damage still occurs, the washer just masks it.
People using irons / applying heat are asking for trouble.
Not sure about the torquing down too much to be honest, I have torque down on my Tron which I regard as a normal playfield, just leaves a ring indentation - not de-lamination

Also, how long do you want to wait till JJP get it right, they’ve had their chances - 3 pins later still can’t sort it.
