Just makes me laugh when people try and use the top 100 rating system to add value to machine, I don't like wear but wear is not always due to amount of play but can also be down to other criteria such as playfield design (unprotected sink holes), rusty balls coupled with low maintenance (or just a Stern playfield :D), the playfield either has wear or it doesn't, you could play a DM all day and all night and it would probably not wear (they just don't) couple of hundred games on a MB with no sink hole protection and you would have very visible wear.

Also, what's wrong with a bit of wear. It make the table cheaper :p Cars are to be driven, not polished.

For me, I'd rather just buy the machine, even if it has wear, as the overall most important thing for a pinball machine is how it plays, rather than how it looks. I'd always rather have a 100% working machine that is setup right and plays perfect, to one that looks fantastic but plays like a dog.

Playfield wear is however one of the main deciding factors of the price of a pinball machine. As many playfields are either impossible to buy replacements for, or even if you can buy a replacement, you are looking at a few hundred ££ and tens of hours work to swap it, so people would generally like to get the better playfields rather than the worn ones.

Even though I do buy machines with worn playfields, I often find myself wishing I had a better playfield if it is a machine I play alot

I also like the cabinet dings, bits of graffiti, etc. Authenticity and originality is where it's at.

Looks like it's catching up with the WH20 in a hurry or maybe it was just an abnormality, a glitch in the matrix

Yes it's one of my favourites to play but I'm thinking it's time for something else. Perhaps somebody specifically wanted that title, as I did. Lots of prices are crazy IMO - I wouldn't dream of paying upwards of £2k for TAF but plenty do. I was also lusting after WH20 but having finally played one I'm not sure if it's really for me - and they attract a hefty premium too.

We also haven't factored in the ...

"send me your bank details so I can send you the money" reason.

First one I've seen for sale since before xmas I think - usually there's a regular flow of them keeping the price down.

Could someone please help a noob like me buy a pinball machine? I could so do with some advice. Thanks

I am sure there is already a buying guide on here somewhere, Slam just been would have been a good place to see a load in the flesh (not that I ever make it down) go on Pinside Top 100 to see what tickles your fancy and come back on here with more info, I am sure there will be plenty of advice from here/there on out.

Yeah the Slam would have been a good intro and a chance to play a fair few different tables. It's hard to advise on what to go for because everyone has differing opinions.

I've had my first Pin for a little over a year now and pretty much bought it blind and had no experience of the table other than a few Youtube videos and feedback from people on here. Thankfully i've not lived to regret the purchase and since then i've become something of an addict and i've played loads of different tables. I think Play Expo last October was a highlight and NLP did a brill job on getting together a huge variety of Pins. I'd love to have more at home but it's not likely until we move and have more space.

Of course the downside to playing so many is that the wishlist keeps getting longer. ;)

It's well worth using Pinformer (http://www.pinformer.co.uk/) to seek out local Pins and go for a few games. If you do buy blind just keep in mind it's possible that the theme of the table could wear thin; in that case though you'd just look to move it on and take something else to replace it.

As a starting point what kind of money do you have available? That's probably going to dictate what you can and can't realistically afford.

Hi Guys! slam actually made me decide I actually want to buy a table - the ones I really liked were ACDC and Startrek and I'm not that rich! Guess I can spend £1000-1500. I'm looking for lots of multiballs, a nice bright / well lit table and extra flippers up the table. I don't want to watse money and buy a dog:) What do you guys think go JUdge. Dredd as a table? See there's one on eBay, would you say it's a good table?
