Well....... I'm kind of past the point of no return now...

Looked like this a few hours ago:

Looks like this now :eek::eek:

Never got my hands this dirty on a pin before. I've just dived in. Sod it. What's the worse that can happen? Right? Right Guys....???

I've taken some 'before' pics that I will post later. Found some very inventive fixes! I've decided to go all out on this. Going for a full restore. I'm going to try and do everything myself so it could take a while.

I've taken about 200 so far. I've bound to have missed something important though. I am somewhat concerned about the whole thing. Too late now though!

:eek:

You will be fine

Theres plenty of them out there, if you get stuck someone can take a few pics for you

Im still doing a 1979 Star Trek and have realised how woefully under photographed the table was before dismantling

Still at least I have a few spare parts left now :confused:

Go for it Dean, looking good so far.

If you do need a pic of anywhere you might have missed just let me know I have loads from when I did mine and like Ian has already said if I don't have it then I can take a snap for you.

D.

Nice work dude. I can only imagine how stoked your missus is with the state of the living room. Whilst you've got it all stripped itd be worth treasure coving. You can borrow mine if you like. I'll half way swap it at coggeshall or something:-)

Cheers guys. And thank you for the offer Gaz, that's very kind of you. I may well take you up on that when the time comes.

Oh, and Tracy is OK as it's in the garage these days due to Lethal Weapon's promotion to the house. Actually, she's better than OK as I have been out of the way for most of the day! It's win win.

Cheers GrizZ.

Front and back of Playfield now completly stripped. :eek: Any one got any good tips on cleaning the larger metal parts like the flipper assemblies? I'm not sure what to use really. They are pretty dirty.

Where do you guys strip these down in the absence of a rotisserie? I have no lounge table (just a little Glass coffee table thing that is no-where near big enough!!!

I stripped the top with the playfield still in the cabinet. I stripped the back on a make-shift table that I created out of boxes of comics in my garage.....

Awesome, cheers. I've got some of that foaming cleaner from PH somewhere. I'll give it a shot.

Wheel clearner eh? I'll grab some of that today too.

2nd that, the foaming cleaning is much cheaper to use up that some of the other stuff but it can smell a bit. Many people report to putting everything in the dishwasher.

Eaisest and best way to get your metalwork looking good is to get it re-zinced, but that costs.

Best for the metal work is use this.[attachment=1372:cleaners 003.jpg]Its cheap and gets rid of most stubben stains. (even those in Pauls pants).

Spray it on then use a scotchbrite pad to get rid of anything thats left.

Anything else thats hard to shift then there is nothing better than this.[attachment=1373:cleaners 004.jpg]Its not to cheap but its the best thing I have come across in all the years I have been into this hobby.

One of the best things its good for is when you get a really dirty playfield like the one on the Creech that Big Ian has just bought. All you need to do is just spray it on and just watch the dirt fall off , it really is that good.

Thats funny, I don't seem to follow those rules either.

I don't think many of us do.

Who can be ****d looking for a pair of protective gloves when doing a bit of pinball cleaning ? Not me.

Plus those thin latex ones just fall to bits as soon as they come into contact with any kind of chemical , and there no way I am walking around with the wifes pink washing up gloves on.:eek:

Thanks for the advice guys. I've got evertything listed except the Autoglym so I'll see how it goes with what I've got.

Yay! Hours of scrubbing dirty metal. We know how to live...

Thought I'd post some of my findings so far.

Oh Joy. This will be fun to fix:

Oh come on now......

[attachment=1375:pop2.jpg]

Praise the Lord!

[attachment=1376:pop3.jpg]

Mountains are pretty tasty though! :eek:

[attachment=1377:mountain1.jpg]

Carrier bag painted black!?? Nice touch.

[attachment=1378:mountain2.jpg]

Nothing like a nice secure coil. I mean really, nothing like it...

[attachment=1379:coil1.jpg]

And lastly, I think there is a tiny bit of glass in the cabinet. Can you spot it?

[attachment=1380:inside.jpg]

Just spent an hour cleaning and rebuilding the upper flipper assembly. That's about all I managed tonight. This thing is going to take me ages!

You may not be able to tell from the pic but this thing was real dirty.

i thought those compression springs were out of favour these days - don't people replace those things with the one that stretches and recoils?

i'm probably wrong, but i think i saw/read that somewhere.

I think you are right Dan. The bottom flippers have the other type. Hmm... Not sure why they are different.
