Hi all,

I am after a bit of Stern advice.

I really like Stern's Metallica (despite the half-finished software) and in particular I like some of the features that you generally dont get in B/W machines (like colour changing LEDs and shaker motor).

So I'm looking at other Stern machines that might offer that modern feel, and was thinking of AC-DC - as it is newish and it is fairly deep from what I hear. I was just wondering what others thought of it - is it good?, does it matter if you're not an AC-DC fan particularly? (I wasn't a Metallica fan, but that doesn't stop me liking the game), is the software complete? etc. I had a few goes at a show recently and was quite impressed, but you don't really get much of a feel when you can't hear anything...

Otherwise, what else is worth looking at? Spidey? X-Men? Do any stand out? I realise it's all subjective, but I am really interested in hearing what other people like Sternwise.

Cheers,

Paul

AC/DC Premium is an awesome machine. Owned mine for about 5 weeks now - still trying to get my head around some of the more complex rules. So many different ways to play it and the sound and light show really suck you in. I like AC/DC music but not a hardcore fan, with 12 songs there a lot more variety of music than most other pins - it's pretty easy to change songs mid game too.

Hoping to pick up a Star Trek or Tron sometime, though I haven't played Star Trek yet.

LOTR is good - deep rule set so you can get some mega long games. SM is excellent too, but fast rather than a deep rule set. I have a BMTDK at the moment and that's an outstanding game as well in my opinion - it's certainly getting a lot more play time than my MET - at least until the new code comes out :-).

loving my AC/DC. The lights are really cool. SM and LOTR lighting actually look a bit dull now in comparison. Not played it much but Tron seems to be a winner for most people

Pop down to the Slam, there will be a few of what's been talked about plus many more.

Thanks for all your advice. I'll definately be going to the Slam - can't wait. And if only Special When Lit was a bit closer to me I would be down every week, Moonraker. I've been once and loved it.

I definately want to play AC-DC again somewhere I can hear it. I wish the backglass was different though - not quite my cup of tea. (I actually prefer the look of the Luci version, women being more to my taste than men in school uniforms, but I don't think there are any Lucis in the country.)

Mark9 - how finished is the AC-DC code? Is it pretty much done?

Some fantastic Sterns to choose from.

AC/DC is a good choice for home, really enjoying mine. Good fun just whacking the ball around, and as you spend more time with it and get familiar with the rules, its an incredibly strategic game.
There are alternative translites available from mod'ers, like this one:

LOTR also good fun, but you need to be prepared for epic long games to get high scores.

Would really like to get more familiar with X-Men too. Hate the dots, but love mostly everything else about it.

Wow. That translite looks great - much better than Luci. And I see the guy sells Angus covering decals. Perfect. This changes everything! Stan I can't wait to see your ACDC in the flesh.

ACDC is quite simply a phenomenal game and I seriously doubt you would regret buying one, Will has one up for sale for a reasonable price too

TBH not sure whether the code is finished, but it seems ok to me. I haven't even got the latest code, mine's running on 1.63, haven't updated it because I want to try and beat the previous owner's scores.

And huge Metallica code update due in next week or two so should totally change the game.......and finish it!

Played most of them

Metallica
LOTR
SM
TSPP

All good games. Tron an Ac/Dc get good write ups but they are a little overrated imo

Having recently acquired SM and TSPP they are getting a lot of my playtime ATM and loving both, but the rule set on TSPP is staggeringly deep, I'll probably never see everything. SM is fun and fast but nowhere near as deep as TSPP, or RBION for that matter.

I recently just did a tour around london going to all the venues that have pinball machines and played TSPP,SM, LOTR, MEtalica and AC/DC. I thought they were all good excep TSPP but have to say that SM was my favourite on the day. If I was to buy though then ACDC because the rule set is fun and you get a nice flow when playin the game. There is a lot of modes to learn and if you own it you won't get bored. TSPP is awful IMO
