JJP GNR Pinball

I badly want their NBA Jam cab but am reluctant to pay 500 odd quid for a balsa wood cabinet with some stickers on it
Love or hate on Arcade1up they have brought retro to the masses and my little fella was straight on them whenever we popped in Smyths. (no longer out on display due to COVID sadly)
So I built him his own little bar top with a 60-1 and installed a scan line generator to give it a little more added retro feel and even though he loves it I think he’s been waiting of me buying an actual Arcade1up to replace it.
That will Not be happening but do have a larger mame cab the drawing board that I’ll hopefully start some point soon.

Yeah mate I haven't got a beef with them at all. I know there's some snobbery among the UKVAC types but as you say, a good way to bring retro to the masses/more casual types. And I definitely would have an NBA Jam. Cool little cab there for the little dude. How's that Aliens cab? You had a chance to do much with it?

It’s at the nieces, they had to remove the art as it was peeling and I have to knock some up for him some point so on the very long todo list. I am also gonna replace the Control Panel to give more buttons as he loves SF2 esk games and they a little limited with 2 buttons

arcade 1up video games are superb and great value for money. I just don't see that translating to pinball well.

But what was wrong with the live footage? As someone who spent his teens either at their concerts or watching videos of their concerts my only concern was that for some reason they look nearly 30 years older.

I dunno man, it looked kinda tacky? Like someone at JJP had bought a GnR live Blu Ray and got carried away a little. It's not a deal breaker or anything just looks a bit naff imo. Then again maybe it throws you into the vibe of a live GnR concert and that's what mega fans will want.

You’d like to think for innovation and make you feel like you are at the concert they would employ some sort of device to pump out the smell of sweaty bodies and alcohol.

I actually like the mix, it’s interspersed with some really cool animations from that UK dude who is showing the way with quality graphics and kinda mixes the overall look and feel of the concert with rewards achieved while playing the game. They said they had footage from every concert in every city in fact terabytes of the stuff with 1000’s of official photos so I hope they keep it fresh in the forthcoming updates.

It is what you get at the concerts. The large screens either side of the stage show you cut aways to band members doing their thing. Adds to the experience if you are too far back or Slash was the other side of the stage. So it felt normal to me but as mentioned, I watched a lot of gigs on video so might be use to that format.

I’m getting a Guitar Hero vibe for some reason....
But still hoping they add more CEs and I’ll buy, but think I have more chance of Slash taking his shades off while playing pinball 😕

Dude has got to be my age, I am nearing putting my readers on when playing my pins never mind those blackout ones he wears must be a bloody nightmare to see out of them

That's funny I very nearly mentioned Guitar Hero earlier. Big time Guitar Hero vibes. No bad thing. When I worked at Blockbuster back in the day we used to play the 3rd one behind the counter for hours on end head to head, brilliant fun. Trying to play 'Dragonforce - Through the Fire and Flames' with customers waiting was no mean feet :D

It does remind me of guitar hero and its similar to the DE game.. However take what works, put some cream and sprinkles on top and what have you got. Top 10 pin!

I guess the std model is for GnR music fans who want to get a pinball, probably their first pinball, cant justify the extra spend and dont even really understand the features offered by the more expensive options. Wont be too many sold
The LE is for pinheads who know that the std model is ****e, so really the basic entry level for anyone in the know. Hence a big run of 5k units.
the CE is really the LE for pinheads.

Simples

:D

Not sure, is this actually classed as Rad Cal?
Eric said the LE cab art just has a mylar coating to prevent the art rubbing off, like around the flipper buttons.
The spec matrix only mentions the actual Rad Cal wording on the CE albeit mirrored...... would be good if someone could clarify.

There’s some bitter Stern Fanboys over on pinside, complete ignorance to not offer JJP any praise what so ever, imo JJP blew the roof off the pinball industry with the reveal and the game itself!

If you didn’t know any better, comparing Wonka to GnR it looks like GnR was built by a completely different company.

Although one thing I haven’t seen asked if mentioned, is the coincidence of both AIQ and GnR having a spinning disc with a single post? Coincidence? Or someone being sneaky?

Yeah noticed that as well. Wondered if someone noticed it on AIQ and stuck it in as it fixed a problem in GnR. Maybe it’s the other way around as apparently GnR has been finished for months.

could be knowledge seepage via employees jumping ship and starting with the other etc etc
