I'll have a look. I think they were the same links in the kit as was originally on the machine but funnily enough one of the springs was broken.

Whirlwind would've originally used the type with much more of a pointed plunger end, which continued well into the Wpc era, including the early Fliptronic/II games. I didn't take to the new arrangement, and continued using the pointed type. But putting a conical spring in with the newer link on later games (to obtain the 'feel' I preferred) often resulted in it getting broken, and fouling the flipper return.

Just rebuilding the spinners.
The new spinner decals have a different shade of blue. Anyone remember whether WW sometimes had dark blue - it’s messing with my OCD.

First wtf moment of the day. Pop bumper holding screw snaps. Surprisingly easy to tap out and replace with a modern one. They don’t match but I’ll live. Kruzman playfield potion seems to work.

After a massive break I’ve resurrected the WW build. Going clear pop bumpers and all clear rubber.

I prepared nearly 90 dimples in the playfield today so I don’t crack the clear when it all goes back on.

Just for info. 99% of topside dimples are in the correct place for CPR WW. The only one out was on a ball guide and my original playfield also has a dimple in that place that wasn’t used. Probably out at the factory as well.

Made progress but wrecked a couple of t nuts in difficult to reach places. Protector installed as playfield repopulated.

Plastics, plastic protectors and riveting done. Wiring loom had a shower ready for the next stage.

Spent all weekend soldering and repairing the ramps rather than buy new. The little yellow cloth under the ramp flap is 3M’d on to stop my repair mesh touching the new playfield.
All soldering done and everything back in except the diverter mech. Original cliffy ramp protector back in super snug.
Went a bit too far and sprayed the little wooden blocks the switches sit on yellow even though only I will probably ever notice.
Reaching the stage where the parts box is empty is satisfying.

A guy in Germany has made replacement cabinet stickers for an ‘export’ Whirlwind. These are customised to my serial numbers.
Would be useful to know who please - only because the only ones i had came from treasurecove in the US and i could do with another set...

I often look on the US site to see what the yanks have listed. You can pick up all sorts that never gets listed here.It still won’t come up for me in a search without the link. Lol
Either way these decals are top quality and packaged really well. For info - they took a month to arrive but no big deal given it takes me a month to get round to fitting a ramp.

Playfield back in and new diagnostic switches soldered in. I set the leaf switch gaps and tested the switches were all free before installing the playfield in hope that it makes life easier later.
I’m two chrome bolts short that I’ll be stealing back off the Jurassic Park to finish this build.

Adapted whatever coin door this is for System 11. I might have some techie questions about dumping the coin mech wiring at some point but I have three switches on the playfield to sort first. One error is ‘Momentary short’ which I think might relate to the three coin slots that don’t exist but I want to rule everything else out.

Decided I was confident enough to carry on snagging with the apron on and just playing it. Found a load of other minor stuff to sort out next weekend. Trough switches definitely need adjustment and a two way gate has decided it’s only one way.
I’m keeping the playfield protection on for now.

I learnt a lesson - machine was ejecting two balls each time as the coin chute switch wire was grounding out on the door and stopping one of the trough switches opening. I just need to dial the machine in now and fit glass etc. Happy days.
Good to see another WW restoration thread, I started my WW resto in 2020 then before you know it 5 years has passed and still not a great deal has been done.....! But I'm back on it now, I'll be following your thread with interest!

Sounds good. I’ve got 100s of photos if you get stuck with where things go when it goes back together.
Unless you are absolutely certain it’s a keeper my only advice would be to stay away from the chrome. I got mine years ago before prices went through the roof.
Man 5 years! I'd of forgotten all the small things I remember during disassembly. I struggle past 5 weeks!

New flipper switch gone in and Loctite on the mechs out of despairation. Fixed the dodgy bulb connections whilst the playfield was up before we go again.
Backbox hinges on but I’m refusing to get the side rails and glass on until it consistently behaves itself. The plus side is I’ve enjoyed playing it again whilst testing.
