Hi Pinheads

Even though my The Addams Family drains all the time, I still play it more than my AC/DC, but it's sooooo annoying draining all the time.

Eg. This morning I put my porridge in the microwave for 2 mins and thought I'd sneak in a quick game of TAF. Summary, ball 1 drain in 6 seconds, ball 2 drain in 4 seconds and ball 3 in 12 seconds (I actually managed to get a flipper on that one).

I was back at the microwave before it was finished, lol

Are all TAF's like this? If so, why is it so popular?

I do think that frustration is partly what drags me back to a particular game. And that applied very well to taf. I find it frustrating but keep on coming back to beat that feeling.

Where is it draining? If your unhappy just bump the balls per game up.

Try altering the pitch of the game , can make a big difference and also make sure the game is level.
If it's draining down the out lanes then you can make the entrances smaller by altering the star posts.

Lack of a ball save for those quick drains doesn’t help. Another thing TZ improved on.

Where are you plunging too? Hard Left orbit, skill Shot, swamp? None of those should be instant death.

I feel your pain mate.

Put simply, I love pinball but I'm quite sh1t.

I have 30 mins per day at best to play and don't fancy spending that time shouting at the machine.

Multi-drain mode on Jackbot is particularly infuriating. Most of the time it just spits the ball between the flippers (Bluto was good at that too until I adjusted him).

Yesterday I went into the mancave and got my highest score yet (3billion). I went and made a cup of tea and then returned to find the bumpers launching the balls at speed into the side drains.

Maybe a fighter pilot could react in time but not me. I returned to the house in a very grumpy mood. 😂

Also, have 3 Shredded Wheat for breakfast instead of porridge :D

Mine doesn't drain anything like that. And how are you not getting a flipper on it from the plunge? If you plunge into the swamp it kicks out to the flipper - if you plunge to the skill shot it drops to the upper flipper. The only way it won't go to a flipper is if you plunge into the graveyard, which IMHO you shouldn't be doing anyway.

1st went to graveyard then out to middle of flippers, 2nd bounced off bumber then off peg by swamp and down right lane, and 3rd I hit with flipper, bounced off chair straight down left.

For me this is one of the reasons I don’t like TAF - the initial launch can be so varied across so many, mostly tired, TAF’s. I can’t think of a TAF I’ve played in the last two years that was consistent.

I have had my Addams for over 20 years. I am not the best player. This game IS NOT A DRAIN MONSTER

How open are your outlanes ?

Pitch makes a huge difference.

Are both your left and right flippers powerful enough to make the main ramp ? If a shot fails to make the main ramp and the games pitch is "wrong" it can drain straight down the middle.

In all Pinball machines, there are very dangerous shots. You avoid these at all costs unless you really need that feature at a given point in time.

On f15 tomcat, it is the central target. On fish tails it is the captive ball. On ebryon it is the central ball......

On my Addams, the chair from the left flipper is quite safe. The chair from the right flipper is dangerous if you miss the shot

I'm thinking similar. I've got Medieval Madness Remake coming at some point and think it will replace TAF.

I'm not mad keen on MM. If it were my money it'd be edging towards MB. But anythings an improvement over TAF :) Man I hate that game. So much.

Just checked again. Apart from the drain risk from the graveyard, it seems to be the kickers above the flippers, they're very strong (compared to AC DC). Eg. Plunged and hit skill shot, ball rolls down right hand side and I flip it up the train lane with the top right flipper. It then rolls down and bounces off the swamp and hits the right, then left then right kicker straight in to left drain lane. Often the kickers kick to each other, getting stronger each time then straight down the left or right lane.

The table is level etc. Maybe it's just the design of the table.

Can I turn down the strength of the kickers?

(Feels like I'm just whinging now)

Strength? No, not without changing the coils which you shouldn’t do. You can adjust the sensitivity of the slingshots by adjusting the leaf switches that control them. I’d suggest using a leaf switch tool for that.

TAF isn’t really a drain monster, but all pins have an element of bad luck built into them. They are after all designed to take money. Ramps and orbits are designed to flow towards the centre etc.

As has been said already a chair shot from the right flipper is very risky. Slingshots are by their nature outlane bait, etc.

More modern pins are more generous with ball save times etc. The old school games like TAF and TZ were designed with operators in mind.

The slings sounds spot on. Looks like your AC/DC ones needs adjustment!

I discovered that the rubber pins on the entrances to the drain lanes have three holes / settings. Last night I moved both from middle pegs to end pegs, making the opening to the drains lanes slightly smaller. Will test today...[emoji846]

Hmm.. I'm not sure what that means. Could you elaborate? Maybe with a photo? I don't remember "rubber pins" on TAF unless I'm missing something on mine :)

lol well you've taught me something and I've had my TAF (and other pins) for a months :D

Thanks for the photos - makes it very clear!

I wonder if there is a "standard" setting for those?
