Thoughts on Jaws Pinball

I’ve still never played one. And I’m still pis_sed off that the shark doesn’t swallow the ball. If one of my friends nearby had one I could go to town on for an hour or so while drinking, that’d be cool. Anyone? I’m not travelling miles just to be disappointed, fuc_k that shi_t.

Jaws is far better in real life than it looked on reveal.
I’ve only had a few games on one at PBR but it seemed pretty immersive. Couldn’t hear any of it though so that takes away from the experience.

Weirdly enough I preferred it compared to Godzilla. That’s a decent enough game but not the second coming a lot of people treat it as.

If you have honestly played jaws prem properly and think it’s absolute garbage, then you should buy some golf clubs and get some fresh air because pinball isn’t for you matey

Played Pro and Premium on early code at EAG and they were an absolute joke.

Played a Pro 3 months ago at someone's house and my opinion hasn't changed.

Sorry, it's an absolute bore fest for old people.

bought a jaws premium start of November without playing it. None of my other machines have had much of a look in since.

Equally as good as GZ but with a better theme. Just gets better and better the more you learn the rules.

for me plays easier than GZ but maybe its just the way mine are set up.

Love the upper playfield as adds more verity. It still adds worthwhile shots to the game and the fact the ball doesn't stay up there long means it doesn't break the flow of the game., Once used to it Id really miss it if i had to swap to a pro id think,

Cant believe anyone could find it boring, theres so much to do and plenty of different strategies.

Made the mistake of buying EHOH nib and if you want a bore fest thats like "chopping wood" then thats your game :). Put the money towards Jaws and couldnt be happier. will be here many years much like GZ.

Do you have both Jaws and Godzilla - if so would you advise against it?

yes have both. Love em both just as much. Had GZ a few years now from new and still love it just as much as when i got it. JAWS has the same vibes.

JAWS definitely made me realize how important theme is and the integration of the video and having the John Williams music going is really great.

If your a JAWS fan then go with that out of the two, you will love it, but in terms of the gameplay you cant go wrong with either IMHO.

Make sure you play one before you buy.

I think it's absolute garbage.
Probably the best advice anyone can give before you shell out a small fortune.

Some games simply don’t click with you as a player. I remember really looking forward to playing a WMS IJ. When I got the chance I was totally underwhelmed. Owning one didn’t change my opinion. Same with CV and TOM. Neither did it for me.

People seem to like GoG. I just don’t see it.

We’ve all got different tastes. Take your time. If you can’t find anything more local then come up to Croydon. Play both games and everything else they have. Do some touristy stuff. At least that way you’ll know one way or another if it’s likely to be a game for you.

When games cost a few grand taking a punt in the dark was fine. If you’re dropping 12k on something it needs to be right for you.

Theme wise, I’m actually a massive Godzilla fan also - it’s what drew me to my first pin. Jaws is in my top 3 all time films. I own the Alien pin, which is very slow paced and a wide body - but in all honesty, I do enjoy it.

I wasn’t sure on Jaws at first as some of the reviews were mixed - but heard the updates are stellar. I have a few weeks to make a final decision. I’ll go premium for both.

your spoilt for choice then,

If your not set on NIB then something that may sway it for you is your way more likely to find or get someone to part with a used GZ than jaws at the moment so might be able to save quite a bit of money going GZ route.

Jaws is great because it is so non-linear.

So many different ways to play it, unlike JP which is way more linear.

As ever if the theme doesn't resonate, game will not grab you in the same way.

The Revenge mode is outstanding, but really hard.

Haven't heard of anyone finishing it, except Carl?

I prefer Jaws to GZ, as never really understood why GZ is as highly rated as it is.

GZ is a great game, but there are loads of games I would choose before it.

Lastly, Jaws still hasn't even reached 1.0 yet!

The other pin I have is Alien. It’s slow paced and a wide body, but I quite like it. It’s obvs very different to a Stern.

Alien shouldn't be a slow pin, please check your set up.

Special When Lit lit is nearer to you than pbr, you could pay us a visit and try the line up. Be interesting to see if you can get the top score on alien at the very least...!

Practice getting your hypersleep multiball...
I’m still learning tactics and control - I work a lot so I’ll put more time in as and when I can. That hypersleep shot is so satisfying. I do get issues with the machine though, sticky flippers. This one was Wolfden’s - but I picked it up from Chris at Sawbridgeworth.

I’m a sucker for themes - which I know isn’t always the best, but when they click, it’s pure magic. Will pop by your place and check out the pins. :)

This is one of my playthroughs. Looking at it, it’s not too slow, but compared to ST TNG it’s a slug!

IMDN is a belter that's only second to JP of all of Elwins games
I know Neil did 'Disco Maiden', but this may be more theme suitable for anyone who doesn't like Maiden's music.

I can't stop listening to these '<Insert Band/Album> if recorded in the 50s' YouTube videos. The lyrics really stand out, they were quite big on pillaging and looting by the sounds of it.

My two pence.

I've had an IMDN prem and Godzilla Pro at the same time and that worked okay. I've played a fair bit of JP2 prem and a fair bit of Jaws on location.

All of Elwins games that I've played are good. IMDN and JP2 are the most linear game goal wise. Which means you learn how to progress through the game to eventually complete the goal (there are ways to score big points but the goal is central) . GZ, AIQ and Jaws are positioned the other way round. Less linear, more point scoring tactics but do have a completion goal, if you want to play that way.

I would consider having a reasonably diverse collection in terms of gameplay.

Currently, I have 3 main games that are very different in that respect.

WOZ - it's a journey.
TNA - a brutal test of skills and reactions.
BSD - goal orientated to getting all 3 multi balls going to score big points.

You should set your wide body up steep to speed it up a bit.

I’ll put it on a steeper incline. Thanks for the heads up and your post. Good to know.
