whats the best method of creating a decal for a playfield? Either to replace one that is worn away or come off with mylar removal, or in this case, to cover up John Goodman with the real Fred Flintstone. :)

I've looked online and seen people creating them on transfer paper prior to clearcoating, which is probably the best method if you are stripping a machine down for a full restore, but what if you aren't going that far?

Is there a method to just do one area of the playfield? I know you can get replacement decals for some machines from various outlets, are these made of something strong enough to handle the ball going over them without getting ruined? Or are these supposed to be clear coated afterwards as well?

Obviously the printing needs to hold up to punishment as well as the media it's printed onto, so I'm guessing it's not something that can be done on an inkjet at home? :hmm:

Any pointers would be gratefully received.

@JT was doing something for his TOTAN.
I'd be interested to hear too as I have a repair decal for my fishtales which I have scanned.
I was going to print on to a water slide decal

Clearcoat on the playfield, waterslide decals, then another layer of clearcoat on the top. My decals were monochrome and took me ages to create in Adobe Illustrator, but mainly because I had to learn the basics of Illustrator first. @PeteB is probably the most experienced of anyone on here with the creation of computer based graphics for pins though, so can probably advise better than I can on how to create coloured graphics - or even better, get his artist to create them for you for a small fee :)
