I guess my issue is that you need to be careful with non reversible modification of anything. Who knows what the future holds for pinball but in almost other collectable situations, originality is king.

Sounds like you also enjoy the inevitable 'out of order' sign you'd often see on arcade based pins too if you enjoy the originalityI prefer originality above all else. I quite like the occasional ding, scrape or graffiti. It's like it was when they were in the arcades (other than the very short period of being new).
You can destroy the patina of use, but you can never recreate it.
