Of all the machines I've owned this one feels like a keeper, but it's this one or BSD unfortunately. We had an offer accepted on a house yesterday and while it could go in the garage or conservatory I don't think those are ideal locations for it. It's recently had new armoured side rails to cover up the flipper button wear that TSPP is notorious for, and also a new Colour DMD (Evo from German Gaming Supplies). The machine itself is in very good condition overall. Playfield looks excellent and no broken plastics or anything to note. The cabinet artwork is undamaged. I'm not sure if it's faded as they looked faded when new. Not my favourite cabinet artwork to be honest but the rest of the game more than makes up for it. It still has the batteries on the board which makes me wince, that was going to be my next job to sort out. I don't play them enough to even scratch the extraordinarily deep ruleset on TSPP. Price is £4400. Buyer to collect or send Martin who is very familiar and adept at dragging machines up the stairs from my basement.

^^^Thats interesting, I didn’t know HLD snapped up pins from eBay. Hopefully you got what you wanted price wise 👍
 
So we are back to this perennial situation: the seller got he wanted for it but the buyer is now trying to flog it for a hefty profit. And I have heard the view many times that it is ok as the seller got what he wanted. But i still have an uneasy feeling about it. Dont know why.
It is no different to selling your car to a dealer and seeing it back on the forecourt with a big markup. But i still can't get used to it. Must be me.

Totally agree. It’s interesting because when I decided to buy my first pin the first place I went was google (obviously). Naturally that takes you to HLD but after a few phone calls and some more research it became obvious that the community was the best place to source a machine. I had registered my interest for a Simpsons PP with HLD hence their call to me.

I don’t have a problem with the principle of them snapping up private pins and selling them on, I just think that the markup is completely unreasonable!

I can't even go to their website, their completely plucked from the air RRP's on 25 year old machines makes my blood boil.

Well at least I can stop thinking about it now! Pin space is full so it would have been a while before I wanted it, and I'm having a blast playing the virtual version.

Disappointing to see it go from the pool of Pins on here but no problem with it going to HLD, it's a free market and anyone on here could have bought it if they paid the asking price.

There will be other Simpsons that come up in future if it's still one I'm interested in.

You cannot expect the seller to hang on to it when it needs to be shifted.
HLD are a business at the end of the day, they have overheads so I guess you cannot expect the pricing to be the same.

Yeah they do a full service check and 12 month warranty which has to be worth something on an expensive machine with delicate parts and a solid ball flying at high speed!

I’ve heard that those checks arent worth a penny and their after sales ‘care’ is pretty lacking too

Yeah sorry guys. As I said on the eBay thread, there was an invite only £1 sellers fees that came up. I didn't get the invite but my wife did. It ended on the Monday and since nobody here expressed any interest in buying it on the Sunday or Monday I listed it on her account to avoid missing the £1 fees. It sold within the hour, probably about 40mins after listing it. I then got an email from the buyer explaining that he was buying it on behalf of HLD. To be honest I was very glad about that as it meant I would have a zero hassle sale without being messed around by some random dude who'd clicked buy it now after a few too many beers. HLD are great to sell to, but obviously for pricing reasons not so great to buy from. It is a shame that it's gone out of the community but I'm not going to pass up an easy sale for the sake of making any kind of point. Especially when I'm in the middle of a house move and need it gone and £4400 in my bank account pronto. They did make nearly 6000 of them so I'm sure another will be along soon. Like buses.

I cant vouch for HLD but I did buy my first pin from Liberty games, and they were pretty good on after sale service. they got someone round to fix an opto issue no problem. It still cost me £1,500 over the going rate though to buy the pin though!!!! (In the days before I discovered pinballinfo.com of course)
 
Sorry i didn't intend to make you feel bad about the sale.
For the first time i have looked at their website and i have read their story. It makes interesting reading and i feel more sympathetic towards them. Pinball is probably a fairly small part of their business anyway.
Bottom line: it was offered here and nobody bought it.

Absolutely no reason to apologise, I think anyone would have done the same, the shame is that nobody in the community was in a position to buy it but you can’t be expected to have that kind of cash tied up in something until a ‘good’ buyer emerges!!
 
I've actually been down to their showrooms, they are a very accommodating bunch.
Some of their sales guys don't know much about the pins, you will find this out when you quiz them.... i guess only their tech guys do.
Their 2nd hand prices on pins are a bit extreme but their NIB prices aren't too far away with warranty.

As I've said before, they sold me a duffer on a NIB arcade machine worth nearly 4k but they sorted it with a sparkling new one.
Anyone that's not visited who is in the area should pop in, at the very least you can have a go on their Limited Edition Alien, if they still have it :)

I'm not sure how you know this, there are definitely people who have bought from HLD and then become members here, it's not ideal that they charge over the top prices but they do offer some sort of warranty at least and there are plenty of people who've been ripped off by shady eBay sellers. Over the years, I've seen plenty of eBay horror stories that have been bought for well over the odds. On the basis you have used, surely equally pins that are sold on eBay can be gone from the community for good? Fact is the machine was offered here and no one bought it.

I also don't get the hate for HLD, they're a business and they do promote pinball which may in fact bring people in. I assume whatever we all do for jobs/business, we should get an equal amount of hate for taking things and making money with them??
 
Didn't they host the league too at their showroom - if correct, kudos to them :thumbs:
 
When I first became interested in pinball, TSPP was settled on as a machine the Mrs would be happy with. I didn't know about this place and also ended up at HLD. I phoned to inquire about a TSPP they were advertising, but it transpired they didn't actually have one in stock, but would soon and would contact me (I guess this is a marketing ploy they often use).

In the meantime I found this site, got myself a nice TSPP and realised I had dodged a bullet.

Fast forward a year or so, get an email from HLD asking if I still want a TSPP. No, I'd already found one.

Fast forward to now, I sold the TSPP (the one in this thread) which is then sold on to HLD.

I get another email from them asking if I want to buy it ! Nope, turns out I actually sold you one instead, indirectly. How ironic!
 
Yeah, the only thing I can deduce is that they only have the machines that say Enquire for Price. Your name is still in the high scores on that one.
