Anything to do in the area?

Thanks

Luke

there's a herd of us going in April, roughly 23-27th to check out the pinball museum and the culture, oh and the beer!

Bob

I'm driving through Belgium later in the year, so was wondering if it was worth stopping for a day there and checking out the place.

According to trip adviser the things to do are "A forest" so it is not the most exciting part of Brussels 🤣

I'm wondering it if is better to stay somewhere else near buy and just visit the pinball for say an evening. I have no idea, never been to that area before 🤣

People will be able to tell you at the end of April if its worth visiting and anything else to do in the area. I think there is a car museum as well. Most seem to just go for a bit of pinball and a massive **** up though. 😅

Mrs Asiapinball is coming too and she is practically teetotal so we will be doing the cultural stuff too and hence likely a bit less on the pi$$ up. Will report back here on the other stuff.

I watched the Travel Man episode on Brussels, from the notes I took :-

To see
The big square (probably has a name, didn't catch it)
EU parliament building
Mannequin Pis

To visit
Mini Europe
Atomium
A puppet show
Chip museum
Train museum
Comics museum

To eat
Waffles
Mussels
Chocolate

They didn't mention beer, but that goes without saying

Didn’t go to the pinball museum but have been to Brussels.

If you want a proper local beer experience then you can take a short and very affordable tour of this brewery where they make Lambic and Gueuze style, bit of an acquired taste if you normally drink lager but definitely a unique experience: https://www.cantillon.be/visites?lang=en it’s close to public transport links or just take a cab.

For a relatively cheap but filling eat, Amadeo is a famous rib restaurant (there are a few around Belgium). They serve unlimited spare ribs along with a baked potato with a delicious curry butter for about 25€ and they can accommodate big groups if you book in advance. They also sell their house wine by the centimetre as well as by the glass/bottle so you only pay for what you drink. https://amadeus-resto.be/en/amadeus-brussel/

The frites are excellent pretty much everywhere, lots of shops selling them in cones with a variety of sauces (I like Andalouse - red pepper mayo)

It just keeps on getting better. :p

Not Brussels but If you are heading to the coast ports then a stop at the beautiful town of Ypres and checking out some of the World War 1 battlefields and cemeteries is a must.
The Menin gate monument to the missing with its moving Last Post ceremony every evening at 8pm is a must.

The Brussels pinball museum is aptly named. Most of the games switched off and not working, those that did were filthy and with faults, weak flippers etc. Imho, not worth the visit for the pinball gameplay but the bar was pretty good, only cos there was 25 of us there. We had a good singsong with the valve amp and a Bluetooth phone. Plus a traditional jukebox. Staff were friendly but I wish the main maintenance guy would ditch the weed and crack on with some repairs.
Overall though another brilliant uk pinballers trip abroad and we’re sad to be first to leave today, a day earlier than the rest of the group.

Roll on 26 and another trip to wherever (Prague has been mentioned).

Yeah, the machines needed a lot of work to get them playing right and a significant were not working. The arcade cabs were similar.
It was worth dropping into but not travelling for, however, we have done other good stuff in Brussels, so not a wasted trip.

Oh no!

I'm booked for Brussels in Sept now.

There is nothing to do in the pinball museum region, so I have an expensive hotel in the centre and am going to get the bus to the pinball museum.

The brand new Prague 1990's themed one looks good, I'm also going there later in the year.

Easiest way from centre Brussels to pinball museum is on the underground. Line 5 takes you there 20 mins ride and then 10 mins walk at other end.

Atomium is well worth visiting again out of centre about 40 minutes to get there by underground.
Also visited city museum in Royal Place and magritte museum and old masters and all as expected if you like that stuff.
Visited Waterloo today with Belgian friends which is about 15 miles south of Brussels. Lots of battle reenactments happen there if you like that sort of thing.

Bar called Comic Sans in centre has 7 pinball machines at 1.50 per play all great condition and 5 balls and lots of extra balls and all working perfectly including afm and the rest modern sterns..

Pinball museums most modern stern was simpsons pinball party. Most modern pin was alien.
Comic sans was excellent though and right near Wolf a multicultural food hall well worth a visit for some Vietnamese Pho

Comic Sans is definitely worth a visit. They have another larger bar in Ghent with 10 machines, so you can take a trip there as well. 😀
I've actually looked at their menu/flyer which accidentally dropped in my bag.

As well as the pinball machines, darts board and pool tables which are clearly visible. You can also hire board games of various types, they have over 30 available. Free with a deposit.

Food is also available.

So much more than just the beer and pinball we saw
