So - Pinball backbox wingbolts - who uses them?

Do you use wingnuts in backboxes?

Scott, your latch is tight as the head box is already leaning forward which is keeping it tight - look at that gap between your head box and the main body of the pin. Every nudge will give that head box a chance to wiggle and over time bend the top part of the latch (the V bit) or just one day allow it to ping open.
You could be cleaning and accidentally knock the latch, a neighbours kid could knock it open. Accidents happen, safety is important - stop being so stubborn and chuck a wing bolt or two in there you tight git!

My bad, bottom of backbox if flush with pin I’ve been politely informed.

The latch is accessible by all without key. Just takes a nosey kid and someone gets hurt really badly. If you have your hand in when the box comes down you‘ll be really sorry you saved on the screw. And liability is not just someone suing for neglect, it is the knowledge someone got hurt because you cut a corner.
Always use them.

It's that wiggle room that causes the issue. I have a few pins that if you nudge the head does move ever so slightly. One so much that the latch fell from its securing position.

if some kid unlatches the latch then they are liable. End of discussion. No court in the land is going to say otherwise.

With so many forum legal experts no wonder lawyers are struggling to make ends meet. Or maybe not - because none of these forum legal experts have even been in freaking court let alone prosecuted a case.

Neil.

If you have some old ****e pinball machine I'd be more worried about its earthing than its latch.

oh m'lud I got a splinter on my plunge finger and its Godfrey's fault for not mylaring it - I demand monies!

I wouldn't bet on winning that if there was a backup safety feature that wasn't enabled. It's not worth chancing either way. You can have all the money in the world and lose the lot in some silly litigation. Happens all the time.

total nonsense.

Give me 5 examples of such litigation!

Neil.

  • Dred Scott v. Sandford (1857) ...
  • Schenck v. United States (1919) ...
  • Brown v. Board of Education (1954) ...
  • Gideon v. Wainwright (1963) ...
  • Miranda v. Arizona (1966) ...
  • Tinker v. Des Moines (1969) ...
  • Roe v. Wade (1973) ...
  • Regents of the University of California v. Bakke(1978)

Let me put it this way; as part of my work I have a lot of RIF airsoft guns and theatrical prop weapons for motion capture use. Despite not being real firearms or ever likely to be in public I still have £10,000,000 public liability insurance and keep them in a gun safe. Not worth chancing it. And I don't understand why you wouldn't just screw the backbox down?

none of them are personal injury.

are you comparing the chance of an injury from guns to pinball machines?!:rofl:

sorry but _no_ court will rule on personal injury claim where some ****wit undid the clasp.

Neil.

IT HAS FINALLY DAWNED ON ME! I KNOW THE SECRET OF THE PINBALL SHORTAGES!!!!!

Its because we've been invaded by personal injury lawyers!! they are buying up all the pins from their takings from pinjuries!

As stated, not real guns. Could blind you potentially. Not sure how many people have been killed by airsoft guns. Life changing injury unlikely but possible. Hence the public liability insurance. Yes I'm comparing the two.

More time has been spent debating the potential liability of a hypertheical case of injury than it would have taken to drop bolts in 100 games and have it be 100% that such a thing would never happen......

my wife Mandy is going to bring a defibrillator, an eppy pen, a first aid kit, a lollipop and a priest to pinfest incase there are any injuries during stall ball.

When autistic people in denial debate.

I didn't know you'd had a diagnosis Rob? I apologise for ripping the **** out of your stupidity.

They could definitely blind you.

We went during the hot weather and it was unbearable with masks etc. One poor fella decided to ditch the mask and just use his shades as eye protection.

He got shot in the mouth and it broke his front tooth off.

Great fun though. The other team turned up all kitted out with sniper rifles, side arms and all sorts.

For the record there was no legal repercussions because it was in Essex and the bloke who lost his tooth said "My fault, I'm a silly c#$@ for taking off the mask, I might get the dentist to whack a bit of gold in there. Bosh." 🤣

Yeah they're pretty hardcore. I have the MG-42 that fires 2000 rpm. Never actually fired it yet. Most of them are full metal PTS Syndicate gas blowback training spec weapons. Bunch of swords as well. Not all businesses involve cupcakes.

I thought the limit was 500rpm for single shot?

Beware burglars😂🩸
I have a Negan barbed wire baseball bat for display purposes obviously, it’s was a topper but fell off too many times and 5hit the life out of me hitting the glass!

After all this discussion if I was you Neil I'd be very paranoid about someone unlatching a backbox or two at the club just to prove a point.

Unless daily inspection of the backbox latches is part of your routine of course? Might just be easier to put a bloody wingnut in to save that hassle though.
