Sterns useless playfield lifting mechanism

If you haven't been mousetraped by a pin, you ain't lived ;)

Which machines are you talking about there? I have The Shadow and Getaway which have the same slide/tilt mechs fitted and don't have that problem getting the playfields back in, just lower down and the pegs on the cab open the sprung locks, slide back and lower in. I don't have to lift the rear of the playfield. Maybe you are talking about older machines with different mechs?

Any real Bally (not WPC Williams Bally, which is a name only)

Both the MPU AS-2518 generation and the 6803 generation are equally terrible. It was 6803 generation that I was struggling with last night

Ah right, I'm not familiar with the mechs on those.

@TYHO - tell us about the time you got trapped inside a pin when the playfield fell on you, that was a priceless story
That was a DE Star Wars if I remember correctly.
Great story. Come on Chris let the forum know of your embarrasment.

Yeah, the middle pivot is a real pain on RG when I want to get to the diverter that's right at the back of the playfield. I've heard you can lift it off the hooks and slide it forward that way and there's wear marks where that's been done before but I'm not really comfortable lifting it out on my own!

Happened to me yesterday - working underneath on a relay bank of an EM and playfield crashed down on my head and pinned me in the game:oops: Luckily power was off and I got out with a sore head!

Looks like he is to busy installing the Metalica MOP code. Should keep him quite for a while.

Earth calling Poibug.
Forum calling Chris.

Oi @TYHO you numpty. Come and tell us the tale.

About 11 years or so ago,was working on a DEast SW - and cos of said playfield support mech,it was out of alghnment at the back,so i reached in to pull it back in place, and being stumpy, fell in, and had the playfield land on top of me.

No one else in the house, and I didn't want to damage out so i was thinking, shisser, pretty fooked here.
Then rememebered land line phone was just in reach IF it was where I thought I had left it.
After much hunting managed to find it,phone my dad who lives about 2mile away, and he promptly come down and helped get me out.

He was ****ing himself laughing and said why didn't you just throw the thing off yourself Chris

"cos I might have damaged summat, couldn't do that dad",was reply.

sure he called me a numpty

Had a HH playfield fall down from near vertical, and tw@ me on the head - sooo close to passing out with that one - coulda been well messy if the axe, sorry playfield support had hit my head

There was the time the house rcd tripped, when some solder fell down and landed on an uncovered fuse,240v on my,at the time newly acquired Black Hole - it wasn't all safety conscious stuff back in 1980's I guess

Sooo many more fook ups...

Left the lid off my tumbler (unbeknownst to me) - went out and returned next day where it had been running for about 18 hours - dust EVERYWHERE all over the pins

I could prob go on for a fair bit with this lot..

Leaving Villa show, with works transit van, pulling out of the venue, door musnt have been fully shut, turning right and side door slid open - how the hell nothing happened there is beyond me

Being knackered as hell unloading after the above show, using my mates sack truck, that was knackered by then - tyre flat, wheel bent.
To exacerbate, had been up in the bar till about 5.30am that sunday so mega rough, tired etc etc. There was a doorway in his house where wms pins would JUST fit through, but due to the truck,I had to lift it all level to get em all thru.
Down to last pin- a nice heavy widebody Judge dredd,we are manhandling it thru - me on truck handles,Rob assisting lifting at the bottom.
We then get said machine stuck in the frickin' doorway.
There we were,by now, physically and mentally drained trying to free the pin, without completely killing the door frame.
Rob give it a good wrestle,I lose the firm hold of the truck, machine come dislodged, truck falls straight to the floor with my arms underneath. The ONLY thing that stopped my both arms from breaking, was the angled handles bottomed out first, and my girly arms are thin so only got hit, instead of massacred-there were yellow and purple bruises for a fair few days.

Oh yes,and the Dracula incident...

And this pic shows what happens when you drink waaaay too much at a pinshow for your 40th Birthday
