I managed to change the two faulty driver board transistors last night. CRIKEY. What an epic battle of wills that was. I'm sure rottendog must be using non-leaded solder because they did not come easily. I used a decent soldering iron and solder sucker and still I struggled. If anyone has any useful tips for how to desolder PCB components I could sure use them!
Two hours later I finally had the new ones in. Powered up again, and after a few ribbon cable fiddles, both failing coils now working. Idiot 1, Creech 0.
